Chapter 84: Remembrance Of The Old Times
Jamal was still sleeping when he heard a knock on his door. Getting up, he got out of the bed and opened the door to see who it was. Of course, it was Ula.
"Can I come in?"
"Uh, sure," he said.
He let her through, before closing the door behind him. Turning around, he watched as Ula looked out the window of the view ahead. There was silence in the air, as no one said a word until Jamal broke it.
"Um, you needed something?" he asked her while she was still looking outside.
"You know, I didn't need anything from you," she said, turning to face him.
"Then what did you need?" he asked, as she approached him.
She stopped once she was close enough and stared into his eyes. He didn't budge as she grabbed his hand. He watched as she moved closer to his face.
"I remember when I first saw you, at the Academy. You seemed surprised to see us and where you were. I almost thought you didn't deserve to be there." she told him softly.
He didn't make a sound, a bit surprised at her honesty. He was about to open his mouth to respond but thought better and kept it shut.
"But then I saw that you were serious. Just some random kid who hasn't used his powers properly in his whole lifetime, and just take us all out. I was impressed, and I didn't think you could do it. Now look at you. After everything, you and us and everyone else. How everything has changed and," she began to falter. "I just wanted to say after everything we've been through, I still love you."
Jamal just stared into her, as she began to let go but he grabbed her hands again.
"And I do too," he said, before kissing her.
She didn't back away, as they stayed embraced for several seconds. Once he pulled away, he smiled at her. Ula just stayed embraced to him for several minutes, as he let her. Once she was satisfied she moved back and just smirked at him playfully.
"So how much longer?" he asked her.
"Seven more months."
He looked at her one last time before he could hear Fonda call out to Ula.
"I don't care what Hops told you, but you should probably go before they get impatient. Just remember I'll be there the whole way," he told her.
With that, she just smiled and kissed him one last time before leaving the room. Closing the door, he took a sigh of relief. It was an important conversation to be discussed and Jamal was glad he listened to what was on her mind. Things would be fine, at least for now, and he had to stay confident. Jamal was prepared for the days to come.
