Chapter 5: chapter 5
Kael walked down the familiar cobblestone path toward the entrance of his guild, Shadow Dusk. The small building stood nestled between two larger guilds, its faded sign swinging gently in the wind. Despite its humble appearance, the guild had become his second home—a place where, despite being the weakest member, he had always felt accepted.
As he pushed open the door, the familiar scent of freshly brewed coffee and warm pastries greeted him. The usual noise of chatter filled the room, a mix of laughter and conversations from various members who were either relaxing or gearing up for their next quest. Kael smiled to himself, grateful for the atmosphere.
"Kael! You're back!" a cheerful voice called out.
It was Lia, the guild receptionist, her eyes lighting up when she saw him. She stood behind the counter, her hands busy with a stack of papers, but she never missed the chance to greet him.
"Hey, Lia!" Kael greeted, walking over to the counter. "How's everything today?"
Lia chuckled. "Same old, same old. A few quests came through, but you know the drill. How'd your training go?"
"Same as usual," Kael replied with a shrug, trying to hide the slight disappointment in his tone. His training still felt far from enough, but he wasn't about to let anyone see that. "But I'm still getting stronger, little by little."
"That's the spirit!" Lia grinned. "You'll get there eventually. Just keep at it."
A voice from the back called out, "Is Kael here?"
It was rivan, the guild's unofficial leader and one of the strongest hunters in Shadow Dusk. He had taken Kael under his wing when he first joined, seeing potential even when Kael was just a weak, low-ranking hunter.
"Right here!" Kael waved.
rivan walked over with a cup of coffee in hand, smiling at Kael's presence. "You know, it's good to see you still at it, even though you're the weakest member here."
Kael's face flushed, but he quickly smiled back. "Someone's got to hold the fort while you guys go on the dangerous quests."
Lia snickered. "You're not wrong about that."
As the conversation continued, leah, one of the older members of the guild, entered from the back, looking slightly worn out from her recent hunt. She grinned when she spotted Kael. "Look at you, always working hard, huh?"
Kael grinned sheepishly. "Well, if I don't, I won't get any stronger."
"You've got that right," leah agreed, walking over to the group and pulling out a chair. "But you know, Kael, you don't have to push yourself too hard. You're doing great. Everyone here likes you. We're a team, remember?"
"That's true," Kael said, feeling a warm sense of gratitude. Despite his weakness, he had never felt like an outsider here. The people in Shadow Dusk had always treated him like family, even if they were stronger than him.
rivan took a sip of his coffee and looked at Kael thoughtfully. "We all start somewhere. You just need to be patient and keep honing your skills. The road ahead isn't easy, but we'll be with you."
The conversation shifted to talk about upcoming quests and guild matters, but Kael felt a quiet sense of pride. No matter how weak he was, Shadow Dusk had become his home—a place where he could grow and learn, surrounded by people who believed in him.
And Kael wasn't going to let them down.
they all started to gear up and made their way to the location of the portal
