Chapter 20: Chapter 20
Two days after the tragic event, Hokage's residence.
Sarutobi Hiruzen wearily leaned back in his chair. It had been a tense time. Yes, there was so much to do: settle everything, calm down the clan heads, and provide the Uchiha compensation, showing care for the victims... The Third really wanted to drop everything right now and go on a mission... rank D! Oh yes, no intrigue, murders, or hypocrisy – just tending to the garden. And why do gennins complain so much about these missions? It's paradise!
But the biggest headache for him was the jinchuriki, both because of his intervention... and because of how everything coincided, and Hiruzen could clearly see that. No, how could they all have coincidentally run into each other in the park like that? And the fact that he decided to show off the Fox's chakra! If only he had known how hard it would be to cover it up, so that no one would notice!
Hiruzen shuddered at the thought, briefly imagining what would have happened if anyone, besides the grateful Uchihas, had noticed it. Yes, the uproar the clan heads would have caused... he couldn't even fully comprehend it, but it had already become the subject of his nightmares for the last two days. At least he could picture the demands of his old friends, now elders. And he really didn't like it.
Just as he didn't like the fact that someone had been helping him cover for Naruto, while remaining unnoticed. Only by looking at the entire picture as a whole could Hiruzen notice that his ANBU were working almost side by side with someone. However, he knew only one such person.
At the same time, underground.
Danzo was very tired and was literally dreaming of two things: a healthy ten-hour sleep and going on a mission where he could relax... oh yes, a rank D mission! Hmm, it seems the second Hokage's method of relaxation had deeply affected his student, just as that paradigm shift did when everyone realized what exactly Tobirama had been up to. Danzo even briefly imagined how the clan heads would react if they saw him on a mission pulling weeds from the garden.
A quiet laugh filled his office. Yes, that would be a perfect joke, though it would be his last, because after such a stunt, they would surely send him to retirement as an old fool.
And also, Danzo really wanted to strangle one jinchuriki... gently, lovingly, but strangle him! Oh, how much trouble that red-haired devil had caused him! And not just because of the failure of his brilliant plan to undermine the power of the Uchihas, or after sending the remaining members of the clan into debt. Yes, the experimental effects on Itachi didn't pan out, but the result was beyond expectations, the man really lost his mind and started massacring the clan. And somewhere in the middle of this action, Danzo's people were supposed to appear and save the remains of the clan, making them debtors. But no, first the jinchuriki made a huge mess of his perfect plan, and then some one-eyed psychopath completely ruined it, coming from the direction where the rescue team was located, first wiping them out, and then starting his own massacre.
But that, Danzo could still tolerate, and launch other combinations into play. However, he had to direct some of his personnel to cover up and erase the traces of Kyuubi's chakra... in the center of the village. No, Danzo was actually somewhat pleased that the village's weapon at such an age was capable of manipulating the Fox's chakra, the boy's value had increased exponentially! And the last Uzumaki seemed to stay relatively sane in that mode, which was even better. But how untimely this was! And how much trouble it caused Danzo. However, Shimura was still amused by the fact that, for some reason, Hiruzen was also trying to cover it up. And they both knew that the opponent knew everything, but, by silent agreement, didn't raise the issue. Not now.
And the actions of this Tsuru... Well, it was commendable that she now had an anchor in the form of a child, and thus a lever of pressure, but to cut down her own comrades and, in general, make Danzo the villain? That was unpleasant, though not fatal. Especially for Shimura's reputation – he was always being portrayed as the villain. What pathetic idiots! Why does almost no one want to understand that everything he does, absolutely everything, is for the good of his village?!? Shortsighted Fool.
Danzo wearily rubbed his temples. Still, maybe he should take that rank D mission, but somewhere far from the village? At least it would be a change of activity.
And the Uchihas had acted up again, right when everyone's attention was focused on them, "flirting with the jinchuriki." Heh, surely Inoichi and Shikaku's heads were splitting right now from such a move by the red-eyed ones.
Speaking of the red-eyed, the percentage of Sharingan activation within the clan had, for the first time in a long while, reached nearly 100%! Now, that was truly a strengthening of the village. Get rid of the trash and leave only the clan's combat potential. Sure, most of them only had one tomoe at best and could live out their whole lives with it, but in the event of an attack on the village, they would contribute, and not insignificantly.
A bit later, outside of political intrigue.
So, the Strength Mastery of the first degree increases the speed of strength growth by 10%, and the Endurance Mastery of the first degree does the same for endurance, while also reducing its consumption. Perfect.
And what about Hitomi? Finally got to that event before the gates of the Uchiha clan.
Hmm, bonus to reputation and accepting it as it is? Well, I wouldn't call it that, more like simple precaution and a fair bit of gratitude on my part. But "awakening of familial feelings" on her side was worth it. Though, I feel like this awakening happened a long time ago. Or maybe she didn't realize it until now? Or was she just pretending? No, pretending like that would have been impossible, so it's more likely she had some realization and reassessment of priorities. Can I trust her now? Ugh, how I want to say "yes," who knows. There are so few people in this world I can truly trust. Kiba and Shikamaru, with their reputation levels with me, and that's about it. Well, maybe Sasuke and Itachi after recent events, but the latter, that bastard, ran off from the village.
I flinched slightly, causing disgruntled muttering from both sides. Glancing at Saya and Aya, I could only sigh sadly. How did it come to this?
No, nothing serious, it's just that their mother had to thoroughly sort through the documents and "flights" at the head's house. Her relatives didn't trust the girls, and they didn't want to stay with clan nannies in the same house – the image of the cousin who attacked them had left a deep mark on both of them. But they both expressed great trust in me. So now both were just sleeping in my bed, pinning me down from both sides. And the bed is so wide, but no, they crawled in on their own in their sleep. Well, at least that's the 10% event that separated me from getting a third heart from both of them. Yep, a beautiful screenshot of the bed "top view" is attached. I feel like a dakimakura (a Japanese pillow with a full-body print).
To distract myself a bit, I decided to tinker with the system.
Heh, and Hitomi actually patched up my red suit. Yep, red... when I saw it in the clothing store window, I knew, it was love at first sight! Why doesn't anyone else appreciate it? It's durable, comfortable, reliable, neither too hot nor too cold, and most importantly – it's red!
+150 reputation with Kyūbi no Yōko for matching tastes.
...suddenly. It would be nice if that fur rug would respond too, it hasn't shown up at all since then, and I don't know how to contact it. So, on that front, silence.
Oh well, it'll work itself out, I've got plenty to deal with. With that thought, I somehow...fell asleep.
