Snowstorm: I'm Super Rich in the Apocalypse

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: People Become More and More Panicked

Zhuang Jie, assured by Lu Ruisheng's concern, told him he would rent a place as soon as possible and then said goodbye and hung up the phone.

Although Zhuang Jie noticed some things were different from his previous life, he had been reborn after all. Some butterfly effects were possible, and having the upper hand now was all that mattered.

He wasn't worried about the warehouse, because the snow in the outskirts hadn't been cleared, and no one could get there. The supplies were extremely secure, although some might have frozen, which was a bit of a pity.

Since he couldn't go to Lu Ruisheng's house, he really needed to rent a place before the network went down. He planned to deceive Lu Ruisheng and Gu Pan into coming over before the outage, knock them out, seize the pendant, and then kill them. With the internet and power gone, everything would descend into chaos.

In his previous life, the apocalypse had just started two months before he got the pendant, and he hadn't dared to kill anyone then. This lifetime, he intended to eliminate any future threats as soon as he had the item.

After hanging up the phone, Lu Ruisheng also discussed Zhuang Jie's situation with Gu Pan.

For now, knowing the specific location of Zhuang Jie's place was enough to avoid complications in seeking revenge later, as finding people without communication was truly a hassle.

Originally, they had thought about letting Zhuang Jie and his wife suffer longer during the apocalypse before dying.

However, weighing the pros and cons, they felt keeping them alive was a risk. What if they revealed information about the Space? So, it was decided—order would be eliminated first for safety.

After discussing this tense issue, Gu Pan pulled out two cups of coffee from the Space, drinking and switching the conversation to other topics.

Fortunately, they also bought milk tea, coffee, and a lot of desserts earlier, and enjoying some sweets occasionally helped them relax.

That evening, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng checked some information online before washing up and preparing to sleep.

However, before bed, the building manager at Unit 401 announced to all residents: "Starting tomorrow, power will be limited. Electricity will only be supplied from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The rest of the time, there will be no power."

This timing made sense, as they could use electric heating mattresses at night.

Gu Pan sat up and asked Lu Ruisheng, "Did we fully charge all those high-capacity portable power sources we have in the Space? I really don't want to go through days without power."

Lu Ruisheng also sat up, "Don't worry, everything has been prepared. Stop worrying and go to sleep early, we've got an early start tomorrow."

Gu Pan lay down, cuddling into Lu Ruisheng's arms, "Despite our many misfortunes, our greatest luck is having each other."

Lu Ruisheng, embracing Gu Pan, said, "I used to complain about fate, but since meeting you, I haven't complained."

With that, he kissed Gu Pan's lips.

In a breathless moment, Gu Pan bit Lu Ruisheng's shoulder, "Who said we need to wake up early tomorrow, that we had to sleep early tonight?"

Lu Ruisheng slightly furrowed his brow from the bite, "You're that energetic? Then tonight, you definitely need a good workout." He then turned off the bedside lamp.

The temperature in the room gradually rose, and the steam on the windows told of the intensity between them.

The next morning, Lu Ruisheng and Gu Pan were out by 4 a.m., but they returned after just half an hour. The line had already stretched to midway to the supermarket they planned to visit, making it pointless to join. Some who hadn't returned were probably queuing for tomorrow, swapping with family members to continue in line the next day.

As Lu Ruisheng and Gu Pan had already gotten what they needed the day before, there was no need for them to struggle that much.

Of course, the community group was exploding today, everyone discussing the scarcity of supplies and asking the building manager what to do.

Unit 401 manager replied, "I understand everyone's feelings, but I didn't get anything either. We have to figure it out ourselves, ask if relatives or friends have some reserves. We can only get through this disaster by working together and helping each other to achieve the final victory."

Watching these magnificent words, Gu Pan shook her head and said to Lu Ruisheng, "Times are not like they were a few days ago, no one would easily give away food now."

Lu Ruisheng said, "Indeed, queuing up outside at minus sixty degrees overnight, food has become a matter of life, it's no longer about money."

"Tomorrow is the last day to buy food, and once everyone realizes they can no longer purchase food, panic will begin, followed by power outages and internet blackouts, which will deepen people's fears."

"Although I am mentally prepared for everything, talking about it still makes me somewhat nervous."

"Coming back with three years of memories and facing this again, I also find it hard to accept."

While they spoke, a loud argument erupted in the building's corridor, though not on their floor, probably a few floors below, related likely to the matter of acquiring food, since other essential resources had not yet shown significant scarcity.

At that moment, Gu Pan's phone rang, and she saw it was Tian Zhenzhen calling and quickly picked up, "Zhenzhen, have you made it home?"

Tian Zhenzhen replied, "Just got home, just letting you know I'm safe."

Gu Pan shook her head, "Did you bring everything back?"

"I did, my dad and brother used a sledge made from our home's chair to pull all my stuff back."

"That's good, I've heard the cold wave will last for a while, you should save your supplies and definitely not give them away."

"I know, my dad and brother got food early yesterday morning, plus what you gave me, we should be able to last another month or so, by then the cold wave might have passed."

Gu Pan couldn't tell Tian Zhenzhen that the cold wave wouldn't pass so quickly and that the end of the cold wave doesn't mean the end of the disaster, she could only say, "Anyway, we should always be as prepared as possible for anything."

"You shouldn't just worry about me, how are you and President Lu doing? With the power rationing, I hope you're not freezing."

"We're not, don't worry, you know how we used to love barbecuing? We still have charcoal and a stove at home."

"Panpan, if you use charcoal indoors, make sure to watch out for carbon monoxide poisoning, always open a window when the stove is lit, remember?" Tian Zhenzhen seriously cautioned Gu Pan.

Gu Pan laughed and said, "I know, don't worry, we'll both take good care of ourselves."

Tian Zhenzhen responded, "Okay, then I won't say much more, if anything comes up, let's keep in touch by phone."

Gu Pan said goodbye to Tian Zhenzhen and hung up the phone.

No sooner had she put down the phone than someone knocked at the door.

Lu Ruisheng cautiously went to the door and peered through the peephole, whispering to Gu Pan, "A woman, don't recognize her."

Gu Pan thought for a moment and said, "I'll open it."

Under current circumstances, it would be odd not to answer the door when someone knocked, but since it was a woman, it was easier for her to handle it herself.

Gu Pan went over and opened the door, asking, "Who are you looking for?"

The person outside was a heavily bundled-up girl wearing a thick coat, identifiable as a girl by her baby pink hat.

With a very soft voice tinted with slight embarrassment, the girl said to Gu Pan, "Sister, I was wondering if I could borrow some sanitary pads."
