Chapter 89: Chapter 77.2: The Ordinary High School Student
But what Ichigo hadn't expected was that Chu Yang easily handled Higashizawa, who didn't seem like an easy guy to deal with. This piqued Ichigo's curiosity about Chu Yang.
Not one to hold back his thoughts, Ichigo asked, "When did you start seeing souls?"
"Since I was a kid," Chu Yang casually replied. After all, his family was gone, and no one else could verify his story.
Ichigo nodded silently. Chu Yang's situation seemed similar to his own.
"Do you think that guy will actually pay up?"
Chu Yang stopped and looked back at him.
"I mean," Ichigo explained, "construction company bosses usually have ties to local gangs. After what you did to him today, he's probably furious. He might retaliate tomorrow, maybe even against your family."
"I have no family for him to target." Chu Yang chuckled, his tone carrying deeper meaning. "People who get revenge usually didn't go far enough the first time. If you make them truly afraid, where would they find the courage to strike back?"
With that, Chu Yang resumed walking.
Ichigo stood in place for a moment, pondering, then quietly followed behind.
"That old guy at the school gate didn't seem quite right. I always avoided him, but today he was different. I asked him out of curiosity, and he said…"
Ichigo's expression turned odd as he continued, "He said you slapped him a few times, and it snapped him out of it."
"Can you physically touch souls?"
At this point, they were just leaving the park. Chu Yang didn't answer the question and kept walking toward home.
"That's all for today's Q&A session!"
Hearing Chu Yang's remark, Ichigo paused for a moment.
He turned and walked off in another direction.
The next day after school, the two found themselves, by coincidence, near Honkawa Yosuke's home again.
"This is quite the coincidence."
"It's more than a coincidence. Are you stalking me?"
"Idiot. Don't make jokes like that, it's not funny at all."
Chu Yang and Ichigo bantered as they approached a house with a nameplate reading "Honkawa." Clearly, they were both here to confirm whether Honkawa Yosuke's family had received the compensation.
"Ring the doorbell. Why are you staring at me? Didn't your hands grow properly?"
"This is your business, shouldn't you be the one ringing?"
"Then why did you come along? Are you a stalker?"
"Did you get a license to be so sharp-tongued? Your mouth is infuriating!"
"Thank you for the compliment!"
Ichigo's temple throbbed with frustration.
After taking a few deep breaths, he decided not to argue with Chu Yang and pressed the doorbell.
Honkawa's wife cautiously opened the door, but seeing two students, her expression relaxed.
Ichigo quickly organized his thoughts and explained that he was a student Honkawa had once helped, here to visit.
The conversation flowed, and after some polite exchanges, Chu Yang learned that Higashizawa had delivered the compensation last night.
The compensation was several times higher than the court's ruling, a clear sign that Higashizawa feared Chu Yang might seek revenge.
Shortly after, the two returned to a road near the school, preparing to inform Honkawa Yosuke of the news.
Unexpectedly, Honkawa wasn't there. They waited until nightfall, but he never showed up.
"Maybe he already knew about it and has moved on peacefully," Ichigo suggested, stretching and yawning as his stomach growled. Unable to endure any longer, he decided to head home.
Standing on the empty road, Chu Yang frowned. He agreed with Ichigo's logic, but he had a strong feeling that Honkawa hadn't left.
Recalling how Honkawa had been in a dazed state, even showing signs of aggression, Chu Yang grew increasingly convinced that something was wrong.
The construction company!
A thought flashed in Chu Yang's mind.
If Honkawa didn't know Higashizawa had already delivered the compensation, he'd surely go looking for Higashizawa.
With that, Chu Yang rushed toward the construction company.
He wasn't concerned about Higashizawa dying.
He was only worried that if Honkawa committed murder, he might completely lose his reason and emotions, never to return.
Chu Yang's sudden sprint startled Ichigo. By the time Ichigo realized what was happening, Chu Yang was already far ahead. Seeing Chu Yang's urgency, Ichigo instinctively sensed that something bad was happening.
"Where are you going? Wait for me!" Ichigo slung his bag over his shoulder and sprinted after him, but no matter how hard he ran, the distance between them only grew.
"This is insane!?" Ichigo was shocked. He had always excelled at both academics and athletics, never losing, yet this was his first time being left behind.
After running a while longer, Chu Yang's figure completely vanished from Ichigo's sight. Forced to stop, Ichigo stood there, drenched in sweat and panting heavily. "How is he so fast? Is he even human? He's like a monster!"
"This direction… wasn't this where the park was yesterday? No, it's the construction company!" Ichigo suddenly connected the dots, and without pausing, he gritted his teeth and charged forward.
"Uncle Yosuke, please don't do anything foolish!"
