Grand Line. Marine Headquarters
...
...
"Vice Admiral Garp!"
"Garp…"
"Grandpa!" Marines, Whitebeard Pirates, and even Luffy stared in shock.
"You won't get past me, Whitebeard!"
Garp, fists clenched, stood in mid-air before Whitebeard, propelled by Geppo. His knuckles were enveloped in a visible aura of powerful Armament Haki.
Whitebeard understood Garp's strength, but he wouldn't back down. With a fierce roar, he unleashed a devastating punch, initiating a furious exchange.
The shockwaves from their brief clash rippled across the island, threatening to tear Marineford apart.
BOOM!!!
In battles between titans, there was no room for error. Whitebeard, momentarily exposed, took a direct hit from Garp.
He coughed up blood, the sound of ribs cracking echoing in the air. A deep imprint of Garp's fist marked his chest. He was sent flying backward, crashing to the ground and skidding to a halt.
"Pops!!"
Marco and the other commanders cried out, their faces contorted in shock and concern. Whitebeard, thrown back several dozen meters, struggled to his feet, coughing up more blood.
He knelt, using his Naginata for support. Suddenly, Aokiji seized the opportunity, launching a barrage of ice towards the injured Whitebeard.
"I won't let you keep destroying everything…" Aokiji said coldly, but before he could finish, another voice intervened.
"Don't you dare interfere with a man trying to save his son!"
Crack! Crackle!
A powerful gale swept across the battlefield, shattering Aokiji's ice attack into countless fragments. An Air Cannon, similar to Kong's, sent Aokiji flying. Some of the pirates, witnessing this, were confused.
"Is that… Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionaries?"
It made sense. The Revolutionaries were enemies of the World Government.
And with the recent revelation that Luffy was Dragon's son and Sabo, the Revolutionary Army's second-in-command, was Luffy's sworn brother, it was logical that they would seize this opportunity to strike a blow against their enemy.
The situation was turning in their favor. With the Revolutionary Army's commanders engaging the Marine Vice Admirals and the Pacifistas, and with a Hormone user boosting the morale of the pirates and revolutionaries, the tide of the battle had shifted.
Crack!!
Aokiji was blasted into a shower of ice shards. He reformed, a trickle of blood escaping his lips, his expression grim. It seemed he was no match for Dragon's power.
"Well, well, Dragon. It's been decades!" Aokiji said, his ice clashing with Dragon's winds. "I remember us being on good terms. I understand your ideals a little better now."
"I'm honored," Dragon replied curtly.
"Garp! It's your damned family again!!!" Sengoku roared, taking advantage of Garp's momentary distraction. However, even with Dragon's help, time was running out.
Ace's execution was imminent.
Perhaps Dragon understood this as well. Saving Ace might be a secondary objective. His true goal was likely the downfall of the World Government. As long as it stood, countless individuals would suffer the same fate as Ace and Luffy.
He aimed to minimize casualties on both sides.
"Your body is failing you, old man. Even healed, you're still so fragile."
Garp's face was impassive as he faced Whitebeard. He couldn't bring himself to strike decisively against Ace or Luffy, but he had no such reservations about Whitebeard. He clenched his fists and advanced.
"You say my body is failing…?"
"You're sorely mistaken!"
Whitebeard roared, his voice echoing across Marineford. He unleashed the full power of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, a visible wave of destructive force erupting from his fist.
Garp's expression changed. He stopped, crossing his arms before him, bracing himself with Armament Haki to withstand Whitebeard's Quake Punch.
'Crack!!' The air shattered, cracks spreading outwards like a spiderweb.
Marineford fractured.
Under the force of Whitebeard's all-out attack, Marineford split in two, a gaping chasm opening in the earth.
"Pops!!" Marco and the others watched in shock, sensing something was different about Whitebeard's attack.
Whitebeard didn't turn. He stood tall, his Naginata planted firmly in the ground. "I am… a remnant of the old era. There is no ship in the new era that can carry me."
The scenes of the battle, projected onto giant screens in Sabaody Archipelago, were watched by countless citizens.
Rayleigh, standing beside Mihawk, paused, a flicker of emotion in his eyes. "Whitebeard… is about to become history."
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!!
The earth-shattering sounds of battle continued. Whitebeard's injuries worsened with each passing moment. His body grew heavier, his strength waning.
In a brief exchange with Garp and Sengoku, he sustained numerous wounds, his chest stained with blood. Yet, he stood defiant, blocking their advance.
"Pops…" Ace, on the execution platform, watched in despair as Whitebeard tried to break through, only to be repelled by Garp and Sengoku. His heart ached.
"Garp, I didn't expect you to be so resolute… Is your duty more important than family? No, Ace is my son!" Whitebeard muttered, glancing at Ace.
"That man… can he truly sacrifice his family for the sake of justice?" Akainu, also suspicious of Garp's resolve, watched the execution platform intently. No one could predict what would happen until the very last moment.
