Pokemon: The Untamed Journey

Chapter 45: Daily Life

----

Back in the kitchen, Kai began planning the dishes for the day.

With today's harvest yielding cucumbers, eggplants, tomatoes, cabbages, and strawberries, there were plenty of fresh ingredients to work with.

However, these were more suited as side dishes rather than main courses.

Considering the dietary needs of his Pokémon, some were carnivores, some herbivores he needed a well-balanced variety of dishes.

After some preparation, he emerged from the kitchen, greeted by the eager gazes of his Pokémon, who had just returned from washing off the dirt from their harvest work.

The meal included:

Smashed Cucumber Salad – Crisp and refreshing, with a hint of tangy sweetness, a dish particularly enjoyed by the four Poliwag.

Fish-Flavoured Eggplant – A steaming, savoury dish bursting with rich, umami flavours.

Classic Scrambled Eggs with Tomatoes – A simple yet delicious staple.

Braised Fish – Freshly bought from the market, perfectly cooked until the tender meat absorbed the fragrant, slightly spicy sauce.

Fruit and Vegetable Salad with Yogurt – A light dessert, mixing yoghurt with freshly harvested strawberries and other produce.

With so many Pokémon, the dining table inside the cottage was far too small to accommodate everyone, so the feast took place outdoors.

As the Pokémon dug into their meal, the air filled with delighted sounds.

The cucumber salad's crispness and mild acidity were a big hit with the Poliwag, who eagerly gobbled it down.

The two Cottonees practically buried their faces in their salad bowls, humming happily as they enjoyed the sweetness of the strawberries they had helped grow.

Eldegoss, watching them with a mix of exasperation and fondness, gently nibbled at its own portion, savouring the taste of the produce it had nurtured.

Since settling down at the farm, Eldegoss had grown to love this simple yet fulfilling life. Though it had once enjoyed drifting freely with the wind, there was something deeply satisfying about having a place to call home.

Perhaps this was what some Pokémon had told it about the feeling of having a family.

---

After lunch, some Pokémon dozed off for a nap, while others, brimming with excess energy, played and trained in the open fields.

Swampert and Ceruledge engaged in an intense sparring session.

Swampert's fists swung with ferocious power, while Ceruledge, embodying the composure of a skilled swordsman, expertly dodged and parried with its flaming blades.

Each missed strike left deep craters or gashes in the ground an unfortunate Pokémon caught in the crossfire wouldn't stand a chance.

Watching closely from a safe distance, Growlithe sat beside Moltres, eyes wide with focus.

At first, Moltres had been reluctant to accept its sudden role as a mother figure to the little Pokémon especially since Growlithe had taken to calling it "Mom" and Kai "Dad."

But Growlithe was relentless in its affection, and Moltres, who had never experienced this kind of companionship before, found itself gradually lowering its guard.

Perhaps the emotions from incubating the egg had also played a part, but whatever the reason, Moltres now found itself deeply attached to the little Fire/Rock pup, always keeping a watchful eye on it.

Observing this change, Kai smirked knowingly. This is going to be interesting to watch unfold.

---

Feeling a wave of drowsiness wash over him, Kai stretched and muttered, "I've been busy all morning… The weather's nice… Maybe I should take a nap."

He scanned the Pokémon around him, searching for the ideal "bed."

Swampert and Ceruledge were too caught up in their sparring definitely not an option. One was pure muscle, the other covered in armour. Neither seemed remotely comfortable.

Moltres? Too soon for that kind of closeness.

Eldegoss, Cottonees, and Mimikyu? Too small.

That left only two viable choices: Luxray, who was lazily dozing on the ground, and Dragonite, who was gently drifting in the air.

Fluffy and warm… or soft and bouncy?

After careful consideration, he made his choice Dragonite it was!

Looking up, he called out, and in a flash, Dragonite swooped down, landing like a gust of wind.

Smiling, Kai explained his request.

Dragonite, ever the affectionate companion, was more than happy to comply. It picked a sunny patch of grass, plopped onto its back, and patted its round belly invitingly.

Kai chuckled, settling in on the plush, slightly bouncy surface.

It's like sleeping on a premium mattress…Maybe only a Snorlax could match this level of comfort.

For a moment, he considered catching a Snorlax just for the ultimate nap experience but then quickly dismissed the idea. My farm's entire harvest wouldn't be enough to feed it.

Before he knew it, Kai had drifted off into a peaceful sleep, watched over by Dragonite's gentle gaze.

A Mysterious Incident

At some point, Kai was roused by a mixture of commotion and… something wet on his face.

He cracked open his eyes, greeted by the sight of Growlithe eagerly licking him awake.

"Woof~"

The moment Growlithe saw him stir, it barked excitedly, drawing the attention of the other Pokémon.

Eldegoss bounded over urgently, though lacking hands, it resorted to hopping in place to get Kai's attention.

"What's going on?"

Shaking off his drowsiness, Kai followed Eldegoss to where the other Pokémon had gathered in a circle.

At the centre of the commotion were the two cottonees, huddled together, their expressions uneasy as if they were experiencing something strange.

Kai's brows furrowed. His fatigue vanished instantly.

Knew it. Something's up.