To reach the construction company faster, Chu Yang took a direct route, cutting through dark alleys and narrow old neighborhoods. There were few people around, and with the old streetlights, even if he leaped from roof to roof, it wouldn't attract attention.
It was like experiencing a day in the life of "Ninja Chu Yang."
What Chu Yang didn't know was…
Ichigo had somehow managed to catch up, and just in time to see Chu Yang leap onto a roof and vanish.
"What is he doing? A ninja? What the…?" Ichigo was stunned, involuntarily swearing.
When Chu Yang leaped down from the rooftop, he had arrived in front of the construction company, separated only by a road.
The area was eerily quiet. Aside from the sound of the cold wind, there wasn't even a cat's meow. The silence was unnerving, even for the night.
Observation Haki could sense the presence of living beings, but Chu Yang's current level didn't allow him to sense pure souls.
As for Roger's ability to "hear the voice of all things," Chu Yang wasn't sure, as his Observation Haki hadn't reached that level.
Following his intuition, Chu Yang walked toward the construction company, convinced that Honkawa Yosuke was there.
But the worst had already happened...
As Chu Yang approached the company, every window in the building shattered simultaneously, sending shards of glass raining down on him.
Shards of glass fell onto Chu Yang's body, clinking softly as they landed. His entire body was already covered with Armament Haki, so he was unharmed.
As the glass shattered, Chu Yang clearly heard the monster's roar, causing his heart to sink.
He stomped heavily on the ground, leaping up to the second floor of the construction company building. He didn't see Honkawa Yosuke, only a masked monster with a hollow in its chest, holding Higashizawa high in the air. Honkawa Yosuke had turned into a Hollow.
"Help… help me…" Higashizawa had no idea what was happening, only repeatedly shouting for help in a faint voice, likely from severe injuries.
"Stop yelling!" Chu Yang cursed, charging straight toward the Hollowed Honkawa Yosuke and knocking him away with brute force.
Higashizawa fell to the ground with a heavy thud, blood filling his mouth.
Chu Yang glanced at him coldly before walking away indifferently. This guy deserved to die, but not at the hands of Honkawa Yosuke.
Spiritual beings were enemies Chu Yang had never encountered before. He wasn't sure how much damage his Haki could do to them. His concern wasn't about failing to break their defense but rather that a single punch might kill Honkawa Yosuke outright.
Chu Yang's fists weren't Zanpakutō, lacking the ability to purify Hollows and send them to the afterlife. If he killed a Hollow, they were truly dead.
Thus, Chu Yang had to rely on his physical skills to restrain Honkawa Yosuke while waiting for a reaction from the Shinigami.
Whenever a Hollow appears in the human world, the Soul Society immediately gets informed, so there was no need to worry that the Shinigami wouldn't show up.
Unless...
A more powerful Hollow had appeared nearby at the same time.
Before the Shinigami arrived, Chu Yang had to prevent Honkawa Yosuke from rampaging and hurting innocent people. He kept an eye on the movements of the living with Observation Haki while luring Honkawa Yosuke to a less populated area.
Fishman Karate had several grappling and restraining techniques, which were perfect for this situation.
The Hollowed Honkawa Yosuke was enormous, and even his casual attacks caused terrifying large-scale destruction, striking fear into those around.
Honkawa Yosuke had just become a Hollow, yet he was already this formidable. It was hard to imagine the strength of the higher-class Menos Grande.
Elsewhere, Kurosaki Ichigo arrived near the construction company.
Whether from the exertion or the sight of the surrounding devastation, Kurosaki Ichigo was trembling slightly.
"What on earth happened here?"
Having interacted with numerous spirits over his 15 years, it was still his first time seeing something like this.
"Help…"
A weak cry for help came from the rubble.
Kurosaki Ichigo followed the voice and found Higashizawa buried under a pile of debris.
He quickly pulled him out, placing him by the roadside and calling for an ambulance.
"Hey, have you seen anyone else in a school uniform like mine?"
Hearing Kurosaki Ichigo's question, the injured Higashizawa barely opened his eyes, glancing at Ichigo's uniform before his face turned pale.
Damn, he's from the same school as that bringer of bad luck?
Could he also be some kind of grim reaper?
Higashizawa pointed in the direction where Chu Yang and Honkawa Yosuke had disappeared, his voice surprisingly loud, "He went that way!"
"Thanks! I've already called an ambulance for you. Stay here and don't move."
Kurosaki Ichigo stood up and ran off, reminding him as he went, "Don't move, okay!"
Higashizawa nodded hurriedly, but after Kurosaki Ichigo left, he still struggled to crawl to the other side of the road.
"You must be joking! Stay still? You and that guy are in cahoots, planning to rob and kill me. I'm not falling for it!"
