Chapter 30: Phoenix surprise
After some days of SCP-9743 leaving his containment chamber and entering his personal void, he comes back, grabs the four pointed star, and instantly starts breaking through, making his way to where he remembers, was SCP-914.
After a moment of getting everything and everyone of his way without any care, he manages to reach SCP-914, and remains analyzing it momentarily, before places the four pointed star inside the left chamber of SCP-914.
When SCP-9743 starts thinking in what setting should be selected, suddenly, he feels hands moving around him, embracing him with a warm hug. He turns around slightly, and see is SCP-105, so he instantly is mixed between sadness and at the same time anger.
He looks back, to see who's behind SCP-105, and sees Dr. Sophia Adler, some guards, and a member of O5 council.
SCP-9743: "What?! Another her from other world? Stop trying my patience in not erasing you, humans."
SCP-105 is surprised and worried, as for her, SCP-9743 behavior is from a sudden, completely different from how he was.
Dr. Adler: "She's the one with who you were, is not from other universe or world."
SCP-9743: "Oh, really?~ Then how is here alive?"
Dr. Sophia Adler: "... It was needed SCP-2000 to bring back SCP-105."
SCP-9743: "... I knew you humans played and toyed with the safety, security, health, and lives of others, but bringing people like this?... This is just too much, even for you... How much you want to keep reminding me how she died? How much you really want me to keep remembering that, huh?!"
SCP-105 tried to assist, in a try to calm SCP-9743 down, but he ignored her completely, not looking at her.
SCP-105: "What is wrong? What made you be like this?"
SCP-9743: "... Do you really wanna know? Fine then. This useless humans, having under the same place, from non-lethal stuff, to the most dangerous ones, decided to have all of that very closely, and when suddenly, those stuff got out of their control, I had to handle once again the reptile by myself, and in a moment, I found you with injuries and purple marks, but when I was healing you, BOM! I see a skeleton rip and tear apart your body and flesh completely centimeters in front of me, from inside of you to outside... Thy tried to buy me bringing another you from another world, and now... By bringing you back from death..."
SCP-9743 turns around and just focuses on SCP-914, while SCP-105 processes and imagines what SCP-9743 just told her.
After a moment, SCP-9743 selects the 'Fine' setting, and SCP-914 starts the process. After a short moment, once SCP-914 finishes, the four pointed yellow start appears more brighter than ever, shining a lifelike yellow golden light.
SCP-9743 moves closer and grabs the star, but then, turns around as SCP-105 want SCP-9743 as how was, as for her, a moment ago, as for her was moments ago, but only for her, as she was brought from moments later of both have finished an interaction of being together, before the breach.
SCP-105: "Can you... Be like a moment ago? I still don't know what happened, but... I want you to be how you were just a moment ago..."
SCP-9743: "... For you was a moment... For me was weeks and weeks... Since the last time we've spent that moment together."
SCP-105: "We can continue being together. I can use my camera and continue traveling together to other places for more picnics, and dates."
SCP-9743: "... Yeah, but... What many atrocities have to happen, until they really start properly taking care as how it has to be?... How can I look at you... And not remember how you were instantly teared apart into pieces and a pool of blood?..."
SCP-105 remains silent for a moment, but doesn't stop trying.
SCP-105: "What if... Is possible for you to forget? Maybe there is something that can make you forget that happened."
SCP-9743: "... And what makes me know that something similar wont happen?... What makes me know that for sure, I won't have to see something similar?... What if I don't forget, despite whatever strange thing this clowns inside this white circus could have?..."
SCP-105: "... I don't know, but if you love me, you have to risk. If I really died, they did bring me back for you... They're trying..."
SCP-9743: "... What they're trying, is to buy me... Using you as currency. Like if you're buying something at a store..."
Suddenly, the glow of the four point star intensifies as continues floating up of SCP-9743's hands, and then, everything around them, starts trembling and shaking, until what could be the fabric of reality shatters, and only eternal white is the only remaining around them, as if they're floating somewhere in the nowhere.
