Chapter 7: Chapter 7 You Have No Right to Recognize Your Son
Unlike his reaction, when Lu Yanbai saw Jian Si, his irritated eyes suddenly brightened. He jumped off the bed and ran toward Jian Si.
He wasn't wearing shoes, and fearing that his feet would be cut by the glass shards on the floor, Jian Si immediately ran over and picked him up. "Be careful, remember to wear shoes next time."
Lu Yanbai, who had just been fierce like an enraged little beast, now behaved gently like a kitten, vigorously nodding his small head.
"I'll remember, I'll definitely wear shoes next time."
"Good boy!" Jian Si doted on him, rubbing his head. For the first time, knowing he was her son, she truly held him in her arms.
Her heart felt sour and bitter, yet there was a hint of relief and satisfaction.
Lu Youting watched his son, who had just been throwing a tantrum at him, now obediently listening to Jian Si. His heart felt as if a jar of vinegar had spilled, full of sourness.
"What are you doing here?"
Facing his questioning, Jian Si calmly placed Lu Yanbai back on the bed and extended her hand toward him with a stranger's demeanor. "Director Lu, hello! I am the cardiothoracic surgeon, Jian Si, that you hired. Please advise me in the future."
Lu Youting stared in disbelief.
"You are Professor Jian?"
Jian Si hid her hatred toward him and answered graciously and appropriately, "My alias is Jian Ning, but my real name is Jian Si."
Hearing this, Lu Youting's face turned as ugly as if it had been splashed with ink.
"You are actually Jian Ning."
The professor he had tried so hard to bring here was actually his ex-wife.
Seeing his expression, Jian Si felt a surge of satisfaction, smiling confidently. "Rest assured, I will do my utmost to cure your son."
Lu Youting's face grew even darker, and he dragged her toward the door.
"Mommy..."
Afraid that Lu Youting might hurt Jian Si, Lu Yanbai panicked and tried to follow.
Ye Qingqing immediately reached out to stop him, but he slapped her hand away. "Get away, don't touch me."
His palm left a bright red mark on the back of her hand, the pain darkening her face and filling her eyes with a hateful glare, almost wishing she could strangle him.
Seeing him about to run down barefoot again, Jian Si, worried he might cut his feet, quickly said, "I'll discuss your condition with your daddy. Sit there and wait for me. I'll be right back."
Sure enough.
After hearing her words, although still worried, Lu Yanbai obediently sat on the hospital bed without moving.
Ye Qingqing clenched her molars, her forced elegance and generosity nearly collapsing, disgust nearly spilling from her eyes.
She had painstakingly looked after him for four years, yet she couldn't compare to Jian Si, who had abandoned him since his childhood.
Truly an ungrateful wretch.
Lu Youting dragged Jian Si into the hospital corridor. "Jian Si, do you remember what you promised me yesterday?"
Jian Si replied calmly, "Lu Youting, rest assured, I didn't come back to take Xiao Bai from you. I promised I wouldn't acknowledge him, and I absolutely won't. Once his heart condition is treated, I'll leave here and never return. I don't want my presence to disrupt his peaceful life."
Lu Youting looked at her skeptically, clearly not quite believing her. "Really?"
Jian Si replied unflinchingly, "Currently, Xiao Bai and I have only the relationship between doctor and patient, and with you, Director Lu, the relationship between doctor and patient's family member. That's all."
Lu Youting, as if he could see through everything, stared at her intently for a moment.
Seeing she didn't seem to be lying, he reluctantly let her go.
"Remember what you said, if I find out you go back on your word, I will not let you off."
Jian Si looked at him playfully, then turned and left.
Her final glance left Lu Youting puzzled, unsure of what it meant.
Jian Si returned to the hospital room.
The hospital room had been cleaned by the janitorial staff.
Seeing Jian Si return, Lu Yanbai immediately jumped off the bed, ran barefoot for a couple of steps, then remembering Jian Si's instruction, he went back to put on shoes and hugged Jian Si's legs tightly, sweetly calling out, "Mommy!"
Feeling a warning glare from someone, Jian Si crouched down, touched his little face, and gently said, "I'm not your mommy, okay? I'm your chief physician, my name is Jian Ning."
Lu Yanbai had already decided she was his mother and wouldn't listen to her explanation.
"You are my mommy, I've seen your photo at great-grandfather's place, I can't be mistaken."
After saying that, he pulled out a photo from under his pillow.
"Look, this is mommy, looks exactly like you."
Jian Si took the photo and looked at it.
It was indeed a photo taken with Lu Youting the year they got divorced, accompanying the old master and the lady.
The old master and the lady sat in front, while she stood behind, bending over with her hands on their shoulders, happy like a child.
She hadn't expected that after all these years, the grandparents had kept this photo.
Her heart ached in waves, and she had a lot to say but didn't know where to start.
Seeing her silent, Lu Yanbai pointed at her in the photo and said, "Mommy, look, isn't this you?"
Jian Si forcefully held back her sorrow, forcing herself to stay composed, "It really looks alike, but people do resemble each other, there are many people in the world who look alike, it's just a coincidence."
Lu Yanbai wasn't convinced, "If you're not my mommy, then why didn't you deny it that day in the parking lot?"
Jian Si took a deep breath, already having thought of an excuse, "Because I knew you were the young master of the Lu family who had run away from the hospital, I was afraid you wouldn't go back, so I could only use this method."
Seeing that she still would not admit it, Lu Yanbai's eyes filled with tears, and they began to fall.
"Why won't you admit you're my mommy? Don't you like me? Don't you want to acknowledge me? I promise you, I will be good and not throw tantrums in the future, mommy, please don't reject me, okay?"
His words were like a sharp blade, slicing through Jian Si's heart.
She was nearly swayed by her own soft heart.
But remembering her promise to Lu Youting, she had to force herself to stay strong, "Xiao Bai, don't cry, you're very well-behaved, and I would love to have such a handsome and obedient son. But I really am not your mommy. If you don't mind, you can call me godmother, and I'll take you as my godson."
Lu Yanbai, having just calmed down, erupted again, pushing Jian Si away like a wild beast with blood-red eyes and a twisted face.
"You are all liars, despising me, not wanting me, just go... I don't want to see you..." he said, ripping out the IV from his hand.
Blood suddenly sprayed out, splattering on Jian Si's face.
The warm liquid jolted Jian Si back to reality, suddenly realizing Xiao Bai's situation might not be as simple as it seemed.
Lu Yanbai began to smash things.
He overturned everything that could be overturned.
Even things that couldn't be overturned, he tried to overturn.
Lu Youting immediately rushed over, held him tightly in his arms, and shouted to Ye Qingqing, "Hurry up!"
Ye Qingqing quickly pulled out a sedative and forcefully injected it into his body.
The previously agitated Lu Yanbai immediately quieted down, collapsing into Lu Youting's arms and fell deeply asleep.
Ye Qingqing then quickly attended to his bleeding.
Finally, the hospital room quieted down.
Lu Youting glared fiercely at the shocked Jian Si, "More trouble than help, had I known this, I wouldn't have asked you to come back."
His cold and harsh words snapped Jian Si back to reality.
She got up from the floor, fiercely grabbed Lu Youting's collar, and angrily demanded, "Tell me, what exactly is wrong with Xiao Bai? How did he become like this?"
This wasn't merely a bad temper.
It was like, like bipolar disorder—
