Chapter 13: Dreamlike Azure_2
"Please come in," the maid Aiko beckoned her, then opened the door. The bedroom was spacious, with the bed draped in light gauze looking a bit cozy in the gentle night breeze.
"Thank you, you can go rest as well, no need to stand guard outside tonight," she said.
"Yes, Miss," Aiko curtsied and then withdrew.
She really was obedient. The girl had thought that the maid might demur, but it seemed she had been overthinking things.
In the night, the hazy moonlight filtered through the glass window, spilling into the room, Hexia slept somewhat sweetly, no longer waking intermittently as she used to. Perhaps she hadn't realized that she seldom dreamt about her sister and mother anymore. Maybe it was only now that she truly let go of those grey memories, gradually emerging from that dark house to reveal her own colors.
The next day, the girl awoke to birdsong and morning light.
Still feeling a bit sleepy, she didn't want to get out of bed, Hexia thought as she lay there. Enjoy more content from empire
After dawdling for a bit, she checked the time—it was almost eight—then slowly sat up, her hair tousled from being pressed down.
After briefly grooming her hair, she stepped out of the bedroom to wash her face and discovered that maids were already waiting for her outside the door. Reassuringly, they weren't the ones from last night, but a new pair.
"Good morning, Miss," they said.
"Morning~"
"Would you like to freshen up? Please follow me," one said.
Hexia was then led to the washroom at the end of the hallway, where two maids helped her with towels, a toothbrush, and such. Then, they returned to the bedroom with her to help arrange her hair and dress her in a skirt.
More than ten minutes later, when Hexia came downstairs, she found Annelli already waiting for her, with breakfast prepared on the table—she wondered when they had readied everything.
Upon inquiring, Hexia learned that the maids in the house were divided into four groups, with roughly three groups rotating and one on standby.
Such luxury, Hexia thought. These maids were quite fair in appearance, and each had at least Rank 3 Sequence strength, which was indeed impressive.
"Today, I will take Tilan to visit Edith Academy," Annelli suggested.
Of course, Hexia had no objections, so for the next two days, she was essentially led by Annelli around the campus, becoming gradually familiar with the academy.
Compared to Yuanting Academy, Edith Academy was undoubtedly more luxurious, not just in its variety of facilities and environments and the application of high technology, but also in the ample staffing provided.
Furthermore, the school's classes were broadly divided into two types: mandatory courses, where students were required to attend, and elective courses, where students could seek out teachers in the classrooms anytime to study. Each subject had dedicated teachers and classrooms available 24 hours to satisfy the students' desire for learning at any time.
"This arrangement considers that some students have many obligations and can't be present for every class, allowing for much more flexibility in scheduling," Annelli explained.
For example, the "Aijieka Intermediate Theory" course, which is mostly theoretical, doesn't require all students to attend together; you only need to complete the first four sessions required within the first month after school starts and pick when to learn on your own—a typical elective course.
But the "Transcendent Profession Combat" course involves practical training, generally alternating between a theory class and a practical session, requiring student attendance. This also became the class where classmates met each other the most.
Similar cases were numerous, with about three-quarters of the courses being elective and the remaining quarter being mandatory, focusing on Fridays and Saturdays.
"The reason why there are classes on Saturday is, of course, because many students are busy with other matters on weekdays," said Annelli, holding Hexia's hand as she explained.
"For example, 'Lilim Tongxin,' a recently popular actress from the Four-leaf Crystal Star Domain, is a new student at our Edith Academy. She needs to travel frequently for shows and can only spare two days a week for the academy."
"And there's the heir to the Grey Fox Group, Hapleton, whose father recently had an accident and is hospitalized, so there are a lot of matters he needs to handle within the company, and thus he doesn't spend much time on campus."
"Additionally, some students love to travel and often fly around; getting them to stay at school every day would be unbearable for them."
"Ordinary students must attend classes at specific times to conserve teachers and resources, but Edith Academy is not lacking in teachers or resources such as classrooms. Thus, we don't enforce such restrictions. Instead, because there may be only 4-5 students around you in class, teachers can devote more energy and attention to you, yielding better educational outcomes," she explained.
So that was what a wealthy and resourceful academy looked like, Hexia mused.
The two days of adapting to the environment quietly passed, and on the third day came the opening ceremony, an event all the new students were obliged to attend.

In the spacious interior with its impeccably clean floor, black curtains on both sides adorned with deep blue rose knots, roughly 1000 students stood on the open ground below. They hailed from various places in the Four-leaf Crystal Star Domain, including geniuses from the northern and southern regions of Jade Skirt, peers from other Stellar System Space Stations, and even students from another inhabitable planet seeking education.
At that moment, the headmaster on stage was delivering a speech, traditionally introducing the history of Edith Academy and offering wishes.
