Pokemon Earth’s Parallel World: Dragon Trainer

Chapter 147 – Transaction with Pidgeot

Pidgeot, clearly taken aback by Floyd's blunt assessment, hesitated for a moment, its feathers ruffling slightly.

Seizing this moment of uncertainty, Floyd proposed a solution. "How about we split it evenly? Half for you, and half for us," he suggested, watching Pidgeot's reaction closely.

Pidgeot cocked its head, a look of confusion in its eyes. "Pidgeot?" it uttered, trying to grasp Floyd's proposition.

Floyd elaborated on his offer, "What I mean is, you retain ownership of half of this honey, and we claim the other half. You might not fully grasp the gravity of the situation, but we faced immense danger because of the Ursaluna. My shoulder," Floyd gestured to his injury, "was badly hurt. And Professor Kanraku, though he appears fine now, was under extreme stress, fearing for the life of his partner, Blastoise. Not only you didn't assist us, but your actions inadvertently led to our danger."

Kanraku, overhearing Floyd's remarks, checked himself and then looked at Floyd with mild confusion. "Eh, is that so? But I'm fine," he commented, somewhat perplexed.

Floyd pressed on, addressing Kanraku, "Professor, the reason you're feeling okay now is that we all survived the ordeal. But imagine if Blastoise died against Ursaluna. Would you still feel fine then?"

Kanraku, visibly affected by Floyd's words, began to consider the hypothetical loss of Blastoise. "I, I… Of course, I'd be sad," he admitted, his voice tinged with emotion as he contemplated such a loss.

Pidgeot, now showing signs of distress, seemed to be internalizing the gravity of the situation. "Pi…Pid…geot," it murmured, appearing to feel a sense of responsibility for the events that transpired.

"Pid…geot," Pidgeot vocalized again, though Floyd couldn't decipher its exact meaning.

Kanraku stepped in to translate. "He's offering 1/8th of the honey to us," he relayed Pidgeot's message.

Floyd, however, was not satisfied with the offer. "That's far too little. We risked our lives against Ursaluna, and all we get is a mere 1/8th while Pidgeot gets the majority for doing nothing? That's unfair. We deserve an equal share," he argued, standing firm in his demand for fairness.

Kanraku, attempting to mediate, suggested, "Floyd-san, perhaps 1/8th is reasonable, given the size of the beehive."

But Floyd remained adamant. "No, professor. We should receive our fair share. If Pidgeot had aided us, I might have understood. But it did nothing but create more trouble for us."

Pidgeot, now visibly upset, retorted sharply at Floyd.

Kanraku translated again, "Pidgeot says that the honey was the result of his hard work in stealing it."

Floyd, unimpressed, retorted, "A 'hard work' that directly led to trouble for us." He crossed his arms, conveying his dissatisfaction.

"Pidgeot!" the bird Pokémon cried out again, this time with a hint of concession in its tone.

"He's offering 1/6th of the honey now, his final offer," Kanraku relayed.

Floyd, still aiming for a better deal, countered, "Just 1/6th? How about 1/4th instead?"

Kanraku shook his head, "He says that's too much."

Floyd rubbed his temples, realizing that negotiating with Pidgeot was more challenging than he had anticipated. "Fine, I'll accept the 1/6th, but on one condition," he finally conceded.

Pidgeot looked at Floyd curiously, tilting its head to the side.

"He's asking what your condition is," Kanraku said, facilitating the conversation.

"You have to help us with our exploration of the forest," Floyd proposed.

Kanraku translated, and Pidgeot's reaction was one of curiosity. "What kind of help?" Pidgeot inquired through Kanraku.

"Allow us to ride on you while exploring the forest," Floyd specified his request.

Kanraku, taken aback by Floyd's bold suggestion, expressed his concern. "Floyd, are you sure about returning there? It's dangerous. Remember the Ursaluna?"

Floyd, however, had a rationale for his request. "Professor, have you ever wondered why Ursaluna, as strong as he is, couldn't catch this bird?"

"Pidgeot!" The Pokémon let out an indignant cry.

"Floyd-san, he doesn't appreciate being referred to just as 'bird.' It's disrespectful," Kanraku said, slightly embarrassed by the oversight.

Floyd scratched his head apologetically. "Right, sorry about that, Pidgeot. My theory is that Ursaluna, possibly being an Earth Type, couldn't reach you in the air," he explained.

Kanraku pondered this. "But Ursaring is a Normal Type, and you said it's the middle evolution before Ursaluna. Shouldn't Ursaluna also be a Normal Type? Or could the evolution change that?"

After a moment of realization, Kanraku smacked his forehead. "Of course! How could I forget? Some Pokémon gain a secondary type upon evolving. We've seen this in Caterpie's case."

Floyd nodded, "Exactly. That's why Ursaluna, being possibly a Normal and Earth Type, couldn't catch Pidgeot."

Kanraku, smiling at his own oversight, looked at Floyd. "So, you're suggesting Ursaluna is a dual-type, Normal and Earth?"

Floyd, with a confident demeanor, explained his understanding of the situation. "Yes, this Pidgeot is a Normal + Air type, which makes it nearly invulnerable in the air," he said. "Unless Ursaluna learns a move like rock throw moves or another type of move that can reach airborne targets, it won't be able to touch Pidgeot with its current Earth-based moves."

Kanraku nodded, absorbing the information, then shifted the topic. "I understand the dynamics between Pidgeot and Ursaluna, but what exactly is your plan for going back into the forest?"

Floyd laid out his objectives clearly. "I intend to search for the King's Leaf I mentioned earlier, locate Venusaur, gather some of Beedrill's descendants, and explore other aspects of the forest that we haven't yet uncovered," he explained.

Kanraku, surprised by the mention of Beedrill's descendants, interrupted, "Wait, wait, wait, what do you plan to do with Beedrill's descendants?"

Floyd glanced towards the beehive. "The goal is to ensure a continuous supply of honey. The current supply in this beehive isn't infinite; it will run out eventually. We need a sustainable source," he reasoned.

"But why not try to catch Beedrill directly?" Kanraku asked, puzzled by Floyd's strategy.

Floyd responded, "Beedrill can be quite challenging to deal with due to their size and temperament. It's more practical to start with a smaller one. Weedle, for instance, is easier to evolve, much like Caterpie."

He then turned to Pidgeot, seeking its agreement, "What do you think? Can we count on your assistance?"

After a moment of contemplation, Pidgeot nodded in agreement, seemingly accepting Floyd's proposal.

Later, in the lab, Floyd held a tumblestone, turning it over in his hand. "Have you analyzed the properties of this stone yet?" he inquired.

Kanraku launched into a detailed explanation. "Yes, and the findings are quite fascinating. This stone exhibits some space-related properties. It's complex to explain, but beyond its lightweight and surprisingly non-rigid nature, it also conducts electricity…" He continued detailing the intricacies, which Floyd found somewhat overwhelming but managed to grasp the key points.

Floyd's thoughts drifted to the Apricorn, contemplating where he might find it. The emergence of Pokéballs seemed inevitable, and he knew they would be essential for managing his Pokémon, especially as they grew and evolved.

After spending several hours discussing various topics with Kanraku and his disciples, Floyd decided it was time to leave the laboratory.

As he made his way towards the Safe Zone, a cacophony of noises caught his attention. Curiosity piqued, he veered off his path, drawn towards the source.

Approaching the crowd, he noticed the scouts gathered around something, their faces a mix of excitement and anticipation. Pushing through the throng, he finally saw what had captured their attention: Linh's Tyrogue, its body emitting a faint glow, as if charged with an unseen energy.
