Chapter 8: Chapter 8: 5 Girls
"A slave?" Charlotte said lightly.
She then walked up to the little girl. Despite her face being covered in ashes, the girl's beauty could still be seen.
"No wonder she was captured as a slave!" Charlotte murmured, observing the girl.
The girl blushed slightly when Charlotte stared at her. Charlotte, with her long golden hair and muscular physique, looked imposing, especially with her battle-damaged clothes revealing her well-toned muscles.
Charlotte examined the lock, then broke it with a sharp pull. She opened the door, letting the little girl out.
It turned out there were more than just one girl. Four others followed her out.
"I killed all the pirates above, and you are free now," Charlotte said, looking at the five young and beautiful girls.
The gloomy eyes of the girls immediately brightened.
Charlotte didn't linger. She moved on to each of the cells, breaking the locks one by one. The prisoners inside started emerging one after another.
After finishing this task, Charlotte walked out with her hands in her pockets. She had encountered these unfortunate people, and helping them didn't cost her much. After all, she hated slavery.
Upon leaving the dark cabin, Charlotte took a deep breath. The despair she felt inside the cabin moments ago lingered, and with her special sensitivity, she could sense the hopelessness of the captives. It was a bad feeling.
"No wonder Baloric Redfield enjoys this ability—being able to sense others' thoughts makes you feel their pain," she thought, shaking off the unsettling feeling.
She exhaled, grabbing the box filled with Bailey, and stepped off the pirate ship.
"Master!" The familiar female voice rang out just as Charlotte was about to leave.
Charlotte turned and frowned. "What now? You are free. Why are you calling me?"
The girls exchanged glances and then knelt before her.
"Master, please take us in. We are willing to serve you as cattle and horses in gratitude for your kindness!" The girl from before spoke.
Charlotte, noting the strong emotions of the five girls, felt a headache coming on. She could sense their sincerity.
"Why?" Charlotte asked.
Hearing his question, none of the girls spoke immediately. Sadness appeared in their eyes, and Charlotte grew more irritated. He realized that having too much knowledge wasn't always a good thing.
"Master, we are homeless. Our kingdom was constantly attacked by pirates because we couldn't pay the exorbitant gold taxes. Now, our entire kingdom has been destroyed, and the island is left in ruin. Only we remain. The pirates kept us alive because they wanted to sell us to slave traders. Please, take us in!" The girl cried, kneeling before Charlotte.
Charlotte, moved by her emotions, spoke gently, "Get up first."
He stepped forward and helped them rise.
"What are your names?" he asked.
The girl leading the group spoke first.
"Master, my name is Bruce Martha."
With blonde hair and blue eyes, she gave a slight aristocratic salute.
The next girl introduced herself.
"Master, my name is Kenneth Janney."
"Master, my name is Louise Alice."
"Master, my name is Hebrew Nell."
"Master, my name is Janice Gillian."
The five girls introduced themselves.
"Martha, Jenny, Alice, Nell, Gillian, right?" Charlotte confirmed.
"Yes, Master!" they responded in unison.
"Alright, from now on, follow me! You'll be my maids. My name is Rockefeller Charlotte, and you can call me 'Young Master' from now on," Charlotte said lightly.
"It's an honor, Young Master!" the five girls replied in unison.
Charlotte nodded in satisfaction. Having these five beautiful girls as maids wasn't a bad deal. Those who could be sold as slaves were certainly no common folk.
"Come with me," he ordered, turning towards the port.
As for the other prisoners, Charlotte didn't care. He wasn't their guardian. He wanted to live his life the way he chose.