Three minutes… two minutes… finally, only one minute remained until the execution.
The two executioners stood ready, one on either side of Ace. Garp gritted his teeth, forcing himself to continue his battle with Whitebeard.
"It's no use. An execution… Do you Think I can't Stop it?!!!!" Whitebeard roared, looking past Garp towards the platform. He took a deep breath, stomping his foot on the ground.
He unleashed the full, unrestrained power of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, not aiming at Garp, but at the entire area, trying to disrupt the execution.
But in that instant, Garp and Sengoku also stomped their feet. A shockwave radiated from the execution platform, stabilizing it against the tremors.
"Is Fire Fist going to die?!"
Marines, pirates, and citizens watching across the world held their breath, their eyes glued to the execution platform.
Whitebeard roared in frustration, trying to break through. Jozu and the others, heedless of their own safety, charged towards the platform, clashing with Aokiji and Akainu.
Countless eyes were fixed on the platform. The two executioners, beads of sweat dripping from their brows, raised their spears.
Ace closed his eyes. "To think that someone like me, could have such a family."
Garp closed his eyes as well. "Ace, at least you won't have to worry about your heritage anymore."
Shhh!!
Before the eyes of the world, the two spears plunged into Ace, piercing his body.
"Is Fire Fist Ace… dead?!"
"The Whitebeard couldn't save him. Evil pirates will be eradicated!"
"The Marines are victorious! Justice prevails!"
Civilians who had suffered under pirate oppression cheered, their voices filled with relief and hope. They saw a future where the Marines would bring light to every corner of the world, dispelling the darkness.
But…
This was not the end. It was only the beginning.
"ACE!!!!"
A heart-wrenching scream echoed across the battlefield. The Whitebeard Pirates stared at the execution platform, their eyes wide with disbelief and horror.
"You bastard Marines! I'll kill you all! Avenge Ace!!"
Rage consumed them. Marco, Jozu, Oars Jr., Yamato, and the others unleashed their full power, heedless of the consequences.
Whitebeard's Conqueror's Haki erupted, a physical manifestation of his fury. Even though he wasn't the Pirate King, in this moment, he was the undisputed ruler of the seas.
His rage was palpable, his will to fight unyielding. He had been unable to use his full strength earlier, held back by the need to protect Ace and the execution platform. But now… he had nothing left to lose.
"Marines, you will pay for my son's death!"
He unleashed the full might of the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, aiming at Garp and Sengoku. The force of the attack, if it landed, could shatter Marineford itself.
"…"
Whitebeard gripped his Naginata, preparing to deliver the final blow of his life. But then, he paused, his eyes flickering towards the rear of Marineford. Marco and the others, sensing something, also turned, their faces contorted in rage and disbelief.
"Teach!!!!"
The Whitebeard Pirates roared in unison. Garp and Sengoku ceased their attacks, turning to see Blackbeard and his crew approaching.
"Zehahaha, it's about to end, isn't it, Oyaji?" Blackbeard grinned, his arms outstretched. Whitebeard glared at him, his eyes burning with fury.
His injured body, fueled by rage, seemed to regain some of its lost vitality. He charged past Garp and Sengoku, heading straight for Blackbeard.
"…"
Garp and Sengoku didn't stop him. Blackbeard was now their enemy as well. They wouldn't interfere in this fight. But neither would they leave. They watched intently.
"Teach!" Whitebeard bellowed.
"Zehahaha, what a fun war this is! I think I'll join in!" Blackbeard laughed, his crew spreading out behind him. He had finally arrived, ready to reap the rewards of the chaos.
Whitebeard roared again, turning to face Blackbeard. His rage towards Teach far surpassed his anger towards Garp, Sengoku, or any of the Marines.
To Blackbeard, Whitebeard's eyes were filled with pure, unadulterated killing intent. It was because of this man that the Whitebeard Pirates and the Marines had come to this.
His killing intent soared.
"Zehahaha… Oyaji, how much longer can you last in that state? You've suddenly gotten a lot stronger, but that can't be without a price."
"I once truly respected and admired you. But you're old now, and today you will die here! In that case, I might as well be the one to send you off!"
Blackbeard halted, grinning at Whitebeard.
"You bastard!"
Whitebeard glared at Blackbeard, charging towards him. But his attack was in vain.
If he were in his prime, he might have been able to defeat Blackbeard before he acquired the Dark-Dark Fruit, along with the rest of his crew.
But now, his ravaged body was simply no match for the Blackbeard Pirates.
Blackbeard's crew, revitalized and ready for battle, launched a coordinated attack. Whitebeard's body, pushed to its limit, finally gave out. His movements slowed, his strength faded.
His breath stilled.
The sounds of Marco's anguished cries, the roar of the battlefield, Blackbeard's mocking laughter… all faded into a dull murmur, then silence.
His vision blurred, the world around him dissolving into a formless white void.
Is this… the world after death?
