Chapter 21: Chapter 21
I watched as Pain descended from the sky on a balloon, landing behind Danzo, and, with the words, "You're annoying everyone," slit his throat.
"Why? But I just wanted… love," Shimura rasped.
At that moment, ANBU from Konoha appeared from all sides, swirling as if in a waltz and began to sing…
"Go away, toilet – we don't love you!
Go away, toilet – we don't love you!"
And that was the moment I woke up. Yeah… what weird dreams I have. Looks like my subconscious is "overheating" from all the recent events.
I carefully extricated myself from under Sai and Ai, who had completely buried me under their bodies, managing not to wake them up. I took off my pajamas and changed into pants. I'll put on the top later—right now, it would just get in the way, and if I sweat, what, throw it straight into the laundry? Better to stay like this for now and rinse off later.
With these thoughts, I started my usual training. This time, it lasted much longer and felt much easier—less endurance consumption really made a difference. Because of that, I gained three points in agility. Yeah, it's hard to train agility, but even at the previous stage, Li Shuwen's style was too advanced for me, and now it's clearly even further beyond my level, so it's pushing me to my limits.
After a quick wash, I woke up the girls, and while they were coming to their senses, I went to cook… for five. Yeah, I wasn't expecting that.
At the breakfast table, the atmosphere was strange—I couldn't even define it. Not tense, not depressing, but definitely not happy either. So I just focused on my food and kept quiet.
At the academy, as usual, I stuck with Kiba, who was finally enjoying some peaceful days—apparently, the adults were too busy constantly holding meetings and dividing responsibilities, so training had dropped to a reasonable minimum. The only exception was Shikamaru, who still looked half-dead. But well… that's Shikamaru.
"No, I can't… My mom will kill me! Sorry, Naruto, but I really can't," Kiba said in a panicked voice. Yeah, saying no to a best friend is tough for someone as loyal as Kiba, but agreeing was even harder for him.
"Alright, but can I at least come over?" I sighed, planning out my free day.
"Oh wow, your tEachers finally left you alone?" Kiba sneakily inserted an extra "t" in "teachers."
"Yeah."
"And the Uchiha twins backed off?" he looked even more surprised.
"Yeah." Their mother was handling some clan business, and she took her daughters with her.
"And Ino isn't bothering you?" Kiba continued listing things. Yeah, something is definitely wrong with my life.
"Yeah."
"And…"
"Enough! Just answer, yes or no," I snapped, while Shikamaru chuckled quietly. That bastard, he looks half-asleep, but he still hears and sees everything. Typical Nara.
"Of course, yes. Like I would ever say no," Kiba grinned.
"Then why were you interrogating me?" I sighed.
"Because it was funny," he looked away. Man, when we first met, he was such a nice and simple kid. What happened?
"You'll be the one answering Iruka's questions," I declared triumphantly.
"I surrender and apologize!" Kiba admitted defeat.
"No, I'd have lost my mind long ago if this wasn't at least a little fun," came Shikamaru's lazy voice.
My hand automatically met my face. The same thing happened to Kiba and even to Sasuke, who had been silent this whole time.
Nothing else noteworthy happened. I mean, forgetting my bento in the morning rush and ending up accepting one from Ino—does that really count as an event? (The Uchiha twins sure gave her some death glares for that, but they refused to share their own cooking, since apparently, that "doesn't count.") At first, it only gave me 2% affection, but when Ino herself tried a few crumbs after I finished eating, I suddenly gained another 8%. She then declared that if I ever needed to go to the infirmary, she'd cover for me. And also, that I shouldn't "suffer through" food like that again and should just tell her if something she made didn't turn out right.
At that moment, Kiba and Sasuke looked at me like I was either a hero or a dead man walking. What? If only they knew the "culinary masterpieces" I made while learning how to cook in this world… But even that was nothing compared to Yugao's cooking—after eating her food, those two would probably be able to eat and digest nails.
Anyway, we went to Kiba's place after classes. Man, I love days off!
But even there, things weren't so simple. I don't know why, but today was the first time I noticed a dark-element wound on Kuromaru, as well as the fact that he had acquired the "human speech" skill. Weird—I was at their house just three weeks ago, and I didn't see anything like that. Oh, right, my observation skill improved after everything that happened recently. Now I could notice a little more and read more information in other people's statuses.
Hah, it would be interesting to help him. If I understand correctly, the wound on his right eye severely affects his field of vision and overall effectiveness in battle, and it's the same affliction that med-nins failed to heal. Normally, I wouldn't have any chance of curing it, but I have a Light Aura thanks to my "Light Warrior" status.
First, I should check the status of this affliction—what if it's contagious? I'm not afraid, but I'd rather be cautious.
"Dark-element wound."
A chakra-based poison that prevents the injury from healing or being fully cured, ignoring medical chakra. The greatest difficulty lies in the strange nature of the chakra itself. You are not experienced enough to determine the element, nor skilled enough in chakra control to understand what was done to it. You can't even sense it directly. However, you can feel it—it seems to you like primordial darkness.
Permanent debuff: "Unhealing Wound," and periodic effect: "Sharp Pain."
New quest received!