The tremors begin, subtle at first, but quickly escalate. SCP-105 instinctively clutches onto SCP-9743, her face a mixture of worry and confusion. The walls of SCP-914's containment chamber warp and ripple, as though reality itself is bending under the strain of the star's energy.
SCP-105: "W-where are we?... What just happened?"
SCP-9743: "... A void of creation... Like a map without trace to being drawn for be discovered..."
SCP-105: "Can you... Make everything go back as how it was?"
SCP-9743: "... I don't want taking risks..."
SCP-105: "I'll be at your side, all the time, I promise! Just... Make everything back to normal."
SCP-9743: "... I let you choice... Or make everything back to normal, in exchange for me taking that upgrade machine to my void, and we let them be with their circus of killers and destroyers; or erase everything, or maybe reset it, and make sure no SCPs can exist, neither the Foundation itself, and we continue in a city, more normal. I don't want anything with this buffoons, honestly."
SCP-105: "If you erase everything, all the memories and the good things will also get erased... And if you reset everything... Maybe we lose each other, everything will affected?"
SCP-9743: "... I don't want this buffoons to exist, with their weird circus full of danger... But if I put it back together, it will just continue ahead... And you're making me doubt of even if is a good idea Resetting for cleaning..."
SCP-105: "But every option is the ending for something, or everything! Can we not go back and work together? Maybe... You can use the star to not remember the breach, and... I'm sure they'll be much cautious now."
SCP-9743 turned to look at the O5 council member, and then glitched teleporting in front of it, still, with his expression the same neutral serious of indifference.
SCP-9743: "... If I put everything back together, I want to own the upgrade machine, and be in a better position or rank, or whatever you have, not being inside a small cell room, as despite how much can be decorated, is still a cell for prisoners."
O5-4: "... You receive the benefit of owning SCP-914 under some conditions, as you will use it freely, but it will remain where it is. And your position will be promoted under O5 Council, so you will have a much better place for yourself, instead of any cell or chamber of containment, but with restrictions."
SCP-9743: "... Restrictions, huh? No, Make it freely as I want. I don't want be seen as item or object, make my promotion the same rank as that council you said."
O5-4: "I can't do that. I can offer you a Keycard to can go freely around the facility."
SCP-9743: "... Freely usage of the upgrade machine, a personal Keycard to go wherever I want, changes to make sure those dangerous stuff are being properly under control, her to be with me and neither used as item and only participate if accepts herself, and better clothes that show us we're not any SCP or any item or anyone that can be confused with."
O5-4: "... You really make this difficult... Alright, I'll grant you that, but only if you accept to receive each communication given to you by any member of the O5 council, assist to help in the Sites of the Foundation, and neutralize any SCP when told and only first try to retain the SCPs unless the situation goes out of hand and then you have to neutralize the danger, continue helping in experiments for better understanding and knowledge, and giving me that book you offered weeks ago to know all the anomalous abilities you have, and the star to be under the O5 council's property."
SCP-9743: "... You're making it sound as more favorable for you..." Pauses for a moment to turn and look at SCP-105 for a moment, then back at the O5 member. "Deal."
SCP-9743 then offers a handshake, and the O5 member hesitates for a short moment, but accepts the handshake, and both agree. Then, the star starts glowing with intensity, as slowly, everything starts shaking and trembling slightly, and everything starts becoming distorted.
SCP-9743: "Everything will put back before what happened, I'm going to erase all memory and place everything to the moments before what happened, except for you and those other members. Make sure it doesn't happen again, or next time, my determination will make me remember more probably, and then I will not be friendly anymore, and I'll directly erase the entire planet, to make sure... Each SCP is dealt with..."
O5-4: "... Understood."
Then, the glow of the star hides everything, placing everything back together, moving to weeks ago, and going back to exactly mere moments ago the breach.
Inform: The Void, the Deal, and the Reset
From the Perspective of Dr. Sophia Adler and O5-4
Dr. Adler's Perspective: A Plea for Stability
Dr. Sophia Adler watches with growing unease as the situation unfolds. SCP-9743 stands before SCP-914, his expression unreadable but filled with barely restrained fury and grief. The Foundation's gamble—bringing SCP-105 back to life using SCP-2000—hangs precariously in the balance.
