Chapter 8: Chapter 8 Held by a Stranger Man
Fu Shilv, that dog, really lost interest in touching her after her ovulation period had passed.
"Sheng Youxia, can't you smell the alcohol on yourself?"
Sheng Youxia lifted her arm to her nose and took a light sniff; the woman he liked probably adored strawberry milk, pure and sweet.
She sat at the bedside for a while; it was hard to voice it, but she still wanted to try.
"Do you have time next Tuesday?"
"What for?"
Sheng Youxia had always wanted to go see fireworks with him. She had longed for it before, but now even more so, worried that one day she might go blind.
"There's a big three-day event at Nan Lake every year. I want to join in the fun."
However, Fu Shilv didn't like such events, crowded with people to the point you couldn't even walk, what was fun about that?
"I'm booked up with surgeries those days, and I have to work overtime in the evening."
This response was entirely within Sheng Youxia's expectations, but what she wanted was simple.
She just wanted to take a photo with him when the fireworks bloomed, even if he was only humoring her.
She didn't want to wait until she was blind and had nothing left.
"Just take a break, even thirty minutes will do."
Fu Shilv noticed something off about her expression, "Let's talk about it when the time comes."
Sheng Youxia took that as a 'yes', her eyes gradually brightening. "Okay."

Come that Tuesday, Sheng Youxia messaged Fu Shilv, reminding him not to forget their agreement for the day.
But by evening, she still had received no reply from Fu Shilv.
Tang Hui came by car to pick her up, and just before boarding, Sheng Youxia gave him a call.
However, it wasn't him on the other line, "Hello, Mr. Fu has a surgery and hasn't finished yet. If it's urgent, I'll have him call you back later."
Sheng Youxia said it wasn't necessary, "Just remind him to check his WeChat."
"Okay."
She got into Tang Hui's car; Tang Hui had dyed her hair pink.
Sheng Youxia stared at it for a few moments, and Tang Hui, seeing her reflection in the rearview mirror, looked annoyed, "Does it really look that bad? My mom almost broke my legs over it."
"No, it looks great, makes me want to dye mine too."
Tang Hui lifted a lock of her hair, "Really?"
Sheng Youxia leaned back in her seat, a hint of envy in her eyes, "Don't worry about what others think. I'm even considering dyeing mine green."
Tang Hui couldn't hold back a snicker, but then saw the look of desolation on Sheng Youxia's face.
"Where's Fu Shilv? Isn't he available?"
"I just called him, still in surgery, but he promised last week; he should be on his way here soon."
Tang Hui started the car, Fu Gou's words, just listen to them, they didn't count for much.
Both sides of Nan Lake were already surrounded by people, mostly couples. The night breeze stirred the chill of the lake, biting at the skin.
Tang Hui pulled Sheng Youxia into the crowd, "Too bad we couldn't get tickets for the cruise, otherwise we could've gone up to Ming Zhu Tower to watch the fireworks."
Sheng Youxia was distracted, constantly checking her phone.
As it passed nine o'clock, the night turned colder; Sheng Youxia stood by the river, her knees freezing cold.
She couldn't hide the disappointment in her eyes; there wasn't a single message from him on her phone.
"Look, the cruise ship!" Tang Hui nudged her arm.
Sheng Youxia lifted her gaze gently; the waters of Nan Lake suddenly quieted as if at peace, a cruise ship breaking through the surface and drawing near.
The distance wasn't too far, and Sheng Youxia, without her eye ailment, had astonishing vision; she could see a familiar figure at first glance.
The sightseeing cruise moved especially slowly, and the spot where Sheng Youxia stood was a scenic point; she watched the ship approach and come to a halt.
Tang Hui was about to mention the fireworks were about to start, but when she turned to Sheng Youxia, she saw her pale as paper. "Xiaxia?"
Sheng Youxia's pupils reflected a tall and upright figure; she blinked hard, she hadn't mistaken him - it was Fu Shilv, who was supposed to be working overtime at the hospital.
A petite figure stood by his side, wrapped in a houndstooth scarf, half her face exposed.
At that moment, Sheng Youxia wished she were already blind.
She lifted her eyes further and saw Ji Xingtang and his friends, each with a female companion, what a lively scene.
So, not only had Fu Shilv brought Liang Nianwei out, but he had also introduced her to his friends.
He had completely forgotten the promise he made to Sheng Youxia. The cruise ship she couldn't get a ticket for was actually booked by him.
Tang Hui narrowed her eyes and blurted out, "Fuck his mother!"
She looked around for something, noticing a water bottle in the hands of a stranger nearby; she snatched it and flung it towards the deck.
"Fu Shilv, fuck your grandfather!"
Surrounded by voices, her cursing was drowned out.
But the water bottle smashed right at Liang Nianwei's feet, and she, being blind, flinched at the sound like a startled bird.
She instinctively dodged to the side, bumping into Fu Shilv. To Sheng Youxia, his motion seemed like he was pulling Liang Nianwei into his embrace.
"What's wrong?" Liang Nianwei asked anxiously, clutching her hands, her face all panic.
Fu Shilv looked over, locking eyes with Sheng Youxia just a few meters away; he squinted slightly, his tone indifferent.
"It's nothing, just something accidentally dropped from above."
Liang Nianwei stood by Fu Shilv's side, dressed so simply and plainly, the edges of her little white shoes turning yellow.
She stood straight, only reaching up to Fu Shilv's chest; her eyes, unsettled, scanned the surroundings. She even moved away from Fu Shilv's hand, standing a bit to the side.
"Idiot!" Tang Hui almost wanted to jump into the river and climb onto the cruise ship. Sheng Youxia came back to her senses and grabbed her, "You can't swim."
She was really out of her mind.
Tang Hui kept pointing and swearing at the ship, but no one on board could hear a thing.
Sheng Youxia watched Fu Shilv's indifferent posture; had he really forgotten their agreement, or did he not care at all? Was she still waiting for him?
Sheng Youxia stood there, her heart being ruthlessly crushed and then torn apart, entirely unprepared.
Tang Hui's lips trembled with anger. She looked beside her, the man whose water she had stolen was watching them.
Forcing herself to calm down, Tang Hui put on a falsely pleasant face, "Handsome, can you help us out?"
"How can I help?"
Tang Hui moved closer to him and whispered a few words.
On the cruise ship, Liang Nianwei turned her head to Fu Shilv and asked, "Dr. Fu, is someone cursing at us?"
"No," Fu Shilv replied succinctly, "you heard wrong."
His gaze, just about to move away from Sheng Youxia, caught sight of a man's arm lifting up, wrapping around her shoulders.
He even pulled her a bit closer to himself.
And Sheng Youxia, she didn't refuse!
