My Power to Ignore Enemy Abilities Lets Me Rule Another World

Chapter 18: Now is the perfect moment for the protagonist to awaken!

Actually, this wasn't the first time I've been in a desperate situation.

In my memory, on that day six years ago, I came unimaginably close to death.

***

"Impossible! Impossible! No such being exists in this world! How can both physical attacks and special abilities be ineffective against you!?"

The elderly man with purple hair, his body covered in wounds, screamed incessantly at the boy standing before him, attempting to mask his escalating fear.

But it was futile. As a flash of white light sliced through the air, the man's head fell to the ground.

Blood poured from the severed neck, yet the "boy" responsible for it all remained utterly indifferent.

"I've told you so many times: don't interfere with my daily life."

The boy, only 14 years old, was unnervingly calm even after taking a life, defying all common sense.

After wiping the blood from his short sword and neatly tucking it into his backpack, the boy resumed his journey home.

"This is the 24th attack today. Adding this to the previous ones makes it the 114,514th time…"

Again and again, he had fought different opponents, and every single time, he had emerged victorious without exception.

These opponents had all sorts of abilities and methods—some could manipulate physical elements, others could possess bodies, and there were even those who could stop time. Yet none of their powers worked against him.

The process was always the same: an encounter, the opponent unleashing their abilities, realizing they were useless, and finally, being killed by the boy.

Without exception.

The bodies? No need to worry about those—they would disappear by themselves the next day, leaving no trace behind.

Neither physical attacks nor special abilities could faze the boy, who could "nullify" and retaliate against everything.

In short, the boy was capable of negating the very existence of any kind of "rules," not limited to just organic beings.

Even the properties of inorganic matter were rendered irrelevant to him.

Because of this, no alarm had ever rung in his heart; no enemy had ever posed a threat to him.

Deep down, he held a firm belief that fighting was inherently meaningless. He just wanted to live his life in peace.

But that belief was about to change.

By the woman standing behind him, who had just stabbed through his heart.

"Gah…!?"

A bone-chilling cold spread throughout his body as the boy distinctly felt his life slipping away.

He tried to turn around and fight back but found he had lost the strength to move.

Even just catching a glimpse would be enough. Struggling, he forced his head to turn—

But in that instant, all his senses shut down completely.

He couldn't hear, couldn't see, couldn't smell. Even touch had abandoned him. The boy had lost all connection to the outside world.

It was as though everything about him was being negated, forcibly rendered "null."

This was a situation he had never experienced before. He was about to lose even the ability to think.

"I don't want to call you a failure, since you're still a part of me."

The woman spoke words the boy couldn't hear. No one knew her true intentions, but it didn't matter.

The boy was about to die at her hands. That was the inevitable reality of the moment.

He wouldn't even know what his killer looked like or understand how he died.

And just like that, the boy completely lost consciousness.

When he regained awareness, it was on a day when he was 19 years old.

That's right—the boy hadn't died after all. He had survived.

Though everything had progressed inexplicably, life had to go on.

The boy's ability to nullify his enemies' "rules" remained, but it had weakened significantly.

He continued fighting daily, though the frequency of ambushes had dropped considerably.

These changes all stemmed from that near-death experience.

Thinking about this, my thoughts began to clear.

The scene shifted to a dark void.

Before me floated four glowing pink stars. One of them shone especially bright, while the remaining three were dim.

I reached out to touch the second star. The moment my hand made contact, its light grew even brighter than the first star, enveloping me completely—

—My mind snapped back to reality.

Before I could react, a powerful elbow strike slammed into my face.

The terrifying force shattered the ground beneath me, sending up a cloud of dust accompanied by raucous laughter.

"Hahaha!!! I thought you might be a decent fighter, but it seems you're just this weak!"

As the dust settled, my body, heavily damaged and immobile, lay crumpled on the ground.

"Well then! Time to rendezvous with *Horror*! It seems our combo technique works pretty well! Hahaha!!"

Oh? So there's an accomplice too.

"I have to thank you, Tadokoro Kozo. You've reminded me of something important."

I appeared behind him, brushing the dust off my clothes as I approached.

Realizing something was amiss, Tadokoro Kozo quickly turned and leapt back, his face filled with disbelief.

"Now it's my turn."
