Promaxima and Numerous Death

Chapter 2: Railway Crossing

Drunk man's eyes were full of sorrows, pain and grief, "My brother committed suicide at the railway crossing."

The room fell into an uncomfortable silence. Noah, Dáithí, and Lucas exchanged glances, unsure of how to respond to the man's blunt revelation as it was already awkward enough when Dáithí asked drunk man how his brother died; now they know he died by suicide, the once awkward and little bit curious atmosphere between the friends had evaporated, replaced by a growing sense of unease and awkwardness.

"I'm sorry for your loss." Noah said as he also has elder brother they rarely talks to each other, they are on good terms but because of his elder brother works in foreign countries they can't contact him as they wish and losing brother is something he can't imagine.

Even though he doesn't know him or what he did or why committed suicide, it still can't change the fact that someone took his own life.

How sad and defeated that person must have felt that he took his own life, every life is precious yet he chose to end his life.

"We are sorry for your loss." Both Lucas and Dáithí said.

The drunk man didn't respond, he simply turned his head to the right and looked at the wall where a photo frame hung. The man in the photo who looked just like him was smiling brightly with happiness. The man in the photo looks handsome with fair skin with short hair and clear eyes. He doesn't even look like person who would commit suicide.

"I still remember playing in this house when we were kids."

"He was a kind and helpful person, always ready to help anyone, while I was the troublemaker of this house and always got into fights with others."

"What made me sad and angry was after he died, a bunch of people came. They said they knew him or were his friends and he owed them money or had stolen their family heirloom."

"I didn't get along with my brother that much but I do know one thing about him, he never takes out loans or steals things."

Drunk man looked really angry as he talked about the people who came after he's brother died; he's eyes are filled with rage.

He grabbed the shotgun with both hands and looked at Lucas, Dáithí and Noah.

"Now, tell me which one you are from these two types of people, "The silence that followed the drunk man's question was suffocating, as if the air in the room has become really heavy. The three friends could feel their hearts pounding in their chests, fear creeping in as they realized how messed up their situation has become. The once dimly lit room now seemed darker, the shadows stretching and deepening, as the tension grew.

A chill spread down their spines. The three of them almost get scared to death; The drunk man in front of them thinks they're one of those people who came to him to ask for money or some stolen family heirloom.

Noah's eyes nervously moved to the photo behind the man, the image of him holding a coffee cup a stark contrast to the scene unfolding before them. The man in the photograph looked calm, serene even, a stark contrast to the furious and grief-stricken person standing before them with a shotgun in hand. This twin brother looks the same and so different at the same time.

Noah, sensing the growing hostility, took a cautious step forward, his voice steady but low. "We didn't mean to pry into your pain. We're not here to accuse your brother for any stolen object or take anything from you. We just... came here to meet a person we haven't met for a long time."

"We met your brother at Sabrina's cafe a few years back." Noah said that quickly without thinking at all because he has been to Sabrina's cafe before and it's famous for its coffee and service they provide.

He along with Dáithí and Lucas also tried to get a job there a few months back but they got rejected because it was all female staff cafe male staff isn't allowed.

The man blinked his eyes for a second as a brief moment of doubt crossed his face as he felt something is wrong but he couldn't pin point what. After long tense moment the room has become deathly quiet, the only sound the creaking of the old wooden floor under their feet. Then slowly the man lowered the shotgun though he didn't put it down on floor. His shoulders slumped, as if the weight of his sorrow was too much to bear.

"Is that so, when was that exactly I want to know?" Even though he was drunk and wasn't that bright in head he still asked question that he had learner after dealing with many scammer coming to his home.

Noah looks around the room and saw the big photo frame behind the drunk man and quickly start to make fake stories in his mind.

Now, everything depends on their luck. Even if they run out of their luck after they get the hell out of this house they don't care.

Three of them can see rage in a drunk man's eyes, if they respond with something he doesn't like he is sure going to shoot three of them to death.

"Two years ago when Felroxy FC city won the football final and took home the cup, we were there to celebrate the victory of the team. We are quite huge fan of Felroxy FC city team fans."

Noah said this because in this photo the man is wearing a Felroxy FC city t-shirt and on the photo frame date is written off when the final match took place.

He remembered this date because he lose the bet he made in high school with other kids that Felroxy FC city would lose the match and he's favourite team four-leaf city would win the tournament.

Lucas and Dáithí look at Noah talking all this bullshit with full confidence like he was right there when it happened and he knew this drunk man's brother.

Lucas looked at where Noah is looking and he understood everything why Noah is talking like this.

"Three of us went there to celebrate, we always been together and that time too and after that back and we met him few times and when we met we always talk and he mentioned to us that he was planning to change he's career and did mention to us that he would opened up paranormal investigation agency."

"He was a really kind and polite person but after a few times we didn't meet him thought he might be busy with his work."

Now, it was Noah and Dáithí turned to be shocked because the way Lucas talks like he really knew him and where he works before but the main thing is they don't even know his name yet.