SCP-105, who still doesn't fully understand the depths of SCP-9743's anguish, pleads with him, her words like lifelines cast into a storm. But Adler knows the fragile state of SCP-9743's mind. The mention of SCP-105's brutal death only fuels his despair and rage.
Dr. Adler's Thoughts:
This is our last chance to stabilize him. If we fail here, the Foundation may lose everything, and I don't just mean the Site. His wrath would be limitless.
Adler tries to interject, explaining that SCP-105 is the same individual SCP-9743 once cared for, but her words seem to do little to calm him. As the star glows brighter, SCP-9743's grief and mistrust toward humanity manifest into dangerous intensity.
O5-4's Perspective: A Calculated Gamble
O5-4 stands with arms crossed, scrutinizing SCP-9743's every move. Despite the raging emotions in the room, the council member's demeanor remains calm and calculating.
When SCP-9743 glitches and teleports directly in front of O5-4, the council member feels the weight of the moment. The demands are clear and uncompromising:
Free access to SCP-914 A personal Keycard for unrestricted movement Better living conditions and a position equivalent to dignity, not containment Protections and autonomy for SCP-105 Visible attire separating SCP-9743 and SCP-105 from other anomalies
O5-4's response is measured but firm. The conditions offered—free use of SCP-914 but only on-site, a personal Keycard, and accommodations far removed from a containment cell—are paired with additional responsibilities. SCP-9743 must:
Assist the Foundation in Site defense and SCP neutralization when called upon. Receive and act upon communications from the O5 Council. Provide a comprehensive account of his anomalous abilities. Surrender the star as O5 property.
The negotiation becomes tense as SCP-9743 challenges the terms, emphasizing the imbalance of benefits. For a moment, O5-4 wonders if SCP-9743 will simply destroy the star and reset reality on his own terms.
The Final Agreement
After a long silence, SCP-9743 turns to SCP-105, his eyes softening slightly before returning to O5-4.
SCP-9743: "... Deal."
The handshake is brief but carries an immense weight. Adler watches, her breath held, as the star begins to glow with blinding intensity.
The Reset
Dr. Sophia Adler and O5-4 stand as silent witnesses to the unfolding events. SCP-9743, holding the radiant four-pointed star, looms as both their savior and potential destroyer. His words hang heavy in the air:
SCP-9743:
"Everything will put back before what happened, I'm going to erase all memory and place everything to the moments before what happened, except for you and those other members. Make sure it doesn't happen again, or next time, my determination will make me remember more probably, and then I will not be friendly anymore, and I'll directly erase the entire planet, to make sure... Each SCP is dealt with."
This declaration echoes through the chamber, piercing through even the seasoned composure of O5-4. SCP-9743's ultimatum is not just a warning—it is a promise. Should the Foundation falter again, there will be no compromise.
O5-4, fully aware of the gravity of the situation, nods.
O5-4:
"We understand. We will act accordingly. You have our word, SCP-9743."
Dr. Adler, however, feels torn. While she understands SCP-9743's rage and distrust, she also knows the Foundation's flaws. Yet, this gamble offers one last chance to set things right.
The Reset Execution
With those words, the star's light grows in intensity, its radiance enveloping the room. The tremors intensify, and the walls seem to dissolve into cascading fragments of reality. The cameras capturing the scene glitch and fail, leaving only distorted static.
The process is swift but overwhelming. Dr. Adler clutches a nearby console to steady herself, but SCP-105 grabs SCP-9743's hand, her face desperate.
SCP-105:
"If we're resetting... Please, don't forget what we had!"
SCP-9743's neutral expression briefly falters. He looks at her with a mixture of regret and detachment.
SCP-9743:
"Memories are nothing if they repeat the same suffering. You'll forget... but they won't. Let's see if humans can get it right this time."
In the next instant, a flash of golden light blinds everyone. The room, the walls, the very fabric of existence around them vanishes.
