Pokémon dungeon

Chapter 10: D-rank dungeon

After entering the dungeon with his team, Kay found himself surrounded by vast, open landscapes stretching far into the horizon.

The sky was clear, and the strong sunlight warmed his face as he stepped forward. In the distance, towering over the horizon, stood a massive mountain with smoke rising from its peak; it was a volcano.

Its size was intimidating, and even from far away, it looked powerful and dangerous.

Kay and his team started their adventure as usual, walking across the wide plains and keeping an eye out for wild Pokemons.

But something felt strange this time. Days passed, and they noticed that there were very few Pokémon around. They only saw some Pokemons like Pidgey, Spearow, and Rattata.

Kay wasn't happy about this discovery. Fewer Pokemons meant fewer rewards and fewer rewards meant less income.

After all, their earnings depended on the power stones and crystals dropped by defeated Pokemons. This dungeon was starting to feel like a waste of time.

Three days of walking went by, and the team was still walking through the open plains. The volcano on the horizon didn't seem any closer.

Frustrated and tired, the team finally decided to pick up their pace. They concluded that the Pokemons were likely closer to the volcano. That's why the surrounding areas felt so empty.

Things began to change as they approached the rocky terrain near the volcano. Wild Pokemons started appearing; Slugma crawled across the heated rocks, their molten bodies glowing in the dim light.

Numel attacked in small herds, and occasionally, a Growlithe would leap out from behind rocks, barking sharply before attacking the team.

The team members felt more alert now, and Kay could sense the shift in the atmosphere, especially after the attack from these Pokémon. This part of the dungeon was alive and dangerous.

As Kay and his team moved deeper into the dungeon, they encountered more fire-type Pokémon.

The team easily handled attacks from these Pokemons thanks to their strong water-type Pokémon.

However, Kay noticed something weird, the Pokemons here were noticeably stronger than the usual Pokemons found in F-rank dungeons.

Even though the team was winning their battles, each fight required more effort than normal.

After hours of walking and battling, the team stumbled upon a herd of five Ponyta and one Rapidash.

Finally, after nearly a week inside the dungeon, they encountered the leader.

But something felt off. The Rapidash didn't give off the intimidating aura that most dungeon leaders usually had.

The team quickly prepared for battle, releasing their water-type Pokémon. They had come prepared, knowing the dungeon was fire-type based.

With water-type attacks, they had the upper hand. The fight began, and despite the strength of the Rapidash and the Ponyta herd, the team managed to overpower them with well-coordinated water attacks.

After defeating the Rapidash, the team collected the Power Stones and crystals dropped by the defeated Pokémon.

They waited, expecting the dungeon gate to appear as it usually did after defeating the leader.

But minutes passed, and nothing happened. The team stood confused in silence until one member noticed another herd approaching them; five Ponyta and another Rapidash, identical to the previous group.

Confusion filled the air. Why was there another herd with the same composition?

Normally, dungeon leaders were surrounded by their own kind, and once defeated, the gate would appear. This repeated appearance was something none of them had ever experienced.

The team prepared for another battle and fought the second herd. Once again, they succeeded, but the gate still didn't appear.

Time passed, and they faced a third herd, then a fourth, and finally a fifth. Each battle pushed them closer to their limits.

Potions were running low, their Pokemons were exhausted, and the air around the volcano was getting hotter and harder to breathe.

After the fifth battle, one of the team members spoke up. He had heard stories about D-rank and higher dungeons where Pokemons attacked in repeating groups.

These dungeons had waves of first-stage evolved Pokemons led by a second-stage evolved Pokemon.

But in those dungeons, the true leader was far stronger than any Pokemon from these groups.

The realization sent a shiver down Kay's spine. He was already struggling to handle F-rank dungeon Pokémon.

If this dungeon was truly D-rank or higher, it was far beyond his capabilities. The entire team went quiet.

Everyone thought the same thing: They had to end this dungeon quickly before their resources ran out completely.

With no other choice, they decided to climb to the volcano's peak, where they assumed the real dungeon leader was waiting.

The climb was treacherous, and the heat became even more unbearable. Along the way, they encountered new Pokemons like Magby with their fiery breath and Fletchling swooping from above.

At one point, a herd of five Fletchling led by a Talonflame attacked them. The flying-type Pokemons were much harder to deal with, as they attacked from the air and avoided most water-type attacks. However, after a grueling battle, the team finally managed to defeat them.

Exhausted, injured, and low on supplies, the team pushed forward. They were nearing the peak of the volcano, and the air became filled with ash.

The team finally reached a surface under the peak of the volcano. A wide, flat surface stretched out before them, surrounded by molten cracks and rising smoke.

The air was thick with heat, and every breath felt heavy. For Kay, this was the harshest environment he had ever experienced. His clothes stuck to his skin from sweat.

In front of them, a group of Growlithe prowled the battlefield. Kay remarked that there were fewer Growlithe here than the number of first-stage Pokemons usually found near a dungeon leader in F-rank dungeons.

Standing behind the Growlithe were three majestic, wolf-like creatures with a powerful and imposing presence. Their thick, orange coat is accented by bold black stripes that ripple like flames across their body. A flowing mane of creamy fur surrounds its neck and extends down its chest, giving it a regal, lion-like appearance. (An Arcanine)

But behind them was something even more intimidating; a creature that looked like an Arcanine but was much larger.

Understanding that they were about to face their toughest challenge yet, the team quickly began healing their Pokemons.

They used many potions, carefully preparing for the upcoming battle. They couldn't afford any mistakes now.

Their first task was clear: Eliminate the Growlithe before dealing with the Arcanine. The Growlithe were fierce but manageable.

With precise teamwork and powerful water attacks, the team quickly defeated them without interference from the Arcanine.

But as soon as the last Growlithe fell, the three Arcanine roared and lunged at the team without leaving time for them to take a break.

The ground trembled under their heavy paws, and flames erupted in their walk. The team prepared for the intense battle.

Kay stood back, keeping Eevee close. His role was clear; to support the team. After so many months of using Helping Hand, Eevee had increased the move's mastery.

Eevee's support now boosted the team's attack strength by nearly 50%, a significant advantage in such a dangerous battle.

As the battle raged on, Kay pulled out his Pokedex and scanned one of the Arcanine to see its stats:

Arcanine

Potential: Yellow

Stage: Bronze

The stats of the three Pokemons were just the same, and their strength was far beyond anything Kay had ever faced. He couldn't even scan the stats of the leader; it was still too far away.

Despite the Arcanine's overwhelming strength, the team initially held their ground well.

Their water-type Pokémon launched powerful Water Gun and Bubble Beam attacks, pushing the fiery Pokemons to the corner.

Just when it seemed like they were gaining the upper hand, two of the Arcanine suddenly broke away from their opponents and turned the tide...
