Pokemon Battle System: I Reincarnated As A Charmander

Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Flight Badge

On the battlefield.

Fearow's Drill Run missed its target, causing frustration for Kas. This Charmeleon's evasive capabilities were unusually strong, defying typical expectations.

Most importantly, Kalia's commands showed no common mistakes made by novice Trainers. Her battle strategy was clear, her instructions swift and precise, hardly resembling those of a new Trainer.

Lian stood on the battlefield, assessing Fearow's injuries. He sensed that another attack might be too much for it to withstand unless it had a move like Roost to recover, which seemed unlikely.

Of course, this was just Lian's intuition; the actual situation could differ. It was possible that Fearow's level was higher than he anticipated, making such resilience feasible.

The key now was to swiftly defeat Fearow. He couldn't guarantee avoiding the next Drill Run, as his burst speed was depleted. At normal speed, he wasn't significantly faster than Fearow.

At this moment, Kas issued another command: once again, Drill Run. Currently, Drill Run posed the greatest threat to Charmeleon, potentially ending the battle instantly. Using any other move might not immediately defeat Charmeleon.

Moreover, Kas doubted that Charmeleon could consistently dodge Drill Run. Although the move requires some time to spin and build momentum, its speed is still remarkably swift.

"Charmeleon, use Dragon Rage."

Kalia opted not to have Lian rely on Hidden Power again but instead commanded Dragon Rage. This choice provided more consistent damage and was sufficient to defeat Fearow.

As a former Grass-type Gym Leader, her judgment, though not always foolproof, emphasized the importance of experience.

Upon hearing the command, Lian prepared to swiftly unleash Dragon Rage. He couldn't guarantee evading Fearow's Drill Run entirely, and while he wasn't certain if this single Dragon Rage would defeat Fearow, the chances were high.

Just as Lian readied his attack, Fearow transformed its downward momentum into rotational force, with its sharp, elongated beak resembling a spinning drill, rapidly heading straight for him.

Whoosh!

As Fearow descended, Lian unleashed Dragon Rage, emitting a powerful shockwave from his mouth directly towards Fearow.

Boom!

With a loud explosion, Fearow collided fiercely with the shockwave, surprising Lian as the bird's sharp beak pierced right through it.

However, the shockwave from Dragon Rage did not dissipate entirely. The remaining force continued to impact Fearow relentlessly, making it challenging for the bird Pokemon to withstand such concentrated Dragon-type energy.

Lian couldn't determine if Dragon Rage had caused significant damage as there was no time to analyze; Fearow was swiftly approaching him.

Attempting to dodge, Lian realized Fearow was already too close. All he could do was constantly maneuver and evade the direct onslaught of Fearow's Drill Run.

"It's futile," Kas observed, knowing Charmeleon couldn't escape this time. His Fearow had undergone specialized training, allowing slight adjustments during its Drill Run based on the opponent's position.

Despite Charmeleon's evasive maneuvers left and right, they were ultimately ineffective unless executed just before Fearow reached it.

Finally, victory against this Charmeleon seemed imminent.

Kas wasn't aware of Kalia's second Pokemon, but it couldn't possibly be more challenging than this Charmeleon. Once he defeated Kalia, he still intended to award her the badge. Her strength far surpassed that of a typical new Trainer, earning his recognition.

As Kas pondered what Kalia's second Pokémon might be, Fearow gradually slowed down. Just as it approached Lian, it suddenly halted, then collapsed weakly onto the ground, losing its ability to battle.

"What happened?"

The unexpected turn of events stunned Kas momentarily before he realized that Fearow had not actually blocked Dragon Rage's shockwave. Instead, it endured the attack, and only the spinning force from Drill Run kept it moving forward.

By then, Fearow was severely injured and on the brink of collapse. As its strength waned, it could no longer maintain momentum.

Unlike other moves, Dragon Rage inflicts fixed damage, bypassing the opponent's defense. Attempting to counter it with an offensive move, like Fearow did, proved futile.

With Fearow unable to continue battling, the match reached its conclusion, granting Kalia victory in this gym battle.

Lian was highly satisfied with the outcome, despite sustaining injuries. In Pokemon battles, getting hurt is inevitable; however, the most significant aspect for him was the substantial gains from this fight.

With a wry smile, Kas recalled his Fearow. Dragon Rage is classified as a Special move, and attempting to counter it with an Attack-type move, considering Dragon Rage's unique effect, was futile.

Although he lost, Kas wasn't disheartened; encountering such a talented Trainer actually brought him joy. He even felt slightly ashamed for initially doubting Kalia. This Charmeleon was significantly faster than the one from the Extreme Speed Conference, and its use of Rock Type Hidden Power clearly indicated that this was no ordinary Charmeleon.

"Are new Trainers already reaching such high levels?" Kas began questioning how this could be possible. Training Pokemon takes considerable time, where the effects of early nurturing only become evident later on.

However, this Charmeleon defied expectations. Not only did it exhibit remarkable autonomy but also possessed extensive battle experience. Combined with Kalia's guidance, it performed like a Pokemon meticulously trained for several years.

Kalia, though expecting a potential victory, still felt somewhat dazed when she actually won. She knew her Pokemon best - from a weak Charmander to now a formidable Charmeleon, the transformation had taken just over a month.

The thought of defeating the strongest Red Star Gym with just one Charmeleon felt surreal to her.

"Here's your badge."

As Kalia pondered, Kas presented her with the Flight Badge from the Flying Type Gym.

The Flight Badge resembled the Speed Badge slightly, featuring an image of a flying bird, inspired by the first Gym Leader's Pidgeot at the Flying Type Gym.

Kalia accepted the Flight Badge and pinned it onto her attire. Now she had earned two gym badges; only one more was needed before she could participate in the beginner Trainer assessment.

"Thank you, Gym Leader," Kalia expressed her gratitude.

"You and your Charmeleon are truly exceptional. There's no need to thank me; this badge is earned through your own prowess," Kas smiled.

After receiving the badge, Kalia didn't linger long and returned to the Pokemon Hotel for some rest.

With the badge secured, Kalia decided not to stay longer in Falcon City. She prepared herself, planning to depart in a few days for Pearl City to challenge the Water Gym.

Compared to the Flying Type Gym, the Water Gym was considerably weaker, posing little issue for Kalia. In fact, she could already start preparing for the beginner Trainer assessment.