The Reset Outcome Timeline Restored: The timeline resets to moments before the breach began, effectively erasing the disastrous chain of events.
Memory Wipe:
Everyone in the facility loses all memories of the breach, except for the O5 Council (as per SCP-9743's condition).
Short Buffer Period: The O5 Council retains memories and is aware of the limited window granted by SCP-9743 to act decisively and restructure their containment protocols.
Dr. Adler's Perspective: A New Start Without Memory
For Dr. Sophia Adler, the reset feels instantaneous. One moment, she's gripping the console; the next, she's sitting in her office reviewing SCP-9743's file, unaware of the events leading to this moment.
She experiences a faint, inexplicable sense of unease—a ghost of emotions tied to memories she no longer possesses. Adler's thoughts wander as she rereads her notes on SCP-9743, feeling as though she's forgotten something critical.
Dr. Adler's Thoughts (Post-Reset):
Something doesn't add up... This file feels... incomplete. Why do I feel like I need to speak with him immediately?
Unbeknownst to her, her perception of SCP-9743 remains heavily influenced by the bond they had shared during the pre-reset timeline. Although Adler does not remember the breach, her instincts push her to approach SCP-9743 with the utmost caution and care.
O5-4's Perspective: The Weight of Memory
For O5-4, the weight of the reset is suffocating. The Council is now the sole group carrying the memory of the breach, the negotiations, and SCP-9743's threat.
As O5-4 reviews the final deal, they recognize the dangerous tightrope the Foundation now walks:
SCP-914 remains freely accessible to SCP-9743, though it is monitored to ensure he doesn't use it excessively for dangerous experimentation. SCP-9743 has received accommodations equal to high-ranking personnel, including a universal Keycard granting him unrestricted access to the facility. SCP-9743 retains autonomy, but with one critical stipulation: he must assist in neutralizing breaches or anomalies deemed uncontrollable by the Foundation.
O5-4's Internal Report (Post-Reset):
The threat remains implicit: If we fail again, SCP-9743 may regain his memories and destroy the planet. The short buffer period is a gift we cannot squander.
Foundation Responsibilities Post-Reset
The reset grants the Foundation an opportunity to prevent the catastrophic events of the erased timeline. The O5 Council immediately implements the following changes:
Enhanced Containment Measures:
SCP-682, SCP-035, SCP-106, and other high-risk entities are relocated to separate sites to minimize the potential for multi-SCP breaches. Site-19's containment protocols are thoroughly reviewed and reinforced, with additional failsafes installed in SCP-914's chamber.
Tightened Autonomy for SCP-9743:
While SCP-9743 is granted freedom within the site, his movements and interactions are discreetly monitored by a specialized MTF unit.
Experimentation on SCP-914:
All experiments with SCP-914 require direct O5 Council approval, ensuring that its use remains controlled despite SCP-9743's access.
Improved Anomaly-Personnel Relations:
SCP-9743's relationship with SCP-105 is used as a model for future strategies in building trust with anomalies. Efforts are made to introduce SCPs to cooperative frameworks that minimize hostility. SCP-9743 Post-Reset
SCP-9743 finds himself back in his upgraded accommodations. The reset has stripped him of the memories of the breach, but faint impressions linger—a vague discomfort he cannot fully explain.
SCP-105, too, approaches SCP-9743 with the same warmth and familiarity, unaware of the turmoil he had endured for her sake. SCP-9743's neutral expression softens slightly as he watches her approach, his trust in her stronger than his distrust of the Foundation... for now.
The Warning's Shadow
O5-4's final words to the Council cement the precarious position the Foundation now occupies:
"We have one chance to keep the reset timeline intact. SCP-9743 has given us a gift and a warning. If we repeat our mistakes, we won't see another reset. We'll see the end."
The reset timeline may have restored balance for the moment, but SCP-9743's "determination" casts a long shadow over the Foundation's future. The O5 Council must now act swiftly and decisively to prevent history from repeating itself—because the stakes are no longer just containment.
The stakes are survival.
