Chapter 362: Chapter 44 : A futile Attempt

"Alright, Pikachu, let's get in close! Use Iron Tail!" Ash called, his voice echoing across the arena.

Pikachu's tail gleamed silver as it bolted toward Slowbro in a blur of speed, sand flying into the air with each rapid step.

The electric mouse leaped mid-run, spinning in the air like a glimmering tornado of steel. The silver light from its tail shimmered as Pikachu descended toward its opponent.

"Psychic! Redirect it!" Lorelei's command was calm but sharp.

Slowbro's eyes glowed with that same pink aura, and suddenly Pikachu froze mid-flight, its glowing tail mere inches from Slowbro's shell.

The powerful aura surrounding Slowbro shifted, and Pikachu was hurled backward by an unseen force, flipping in the air before landing on all fours, skidding to a stop.

Ash clenched his fists. Slowbro hadn't even flinched. "Pikachu, are you okay?"

"Pika-piiiii!" Pikachu nodded, sparks flying from its cheeks.

"Good! That means we're not out of the fight!"

---

"Slowbro, use 'Rain Dance'!"

The sky darkened suddenly as thunderclouds began forming. Lorelei smirked faintly.

The battlefield was engulfed by weather-changing energy, and within moments, heavy droplets began to fall from the sky, splattering the sandy ground.

The sunlight Ash had been relying on was smothered in moments, and rain poured harder with each second, soaking Pikachu and Ash as visibility dimmed.

Ash grinned nonetheless. "You just played to our strengths! Pikachu, "Thunderbolt!""

The rain amplified the electric charge in Pikachu's cheeks as it let out a massive surge of golden electricity that ripped across the field.

The power of Thunderbolt surged even more violently thanks to the rain, glowing with blinding energy.

"Psychic!" Lorelei commanded again.

The crowd watched in awe as Slowbro's Psychic aura flared to life once more.

The massive Thunderbolt tore toward Slowbro, wild and uncontrollable—but just as before, the lightning froze in place a few meters away, stopped dead by Slowbro's psychic field.

Even with rain increasing the power of the move, Slowbro's control was absolute.

"It's eating these attacks like they're nothing…" Ash muttered. "We'll need to mix things up, Pikachu!"

—-

"Pikachu, go for "Quick Attack!" Bait it out!" Ash called.

Pikachu vanished in a flash of white light, darting across the field in zigzag patterns. The rain streaked behind it like sparkling droplets, leaving trails of energy where it passed. Lorelei watched intently, her expression hardening.

"Calm Mind," she ordered.

Slowbro's aura grew even more intense as its focus deepened, the rain pelting its serene body as it calmly channeled its latent power.

Pikachu zipped around in rapid movements, dashing closer, closer—until it leaped straight toward Slowbro itself, only to vanish again at the last second with a skillful "Feint".

"Now use "Electro Ball"! From behind!" Ash shouted with a grin.

The ball of pure lightning crackled to life as Pikachu launched it from behind Slowbro, moving too fast for Lorelei to issue a command.

It slammed into Slowbro, the first successful hit of the match.

The crowd gasped as Slowbro stumbled slightly, shaking off the attack. But Lorelei smirked. "

"Not bad, Ash. But Slowbro's not going down that easily. Psychic—again."

Before Ash could capitalize on the hit, Slowbro's Psychic aura expanded outward, blasting Pikachu back with raw mental energy.

Pikachu tumbled across the wet, muddy ground but quickly bounced back up, shaking off the rain.

---

The rain showed no sign of stopping, but it gave Ash an idea. "Pikachu, use "Double Team"! Get around the storm!"

Pikachu's form multiplied instantly, and dozens of blurry copies of the electric mouse appeared across the field, dashing in every direction.

The rain distorted the illusions, making it even harder to tell which one was real.

Slowbro's calm expression faltered slightly as its glowing eyes scanned the battlefield, trying to track the real Pikachu.

"Now combine "Iron Tail" and "Quick Attack"!" Ash commanded, seizing the moment of confusion.

The real Pikachu shot out from the maze of clones, its tail shining silver and its body practically a blur, zipping through the rain.

Pikachu swirled around Slowbro at blinding speed, bouncing off the ground and narrowly missing its Psychic pulses.

The crowd leaned forward, watching tensely as Pikachu circled its opponent like a glowing, charging bullet.

WHAM! Pikachu struck Slowbro from the side with Iron Tail, sending it staggering again. The battlefield erupted into cheers.

---

Lorelei adjusted her stance, seeming impressed but unsurprised. "Recover."

Slowbro instantly glowed with a white light, its Psychic powers knitting its body back into its usual calm, serene state.

Ash's heart sank—the damage Pikachu had just done was undone in mere moments.

"Healing, huh…" Ash muttered, his voice tense. "This is going to take a lot more than speed."

"Indeed," Lorelei said calmly. "I admire your creativity, but you'll need more than this to break through Slowbro's focus."

---

The rain began to lighten as the storm dissipated, but Ash wasn't deterred. He grinned, an idea clearly forming in his mind.

"You said I'd need more than this, right? Then let's push beyond what it thinks we can do!"

Lorelei raised an eyebrow, intrigued.

"Pikachu, "Thunderbolt!" But don't aim at Slowbro—aim at the field!"

"Pika...CHUUUUUUUUUU!" Pikachu released an enormous blast of electricity into the ground.

The resulting surge created massive sparks that lit up the soaked battlefield, sending electrical arcs through puddles, rocks, and even Slowbro's protective field.

The surrounding elements came alive with Pikachu's energy. The wet ground enhanced the electricity's spread, crackling across every surface, and Pikachu darted in between the sparks with Quick Attack to avoid taking the brunt of the damage itself.

Slowbro's Psychic aura began rippling uncontrollably as it tried to contain the storm of electricity, visibly straining for the first time.

"Now, Pikachu!" Ash shouted. "Finish with "Electro Ball"! Full power!"

Pikachu jumped above the battlefield, gathering the remnants of the electricity into a massive, glowing orb.

The Electro Ball hummed with immense energy as Pikachu hurled it directly toward Slowbro.

---

"Psychic!" Lorelei shouted firmly. Slowbro's aura exploded outward in an attempt to catch the incoming attack, its entire body glowing with fierce determination.

The Electro Ball collided with the Psychic barrier, creating a massive explosion of light and energy.

The resulting shockwave rippled across the battlefield, throwing up waves of water and sand as even the crowd shielded their eyes.

As the light cleared, Pikachu stood panting, its fur singed and soaked, sparks flickering faintly. Across the field, Slowbro still stood tall, its aura faded but its expression serene.

Both Pokémon stared each other down, exhausted yet determined.

"You've impressed me, Ash," Lorelei called, her voice cutting through the aftermath. "But the true test of an Elite Pokémon is endurance. Let's see how you handle "this" round!"

Ash grinned, always ready for the next challenge. "Pikachu, are you ready for one more round?"

"Pika…CHU!" Pikachu responded, cheeks sparking brightly once again.

The crowd roared as the battle continued into its next electrifying phase.

—--

Ash glanced down at the Z-Ring on his wrist, its Normalium Z shimmering faintly. While it wasn't the ideal choice for Pikachu, he hadn't yet mastered Volt Tackle, rendering the Pikashunium Z useless.

"So, that leaves me with only one option..." Ash's expression shifted, determination flashing in his eyes.

Raising his right fist high into the air, Ash roared loud enough for the entire stadium to hear.

"Pikachu, summon Thunder Bombs!"
