Chapter 83: News That Probably Should Have Been Private
"That's where you went last week?" Hops blurted out while getting up from the table.
Jamal was silent, as he stared at his empty plate. He didn't think it would be announced like this or even at all.
"Congrats?" Fonda said.
"No, no, no! Why! Why now? We are in a freaking war! How did y'all have time for this? How!" he walked up to Jamal furious.
"I'm just as shocked as you are. I, I don't even have words right now." Jamal quickly replied.
"Yes, you do! You had time to do it in the hotel, and now you're shocked. I should have known better! We got to take care of another child, while we already dealing with two others right here!" he cried out, pointing at Fonda and Brat.
"Hey!" Brat complained to him.
"No, shut up! This is a serious discussion! Okay, we don't have time to deal with this. We aren't a daycare!"
"Enough, Hops! This has nothing to do with you!" Ula hopped into the conversation, getting in between them both.
"Get out my way!" he spat in her face.
"Hey, calm down now!" Jamal called out to him, getting back in his face, "I got this."
"You know what? You're right, but I'm done. Everyone wants to do what they want. Doing this and that, not even trying to get out of this broken place! Shame on y'all being okay with this! Hope y'all still here when they come to conquer this crappy city!" he backed away, before walking down the hallway to get his belongings.
Everyone was silent, as Jamal just stared at where Hops went. A few moments later, he came out with one bag and stared at them all for a few seconds before saying one final word.
"Goodbye."
They just watched as he walked out the door, not even bothering to close it, as he took a right closer to the ocean. Jamal sighed, as he took back a seat. No one looked at each other, disappointed. He was probably right, why did he do it over there? Probably was in the moment, but he could have done better.
"If you need me, I'll just go back in my room," he spoke up, getting up from the table and back to the room he came from.
Once inside, he closed the door shut, and sat back on the bed, staring at the world outside. He was so stupid, and yet there was nothing they could do now. Hops left them because of this, and he probably wasn't coming back. Where he would go, he didn't know, but he had more problems to worry about.
Grumbling to himself, he got comfortable in his bed and took a nap, not knowing what would happen next. The plan to get out the country would still happen, with or without Hops and he would make sure of it.
