Chapter 159: Kaguya vs Mikoto 2
The Susanoo of Mikoto moved with surprising agility for its size. Shin Yari sliced through the air, creating arcs of golden energy that deflected some of the fists. Others struck the armor directly, causing titanic explosions with each impact.
"You think you can break me with that?" Mikoto exclaimed, guiding her Susanoo to dodge and counter.
The Susanoo pivoted, its lance piercing the air like lightning. The golden tip split the wave of fists, creating an opening. Mikoto seized the moment, advancing with her Susanoo striking the lance as if it were an extension of her body.
Kaguya dodged with a fluid movement, disappearing into a spatial fissure and reappearing behind the Susanoo. Her massive fists crashed against the armor, causing cracks that spread like spiderwebs.
Mikoto pivoted swiftly, countering with a circular motion of the lance that forced Kaguya to retreat.
Guided by her Mangekyo Sharingan, Mikoto anticipated every move of Kaguya. The Shin Yari lance danced in the air, drawing luminous arcs and repelling the chakra fists.
At a critical moment, Mikoto channeled an enormous amount of chakra into the lance. The Susanoo planted Shin Yari into the ground, triggering a flame explosion that swept away the chakra fists and forced Kaguya to retreat even further.
Kaguya, for the first time, seemed irritated.
"Insolent," she murmured, before summoning another wave of fists, this time enhanced with a blend of Yin-Yang Release.
Kaguya's attacks became even more brutal. Each fist struck with a force capable of shaking mountains, and Mikoto's Susanoo began to show signs of fatigue. Golden sparks of chakra escaped from the cracks in the armor, and Mikoto herself felt the growing pressure on her body.
"I won't hold out forever," she murmured to herself.
But she refused to give up. Her Susanoo raised the lance once more, spinning it with incredible speed. The rotation created a golden vortex that absorbed and redirected some of Kaguya's fists, disrupting their rhythm.
Seizing this opportunity, Mikoto propelled her Susanoo forward with a colossal leap. The lance descended in a vertical attack, aiming directly at Kaguya.
The tip of Shin Yari struck the ground where Kaguya had been. A colossal flame explosion enveloped the area, raising a cloud of dust and debris. Mikoto, breathless, observed the surroundings through the cracks in her shattered mask.
But a silhouette emerged from the rubble. Kaguya, though injured, still stood, her gaze more deadly than ever. And then she healed as if nothing had happened.
"You're just a mere human," she said in a frigid voice.
Mikoto felt her chakra rapidly depleting. Maintaining the perfect Susanoo demanded titanic energy, and she had reached her limits. But she couldn't retreat. Not now.
Kaguya, on the other hand, seemed almost indefatigable. She summoned her chakra fists once more, this time with an intensity that surpassed anything she had shown so far.
Mikoto's Susanoo was overwhelmed. Each blow shook the golden entity, and eventually, a particularly powerful strike shattered the outer armor of the Susanoo, leaving Mikoto vulnerable.
Her perfect Susanoo, immense and imposing, still stood, but its bones were cracking under Kaguya's relentless strikes. Each blow resonated like a funeral knell, gradually reducing Mikoto's defenses.
Mikoto panted beneath her shattered mask. Her breath was raspy, her body covered in injuries. Bone spikes had pierced her chakra armor and penetrated her flesh, blood flowing and staining her attire and the ground beneath her.
"I thought I was stronger than you," she murmured, her gaze fixed on Kaguya with a mix of defiance and exhaustion.
Kaguya, floating above the ground, stared at Mikoto with her cold and impassive eyes.
"Your arrogance has been your downfall," she said in a frigid tone.
Mikoto took a step forward, her Susanoo advancing in echo. The bones of the Susanoo were visible, the aura that covered it fading. Yet, she refused to yield.
...
Finally, the Susanoo collapsed. The last barrier between Mikoto and Kaguya disappeared in an explosion of light and dust. Mikoto was thrown backward, her body crashing violently against the ground.
From Mikoto's perspective, Neji's gaze, piercing and unwavering, seemed fixed on her, beyond the battlefield. But he refused to help, and at that moment, he could have been a valuable aid, as he could use a small amount of natural energy thanks to Jugo's DNA. The slug hermit, on the other hand, seemed to savor every moment of her defeat, almost sadistically, as she had never liked Mikoto.
She thought of Shikai and his warnings. Her arrogance had blinded her, and now she faced her inevitable defeat.
"It's over," she murmured to herself, feeling fatigue overwhelm her. Her eyes returned to normal.
But suddenly, a sound rang out. A crack.
The very sky seemed to tear apart. A luminous fissure appeared, shining with an ethereal light. The energy emanating from it was different from anything Mikoto or Kaguya had felt before.
Kaguya turned her head towards the source of this disruption, her eyes squinting under the intensity of the light.
Mikoto, still lying down, squinted to try and make out what was happening.
