Chapter 5: Chapter 5: The Form of the Sea
A dozen plates of barbecue quickly filled Charlotte's stomach, but it wasn't long before they were all digested.
At that moment, hot white air began to rise from Charlotte's body, swirling above his head.
Ivan, who was observing and taking notes, was left stunned, his voice weakening involuntarily.
In fact, Charlotte wasn't paying attention to what Ivan said. He didn't care about an organization like the Wild Wolf Gang, which was insignificant to him, and only kept Ivan around to serve him better.
The maid came and went several times, and Charlotte finally felt full, with strength returning to his body.
He jumped out of his chair—his leap reaching more than ten meters high, and the speed was incredible.
Charlotte struck a large tree surrounded by six people with a punch.
Bang!
In an instant, the [10]-meter-long tree was split in half by Charlotte's fist.
"Ah!"
As the tree began to fall, the spot it was about to land on was exactly where the maids were standing. All of them turned pale with fear.
Seeing this, Charlotte kicked the tree to the side, sending it flying more than ten meters away.
Bang!
A cloud of dust rose in the distance.
Charlotte wasn't sure where his strength and explosive power stood in the pirate world.
After all, there is no official ranking system in One Piece. However, some fans had divided the levels among themselves in an online forum in a previous life.
From Miscellaneous Soldiers (with strength) → Colonel (can use some moves) → Brigadier General (proficient in six styles and more than two) → Major General (proficient in six styles and more than four, plus any one of the two-color Haki) → Lieutenant General (proficient in two-color Haki and covering the entire body) → Quasi-General = Shichibukai < Emperor's Deputy → General → Four Emperors.
Although this ranking system had been devised in the past, there were still many inconsistencies, so it can only be used as a rough reference.
Anyone who takes it too seriously is a fool.
After all, there's Lieutenant General Garp, who could be considered a monster even in his rank, and the likes of the overweight Moriah from the Shichibukai, or Mihawk, the "Eagle Eye," who competes daily with the Four Emperors.
There are many unreasonable aspects, so this ranking system is more of a suggestion than anything definite.
Another two years passed, and Charlotte was no longer in the mountains.
He had moved to the sea.
After learning how to swim, Charlotte practiced swordsmanship in the sea every day. He had read many novels where protagonists practiced sword techniques in the water.
Though Charlotte wasn't very skilled in swordsmanship, he had seen Zoro practice and remembered that a true swordsman can cut anything.
With this belief, Charlotte practiced wielding his sword by the seaside or even in the deep sea every day, repeating the same motions, striving to reach the state of being able to cut through anything.
"Huff!"
Charlotte climbed onto the shore. The ache in his body, coupled with the mental exhaustion, made it hard for him to calm down.
After each sword practice session, he felt restless and irritable, unable to settle his mind.
Four years had passed since his arrival in this world, and he was now 14 years old. In that time, he had trained diligently every day. His physique had reached the peak for his age, but growth was beginning to slow.
This was distressing for Charlotte, but if his body was slowing down, then sword practice would continue. After a year of practice, he figured he would have the same strength as Zoro when he first set out to sea.
However, he still couldn't achieve the sensation of cutting through everything.
Striking a stone with his sword left only a shallow mark, and the feeling of unrelenting progress was absent.
"Boss! Here's the sword you wanted!"
Seeing Charlotte approach, Ivan quickly handed over a towel and a basket filled with swords.
This was something Charlotte had asked Ivan to arrange. He spent so much time practicing swordsmanship now that he often broke his sword. So, he had instructed his subordinates to bring him new swords every few days.
This task was given to Ivan, who also reported on town developments and provided newspapers during this time.
"Anything significant happening recently?" Charlotte casually asked as he took the newspaper.
Upon opening it, Charlotte saw that the Rocks Pirates had destroyed a kingdom.
His pupils shrank as he saw the bounties listed. They were all characters from the anime of his previous life.
Rocks D. Xebec, the captain of the Rocks Pirates, with a bounty of 13 billion berries, had committed heinous crimes without regard for life or death. Edward Newgate, Whitebeard, the captain of the first division, had a bounty of 4 billion berries. He possessed the power of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit and was equally notorious. Shiki, the Golden Lion, leader of the second division, had a bounty of 9 billion berries. He wielded the power of the Flap-Flap Fruit and was also infamous. Charlotte Lingling, captain of the third division, with the Soul-Soul Fruit, had a bounty of 7 billion berries, equally heinous. John, captain of the fourth division, had a bounty of 6 billion berries, known for his cruel deeds. Wang Zhi, captain of the fifth division, was offered a bounty of 5 billion berries for his unforgivable crimes. Silver Axe, captain of the sixth division, carried a bounty of 3 billion berries. Heitan Muchan, captain of the seventh division, with the ability to imitate fruits, had a bounty of 2 billion berries. Vice-captain Heitan Chanwan, who possessed the power of the Shielding Fruit, had a bounty of 1 billion berries. Kaido, an intern with a bounty of 3 billion berries, was only to be captured alive.
The newspaper was filled with characters Charlotte recognized.
"Boss, over the past year, pirate activity has surged, all because of the Rocks Pirates. They've burned, killed, and looted everywhere in the second half of the Grand Line, which includes our territory. They've attacked world government alliance nations and naval branches.
Their base, Hive Island, is at the core of their operations, and even the Navy hasn't been able to stop them. The second half of the Grand Line is nearly under their control.
If the Navy doesn't intervene soon, our island could be in danger too!" Ivan said, visibly worried.
He was correct—their island was located near the middle of the second half of the Grand Line. While there was a nearby Navy G-8 branch, it was uncertain whether pirates would dare to attack.
After hearing this, Charlotte handed the newspaper back to Ivan.
"Don't worry too much. There's a naval branch nearby, and no pirate would dare to make a scene here. Just go ahead with your work and let me know if anything urgent arises!"
Charlotte waved his hand, dismissing Ivan's concerns.
Suddenly, an explosion erupted.
"What's happening?" Charlotte asked, looking toward the source of the noise.
A cloud of smoke rose from the distant port.
"Not good…"
A bad feeling surged in both of them at the same time.
"Let's go! We need to check it out!"
Charlotte sprinted toward the port.
As he ran, he activated his Observation Haki to scan his surroundings.
In an instant, the three-dimensional layout of the area appeared in Charlotte's mind.
"No, it's pirates!"
Charlotte noticed three pirate ships docked at the port through his Haki.
