Chapter 23
Chapter 23. Tent Life Begins, For Now
There’s no point in staying here forever. The sun has already set, and it’s getting dim.
“Anyway, please just keep this luggage for me. As for the house, I’ll think about it a bit more.”
“Sure, sure.”
I leave what I can in the prefab storage and immediately head to the other world by car.
As soon as I pass through the tunnel, it’s pitch black, and the car’s headlights stretch straight ahead.
“Hey, no beasts are gonna suddenly jump out, right?”
Leaning forward, I grip the steering wheel and stare straight ahead until I finally reach an open area.
It’s been a while since I’ve been to this campsite. I park the car near the entrance road. Since it’s completely dark, I leave the car’s headlights on.
“Ah, the toilet and bathhouse are gone, huh~”
From here on out, I guess I’ll have to rely on my own KP to get by.
“Ugh~, I can’t tell if Ignus-sama is being kind or strict~”
I get out of the car and unload all the camping gear. I could sleep in the car, but since I’ve come all this way, it’d be a waste not to set up the tent.
I quickly set up the tent. Maybe because I’m used to solo camping, I’ve gotten much faster at setting it up. I wouldn’t say I’m a pro, but I’ve definitely become a decent camper, haven’t I?
“Next, the campfire, the campfire~”
I have a bundle of firewood I bought from a local home center. From now on, I’ll have to thin out the surrounding trees and turn them into firewood. I can’t afford to spend extra money.
Once the campfire is lit, I finally take a breather.
I look around and gaze up at the sky, where an incredible starry expanse, unseen in the city, stretches out.
“Whoa~”
Are the constellations in this sky the same as over there? Or are they different, since this is another world?
Growl~
My stomach, honest as ever, interrupts my cool thoughts.
“More importantly, food!”
I set up a mini-stove on the mini-table, light a solid fuel tablet, and pour water into the cooker. I don’t have the energy to cook, so it’s cup noodles tonight.
While waiting for the water to boil, I take out… a canned chu-hai from the cooler.
“Hehe, I’ll drink this before dinner.”
I place my hands on my hips, take a few sips, and let out a satisfied sigh.
“Haha, is this where I’ll be living now?”
The chirping of insects fills the air, making me wonder if this really is another world.
The water starts bubbling, so I take it off the fire and pour it into the cup noodles. Today’s flavor is miso.
“Phew, hot, hot!”
I slurp the noodles noisily.
Maybe it’s because I’m eating outside, but it tastes even better than usual.
“Ahhh~”
I’m free from work, troublesome relatives, and my ex-boyfriend. No one’s interfering with me.
――I’m free.
I might face hardships in a different way, but right now, I feel happy.
“Tomorrow, I’ll stop by the local office to submit my change of address while I’m out shopping.”
Even though this is supposed to be another world, I’m going through the usual moving procedures.
The thought makes me laugh out loud.
