The children found that experience fun, so they all asked her to do it again, so that repeated a few times before Mira was finally able to reach the toilet and sit at peace.

「They really waste no time to get excited about everything.」

That was probably the first time she had seen so much action so soon after waking up, but she could not stop a smile forming on her lips from it. Once she took care of her business in the toilet, she continued reading books for the children to pass time until breakfast. Overall, it was a peaceful morning.

「Now this is a problem…」

After breakfast, the children would all go study. At the same time, it meant Mira’s time there was over.

Mira’s mission had been completed when all the children arrived safely to Arkite. Her plans were to go see Solomon as he had requested the night before, and then head to see Mariana in the Tower of Summoning.

In other words, she would no longer be able to watch over the children, especially the younger ones. Realizing that, when she said, 「Take care,」 all of the younger children broke into tears, clinging onto her and refusing to let her leave.

「I’ll drop by to visit sometime, so just, umm…」

The children continued to plead amidst tears, and Mira tried to hug each one of them and pat their heads to reassure them. But they had all gotten awfully attached to her in the short time they were together, and still refused to let her go. She also could not bring herself to outright push them away, so she just stood there unsure of what to do.

「Everyone, you have to understand that Mira has a loooot of work to do, that’s why she has to go now. But don’t worry, she’ll come back when she can. So just say goodbye and wait until then, okay?」

After being unable to just stand and watch, or maybe because she thought it was the right timing, Artesia stepped forward. Hearing her, the children finally fell silent for a moment, before one of them slowly asked, 「You’ll really come back?」

They all tried to hold back their sadness as they hoped for her return. Faced with the pure and innocent voices of so many children, no person would be able to deny their request.

「Yes, I’ll come back, and with a big pile of presents! So just be good until then!」

As Mira hugged the children again, even she was moved to tears, and filled with emotions as she made them that promise.

Some time after leaving, she turned around and saw that the children were still at the orphanage’s entrance, waving at her, so she waved back. The two Wisemen who had returned to Arkite, Artesia and Lastrada, were also there.

(Make sure you raise them right. Children really are nice though.)

Directly dealing with them was exhausting, but also reinvigorating in a strange way. It was similar to the fulfilling reassurance that came from completing a mission. As she mused over those thoughts, she turned around and waved again, then continued, before looking back once more. That repeated many times until the children were out of sight.

This time, it was only Mira visiting Solomon’s office, and she lined all the souvenirs she bought on the table, since she did not have a chance to hand them over the previous day.

「Woah, this is so cool. I didn’t know they were selling things like this.」

Until Haxthausen, most of what she bought were regional sweets from the cities she visited. But just as Mira expected, what Solomon was the most interested in was the gas mask, camouflage mantle and night vision goggles she had bought from Haxthausen’s Dinowal Store.

「And since they’re meant to be used by adventurers, they were very effective too.」

Mira took out her own set and put it on, instantly transforming into a special forces member.

As Solomon’s nerdiness over military gear took over, he also quickly wore all of it and went to check a mirror, before laughing happily while saying, 「It looks so cool!」

That led to the two of them playing around with the gear for quite some time.

「Now, there’s still that special souvenir I told you about before. Did you prepare a place for it?」 Moving things along, but still wearing the gear, Mira asked the more important question.

「Of course.」

Solomon then explained that he had arranged for it the day after Mira had called about it. The two of them left the office and went to that place, which was a huge storage room below the castle. It was completely empty too, just as Mira had requested.

「Hmm… There should be enough room here.」

Mira looked around the room, and then recalled something else that she figured was more important and took it out from her Item Box.

「First off, you probably should have this.」

She gave him a black metallic plate, and a tattered diary. Those were the things she had obtained in the last floor of the Ancient Underground City, the latter found amongst the rubble of Machina Guardian, and the former given to her by a humanoid construct that crawled out of the rubble.

「Ohh, so this is what you told me about too… Hmm, I see, this does look mysterious…」

The black metallic plate was inscribed with strange glyphs, which did not seem to make any sense at first sight. The diary also provided more questions than answers in its current state. But the word ‘Japan’ was very clearly written on it, so there was a huge mystery lurking behind those burnt pages, which likely could reveal an important truth for them.

It could even lead to decoding the secret behind the world they were in.

「I’ll send this over to the Rising Sun Committee when I get the chance. They’re the specialists on these things.」

Saying that, Solomon carefully stored the metallic plate and diary in his Item Box. With that done, he looked at Mira again, his eyes full of expectation. He was sure that she had more to show from Machina Guardian.

「Watch and be amazed.」

Knowing what Solomon was thinking, Mira began taking out the other things from her Item Box. She took out piece after piece, creating a huge pile of metallic chunks. It was all the usable parts from the broken down Machina Guardian.

They were mostly composed of a mysterious alloy different from steel or mithril. Just being able to forge and craft them would require specialized knowledge and abilities, so neither of them knew exactly what they could be used for.

All they knew was that Machina Guardian had been built with them, so once they figured out how to use it, it would greatly empower Arkite.

「Looking at all of it like this is really something else…」

It had taken Mira half an hour just to get it all out from her Item Box. When she was done, they both looked at the large pile. At first sight it just looked like scrap, but many of the chunks still had the inner mechanisms preserved, so they held even more value for those who could understand those.

「This is definitely worth studying.」

Just using it as metallic material would be a waste, according to Solomon, and the twinkle on his eyes showed just how excited he was about the souvenir Mira had brought for him.

「I went through the trouble of bringing it all to you, so make sure to put it to good use.」

Mira puffed her chest as she said that, and Solomon said, 「Of course,」 before mentioning it would probably be best if he also let the Rising Sun Committee do the research on that. But he would keep anything that was pure metal without any mechanical parts.
