Chapter 2: 2: Welcome
Sora's eyes slowly opened taking in nothing but a white blurry mess, it took a while for Sora's eyes to focus with how long they were closed. When his eyes finally got used to being open, the first thing he saw was an unfamiliar white ceiling. He tried to sit up, but he was too tired to move. So, he turned his head, and saw a row of beds. He then realized, he was in an infirmary.
"I guess someone found me?" Sora wondered aloud to himself.
Sora quietly sighed to himself as he did the only thing his body allowed him to.....stare at the ceiling. Eventually, Sora had enough and forced himself to go back to sleep.
~A While Later~
A few hours later, Sora's eyes slowly opened, taking in the sight of a woman standing over him.
"Oh my, you woke up. My apologies for disturbing your sleep." She mused as she lowered herself to a seat on the right side of the bed.
"So, what's your name, cutie?" She asked with a smile, her deep violet eyes gave the feeling that they looked through him instead of at him.
Sora didn't like the way her eyes felt like they stared into his soul, but it didn't feel hostile. So Sora quietly answered. "It's Sora..."
"Like the sky?" She mused. "How adorable!" She exclaimed excitedly as she pulled Sora into a hug.
Sora took note that she was quite the voluptuous woman. Not that he cared all that much, it was just the observation of a doctor.
The Infirmary door opened, catching the attention of Sora and the doctor.
"Nemu, I thought I told you to notify me as soon as he woke up." A feminine voice scolded in a stern tone.
Nemu flinched slightly when she heard the voice, she quickly pulled out of the hug and turned to face the visiter.
"Vice Admiral Tsuru!?" She exclaimed nervously.
"I totally forgot to tell you, didn't I...." She mused with a nervous giggle.
"Well anyway. Give me a report Nemu." Tsuru said as she grabbed a chair and sat down.
Nemu nodded as she grabbed her clipboard from her desk and handed it to Tsuru.
"Well, he had no injuries, only extremely exhausted." She recited what was written in clipboard, she had memorized all the information on it.
"No injuries? When we found him, he was covered in blood. If it wasn't his, then whose blood was it?" Tsuru looked up from the clipboard and stared at Sora.
"So, tell me young one, why were you covered in blood that wasn't your own? How did an entire town go extinct overnight?" Tsuru asked as she stood and walked over to Sora.
Sora gulped nervously, he knew he was innocent, but the whole situation did sound strange.
"Pirates raided my home, my mother died in my hands. All the blood that was on me...belonged to her." Sora's heart hurt as he recounted what happened during that day.
"Right... I'm sorry to hear that." Tsuru bowed her head slightly then looked back up at Sora.
"I'm guessing you fainted from overexertion because you buried everyone in your town?" Tsuru asked. She came to this conclusion through various clues she put together. 1. Sora was covered in dirt, way more dirt then one would be covered in if they just simply fell in the mud. 2. All of the towns people were buried, and pirates don't seem like to type to raid a town and bury their victims. 3. He passed out with a shovel in his hands and buried his mother.
"Yeah, I buried them all. They were like family to me. I'd see them almost everyday." A small smile grew on Sora's face as he remembered them all. But, as quickly as the smile grew, it faded. Thinking about them brought him back to seeing them all get slaughtered by pirates.
Tsuru stood up and handed the clipboard back to Nemu, then she turned to Sora.
"Think you can walk?" Tsuru asked as walked toward the door.
Sora scooted toward the edge of the bed and jumped down. He stumbled a little as he hasn't walked for days, but quickly found his balance.
"I can." Sora put on a pair of slippers he found beside his bed and followed Tsuru out of the Infirmary.
"So...what are you gonna do now?" Tsuru looked forward as she asked.
"I..." Sora paused, his scarlet eyes seemed glow with anger as he scowled. "I want revenge, I hate them for what they did. I want to kill them but...I also want to continue being a doctor. I." Sora said.
Silence carried over the rest of their walk, and soon enough they were on the deck of the ship, looking at the setting sun over the sea.
At that moment, Tsuru turned to Sora. "How about you join the Marines. You can become a doctor for the marines, and we'll make you strong enough to get your revenge...although, personally I wouldn't recommend focusing on revenge too much...don't let that goal become an unhealthy obsession."
Sora thought about it. It's not a bad offer, he could focus on his medical studies while he trained for his revenge. Sora didn't hate pirates, he hated the pirates that destroyed his home...the pirates that killed his mother.
"I'll join the marines, but like you said, my main focus will be my doctor work." Sora's hair glistened by the light of the setting sun and flowed in the wind. His scarlet eyes sparkled gently as he turned to Tsuru.
Tsuru turned to Sora and held out her hand. Sora held out his as well, accepting the handshake. "Well, let me be the first to officially welcome you into the marines, Ensign Sora."
To Be Continued...
