Chapter 40 Battle on the Lake_3
```
After several exchanges, the Da Tang Goose began to fall behind. Although the Crested Jay was smaller in size, fighting against three on its own was still too much of a disadvantage.
"Can't help it anymore," the chubby student nodded as he watched the battle unfold above the lake and then gave instructions.
Soon, during another clash, the Da Tang Goose opened its beak once more. Just as the three Crested Jays thought it was about to use sonic attack and dodged, several fiery red shadows flew out from its mouth, attacking the three Crested Jays that were only an arm's reach away.
Natural Sequence 3: Fire Spine Chickadee, predominantly red with greyish-black plumage. About the size of a thumb, but very fast, with sharp black beaks.
Suddenly attacked by over a dozen Fire Spine Chickadees, the Crested Jays were thrown into disarray, and their wings were set ablaze by the Chickadees' high-temperature flames. For a moment, the Da Tang Goose seized the opportunity to pull one into the water and devour it.
"Spread out!" In a moment of urgency, the slender tall student across shouted his command. The two remaining Crested Jays scattered, skimming over the water's surface, stirring up droplets to extinguish the smoldering flames on their bodies.
They soared against the wind once again, but the Fire Spine Chickadees could not keep up and were quickly left behind.
After ascending to the high skies, the two black and white Crested Jays took a brief respite, then dove down again. Without the element of surprise, the airborne dozen of Fire Spine Chickadees were swept away by the silver feathers, falling down like stones with some even sliced, leaving trails of blood.
Indeed, this was the result of the Crested Jays holding back their power. After all, being Sequence 4 and highly offensive members of the Slashing Blade Sequence, had they exerted full force, those Fire Spine Chickadees would have certainly been killed on the spot.
With the loss of their tiny squadron's support, the slow-flying Da Tang Goose was left to battle alone. Though tenacious, it couldn't withstand the repeated high-speed slashings from above and was ultimately forced to take to the water for refuge, leaving the Crested Jays with few options in the air.
A series of air-tearing blades plunged into the water, causing splashes, but quickly dissipated, hardly inflicting any damage to the resilient Da Tang Goose.
"So, it's come to this again," the slender, tall student shook his head. He had thought the chubby student would show more spirit and develop new Transcendent animals and tactics.
"It's another draw," they finally had to call off this impromptu battle and went their separate ways.
The recent battle had unknowingly drawn quite a crowd of onlookers. As the two main contestants left, various discussions started to circulate among them.
"That's the fourth-year students, Zhe Hao (the tall one) and Anbot (the chubby one). They have been rivals for a long time."
"Zhe Hao is really impressive; he's already bred five black and white Crested Jays,"
"I heard he selected over 500 suitable eggs for hatching, and although most of the hatched Crested Jays were Transcendent creatures, the majority stopped advancing at Sequence 2, with only a small number reaching Sequence 3. Then, out of forty-plus Sequence 3s, he managed to breed five Sequence 4s. If one of these five manages to advance to Sequence 5 before graduation, he will be able to obtain his Breeder certification."
"40 to 5, that's a high success rate; no wonder so many teachers have high hopes for him."
"That's the life of a Breeder. Behind every powerful Transcendent companion is the elimination of countless others. If every one they raised could advance, that person would undoubtedly go down in history."
"Are you ready to become the strongest 'Bird Tamer,' the son of the Wind Kite who conquers the sky?"
"I'm ready!" Having said that, a few first-year students, elated and chest-thumping, ran towards the distance, full of noise and excitement.
The distant sound of laughter made Hexia and Agnes, who were sitting by the lake, smile. While they weren't going to go mad or get caught up in their own fantasy like the children, a wave of anticipation and prospect rose in their hearts.
What kind of powerful partners will they breed in the future?
The human world is overly complex, and the more prosperous a society is, the lonelier it can make people feel. After the loss of the Fifth Epoch, many people began to fancy the idea of simple-minded and loyal animal companions. They initially became helpers at work, and later company in life, providing solace for some lonely souls to carry on.
For various reasons like these, the once overlooked profession of Breeders saw rapid development in the Sixth Era. With countless manpower and technical research pouring in, this once abandoned path slowly widened, and the belief system of the 'Tree of Life Sect' spread gradually throughout the Federation.
Even though the Twilight Era had long passed, the major factions born from that period still existed, passing on their spirit and will. To this day, countless inheritors continue to contest and debate with one another, arguing over the true path of human civilization.
Embodying the will of the 'Mechanical Council,' the Sigma Council consisted of AI, machines, electronics, and synthetic humans.
Inheriting the 'Deep Sea Alliance' lineage, the nomadic fleet appeared and disappeared in deep space, stateless yet ubiquitous across the Milky Way and even stepping into the unknown beyond.
The followers of 'Concealment,' 'Pursuit of the Clouds,' kept a low profile among various nations and species, serving as chroniclers.
The inheritors of the 'Heart of the Primordial,' relied on mental connections and unity, forming a robust political entity known as the Holy White Melody.
And representing the spirit of the 'Tree of Life Sect,' the Rose Federation boasted the greatest diversity of species, the broadest Star Domain, and the most possibilities.
The children of the ancient Earth, after leaving their cradle, once again took different paths, heading toward their own destinies.
