Pokémon: Champion’s Story

Chapter 3: Viridian forest

The dense canopy above allowed slivers of sunlight to dapple the forest floor as Alex and Litleo pressed onward. After battling wild Pokémon, their confidence grew but the sound of footsteps on the dirt path ahead made Alex stop in his tracks.

A young boy in a cap was emerging from the shadows, holding a Pokéball. His confident smirk revealed he'd been looking for a challenge.

"You're a new face. How about a battle?" the boy asked.

Alex grinned, excitement bubbling in his chest. "You're on!"

The boy tossed out his Pokéball. "Let's do this! Go, Rattata!"

In a flash of red light, a small, purple Rattata materialized, baring its teeth and ready for a fight.

Trainer Battle Initiated!

Opponent: Youngster Joey

Pokémon: Rattata (Level 6)

Alex felt a rush of adrenaline. "Alright, Litleo, it's your time to shine!"

Litleo stepped forward, growling low, its fiery eyes locked on Rattata.

"Rattata, use Quick Attack!" Joey commanded.

The Rattata darted forward with blinding speed, slamming into Litleo and forcing it back a step.

"You're fine, Litleo! Hit it with Ember!"

Litleo took a deep breath and released a burst of flames. The Ember struck Rattata, leaving a scorch mark on its fur.

Joey frowned. "Rattata, Tail Whip! Lower its defenses!"

The small rodent wagged its tail, trying to intimidate Litleo.

"Don't let it bother you! Charge in with Tackle!" Alex called.

Litleo lunged, slamming into the Rattata with enough force to knock it back. Rattata struggled to its feet, wobbling slightly.

Joey clenched his fist. "You've got guts, but this isn't over! Rattata, another Quick Attack!"

Rattata zipped forward again, but Litleo anticipated the move and sidestepped.

"Finish this, Litleo! Ember!"

With a final burst of flames, Rattata collapsed, defeated.

Rattata Fainted. Litleo Wins!

EXP Gained.

Joey sighed, recalling his Pokémon. "You're pretty good, I'll give you that. I need more training."

The system chimed in Alex's mind.

Achievement Unlocked: First Trainer Battle!

Rewards: Trainer's Charm Activated, Move: Bite (Unlocked for Litleo)

Alex blinked in surprise as he felt the system's gift settle in his mind. Litleo's potential had grown yet again, and now it could learn the move Bite!

He crouched down, petting Litleo. "You're incredible, buddy. Let's keep going."

But now, as the sounds of rustling leaves filled the air, Alex could tell they weren't alone.

Two trainers, a pair of girls wearing matching outfits, emerged from the underbrush, holding their Pokéballs.

"You look like you've got some experience. Care for a challenge?" the first girl asked, her eyes gleaming with competitive spirit.

"I'm always up for a challenge," Alex replied with a grin.

The second girl smirked, tossing her Pokéball into the air. "You'll regret saying that. Go, Pidgey!"

The first girl followed suit, throwing her Pokéball as well. "And I'll send out Butterfree!"

Trainer Battle Initiated!

Opponent: Twin Trainers Lily & Daisy

Pokémon: Pidgey (Level 7), Butterfree (Level 8)

Alex's heart raced. This would be a tough one. "Litleo, you're up!"

Litleo stepped forward confidently, its fiery mane bristling in the wind. "Let's do this, buddy," Alex said, clenching his fists.

"Pidgey, use Gust!" Lily commanded.

"Butterfree, Confusion!" Daisy shouted.

The battle began. Pidgey flapped its wings, sending a blast of wind straight at Litleo. At the same time, Butterfree's psychic powers struck, sending Litleo skidding back.

"Litleo, Work Up to boost your power!" Alex called, trying to steady his partner.

Litleo took a deep breath, flames flickering as it focused. Its stats rose, and it seemed more determined than ever.

"Bite Pidgey!" Alex shouted.

Litleo dashed forward, its sharp fangs sinking into the Pidgey's wing, causing the bird to screech in pain.

"Pidgey, Quick Attack!" Lily ordered.

Pidgey darted toward Litleo, striking fast and knocking it back. But Litleo was undeterred, leaping back to its feet.

"Headbutt Butterfree, now!" Alex commanded, seizing the chance.

Litleo charged at the fragile butterfly Pokémon, its head colliding with Butterfree's abdomen with a solid thud. The impact sent Butterfree tumbling backward, dazed.

"Noble Roar, Litleo! Scare them off!" Alex called, feeling the intensity of the battle rise.

Litleo let out a powerful roar that echoed through the forest, its fiery eyes flashing.

The force of the sound intimidated both Pidgey and Butterfree, causing them to hesitate.

"Ember to finish them off, Litleo!"

Litleo unleashed a final burst of flames, striking Pidgey first. The little bird was overwhelmed by the fiery attack and collapsed. Next, Butterfree was hit by the flames, the Fire-type move melting the bug's resistance.

Pidgey Fainted.

Butterfree Fainted.

Litleo Wins!

EXP Gained.

Both trainers recalled their Pokémon, their faces flushed with effort. "Well, that was unexpected," Lily said, rubbing her forehead. "You're stronger than we thought."

Daisy nodded. "You deserve this."

The system chimed in Alex's mind.

Achievement Unlocked: First Double Battle Victory!

Rewards: Move: flame charge (Unlocked for Litleo)

Alex felt the warmth of accomplishment. "Thanks. You two were great. I can't wait for the next challenge!"

As they walked deeper into the forest, Alex noticed a glint of light reflecting off something around his neck. Reaching up, he found a small charm embedded in the fabric of his shirt.

The system's voice echoed in his mind.

Trainer's Charm: A rare item given to promising trainers. This charm passively attracts rare Pokémon encounters.

His heart skipped a beat. "That explains why we've been seeing such strong Pokémon," Alex said, glancing at Litleo.

After another hour of battling wild Pokémon, they came across a serene river. Alex knelt by the water, filling his canteen while Litleo lay nearby, munching on Fire-type food.

As Alex sat back, his mind wandered. "We're going to need a strong team, Litleo," he said thoughtfully.

He imagined potential additions: a Water-type to counter Fire opponents, maybe a Flying-type for mobility and versatility. He even thought about how cool it would be to find a Dragon-type though the chances of that seemed slim.

Before he could think further, the water suddenly erupted. Alex sprang to his feet as a sleek, silver Pokémon shot out of the river, its body shimmering in the sunlight.

Wild Pokémon Detected!

Pokémon: Dratini (Elite Potential)

Alex's jaw dropped. "No way… A Dratini?!"

The system chimed again.

Elite Potential: Pokémon with immense strength and growth capabilities, one rank below Champion Level. Elite Pokémon are rare and often outclass others in battle and evolution potential.

Dratini's piercing eyes met Alex's for a brief moment. It was cautious but curious, its serpentine form coiled and ready to flee.

"This has to be because of the Trainer's Charm," Alex murmured, his heart pounding. "Litleo, this is our chance! Let's catch it!"

Litleo stood at the ready, growling softly, but before Alex could act, the Dratini let out a cry and dove back into the river.

"No! Wait!" Alex shouted, grabbing his bag and quickly packing up.

Litleo, sensing Alex's urgency, was already on its feet. Together, they sprinted along the riverbank, following the faint ripples in the water.

"We're not letting it get away!" Alex yelled, determination burning in his chest.

The chase was on, and Alex knew one thing for sure: if they could catch that Dratini, it would be a game-changer for their journey.