Let alone his name they don't even know his username, where Dáithí found this paranormal investigation agency post or this paranormal investigation agency name.

Dáithí only told Lucas about this place address and Noah didn't even know about this place address let alone whether this house ever existed here or not but still Noah and Lucas were fooling this drunk man with their lies.

The reason why Lucas said this is because the photo frame behind that man is wearing the same ID card as one is on the photo of a group of people standing together for a group photo.

That means he must have worked somewhere else before he started his paranormal investigation agency.

"Yeah, he used to work at that shitty Morgan company. It was a good decision for him to quit working there."

"So, why are you here then when you lost contact with him for years?" The drunk man asked.

This time it was Dáithí who spoke first, "It is because we are interested in supernatural entities and paranormal activities and when we saw his post online. We came here to talk to him about supernatural entities and the power to know more about these things."

"Okay, I believe you but I've no idea about this stuff nor there's any book related to this here that might help you with anyway it was nice knowing you guys." Drunk man said while drinking alcohol conveying his intention to end the conversion now and get them out of his house.

"Okay, it was nice of you. We will take our leave now." Three of them stood up from their chairs and started walking towards the door just as Dáithí reached for the doorknob, the man's voice rang out again, stopping them dead in their tracks.

"Wait," he said, his tone shifting from sadness to something darker, more foreboding.

"Before you go, I need to ask... Do you really believe in all those supernatural entities?"

Noah, Lucas, and Dáithí exchanged a quick, nervous glance, unsure of how to answer. They had concocted their story out of sheer desperation, each lie layered on top of the other in a delicate balancing act. Now, with the door to freedom just a few steps away, they were being pulled back into the conversation with the drunk man again; they just hoped the drunk man didn't catch their lies.

Noah turned slowly to face the man, choosing his words carefully. "We've always been curious about the unknown," he said, his voice steady but cautious. "But to be honest, we've never seen anything ourselves. We're just... seekers, I guess."

The man nodded slowly, as if weighing Noah's words. He seemed to relax slightly, though the tension in the room still simmered just below the surface. "Seekers," he repeated, almost to himself. "My brother was a seeker too. Always looking for something beyond this world, something that would explain the pain, the emptiness."

"Hold on I don't know if this might be helpful or not but the railway crossing here is said to be cursed as all the time people have been dying here whether it is day or night."

"My brother died at night in monsoon, it was raining like clouds were going to burst open that night."

"Thank you sir for your help. Now, we are going as we have to go somewhere else too."

For the last time they looked at the skinny man with tattoos on his hand and neck, bald and wearing old jeans and nothing on the top. Even though he was skinny he still had defined muscles.

With that, the three friends slowly turned and opened the door, stepping out into the afternoon hot air. As they walked away from the house, the sound of the door closing behind them was like a final end to the bizarre and unsettling encounter.

As they step outside they breathe in fresh air, "That was a really scary encounter. For a moment, I thought he would actually shoot us to death with his shotgun."

Lucas look at Dáithí with fear, "Don't be so loud Dáithí, what if he listening behind the door."

"Sorry." Dáithí quietly said in lower voice.

Noah stood on the street and looked at the mob gathered around the railway crossing group of high schoolers and some other people gathered there.

High school students seem to be searching for something at the railway track, while an adults group of people are trying to help one man lying on the ground they're giving him CPR but it doesn't seem like he's going to survive. The group of high schoolers continued to search the tracks, their frantic movements a sharp contrast to the dying man on the street. They seemed desperate, their eyes darting around as if looking for something only they could see.

Noah asked one man standing in front of him, "Do you know what's happening here, everything seems chaotic."

"Well, a man over there suddenly fell on ground while holding his chest, it seems got a heart attack and those people are trying to help him and they already called the ambulance but his condition doesn't seem to be good." Man responded.

"I hope the ambulance gets here quickly and he survives." Noah said

"What are this high school students are searching at railway track, it's really dangerous if train comes on 2nd track."

"I don't know what they're searching for, we tried to ask them but they're not giving us the right answer, they're just keep on saying some gibberish."

'What's going on here? This whole situation is giving me an eerie feeling and it's frightening because I've never felt like this before. It's almost like my instincts are screaming for me to get the hell out of here.' Noah thought to himself.

People who were circling around the man took a few steps back and cleared the road; only a few were still standing there.

"It seems that man didn't survive, it must be his fate no-one can escape from what's written in their fate." The stranger with whom Noah was talking just left after saying that.

Man sitting next to the dead was crying without making any sound. It must be the dead man's relative or friend. He was holding his friend's hand tightly as he still couldn't believe his friend was gone.

Then a high school girl standing not from this scene starting to walk towards the crossing Noah couldn't understand why but this High school girl he didn't even know was standing there a few seconds ago caught his attention.

When Noah looked at her the eerie feeling intensified more than before he couldn't explain this eerie feeling at all.

Noah's instincts screamed at him to turn around and leave, to get as far away from this place as possible but his feet wouldn't move as if they're being held by someone.
