Chapter 88: Marvel 88
Sitting inside the helicopter, the group rode in silence as the aircraft soared through the sky. The hum of the rotors filled the cabin, and the tension was palpable. Max leaned back, arms crossed, while Steve stared out of the window, seemingly lost in thought. Phil focused on his tablet, going over files.
Before long, the outline of the massive SHIELD Helicarrier came into view, floating majestically above the clouds. Its sheer size and futuristic design never failed to impress.
"We're here," Phil said, breaking the silence as the helicopter approached the landing pad.
The aircraft touched down smoothly, and the team disembarked. Max stretched slightly, looking up at the massive carrier. "I have to admit, it's an impressive piece of tech," he said, his tone neutral but with a hint of approval.
Steve glanced at him. "It's one of SHIELD's best assets. Let's hope it's enough."
Phil led the way, guiding them through the carrier. The halls bustled with agents moving quickly to and from various tasks, each with a sense of urgency. Max observed silently, taking note of SHIELD's organization and resources.
Soon, Phil brought them to a room where a few people were already seated: Fury, Maria Hill, and Agent Romanoff.
"Where's that Hawkeye guy?" Max asked.
Fury replied, "He's under the enemy's control."
Max nodded thoughtfully.
"Thank you for coming," Fury said.
Max shrugged, glancing around. "I guess we're the first ones to arrive," he remarked.
Fury nodded in confirmation.
"Sir, you have to see this," an agent said, barging into the room. He handed Fury a device, prompting him to bring up a live feed on the big screen for everyone to see.
"What is this?" Max asked.
Fury answered, "This is the intruder who captured both the doctor and Hawkeye."
The screen displayed Loki, standing confidently, a smug smile on his face.
"He's weak," Max commented, shaking his head.
The others glanced at him but refrained from responding.
"Then let's go capture him," Black Widow said as she began to leave.
Max shrugged and followed her. Asgardian magic... I wonder how much Loki actually knows. Though I doubt I can easily search his soul. What if a future version of Loki causes trouble for me? he mused as he walked.
They arrived at the jet soon after. Black Widow turned to him. "You'd better be ready; we're leaving in 15 minutes," she said.
Max nodded as Captain America left to retrieve his shield.
"Hey! Don't forget me!" a familiar voice called out. Turning, they saw Tony Stark strolling in, his usual cocky smirk plastered across his face.
"What's a kid doing here?" Tony asked, pointing at Max with a hint of playful suspicion.
Max's eyes narrowed as he snarled in response. "This 'kid' could destroy your fancy suit—and this ship—in a snap of his fingers, so be careful, tin man."
Tony tilted his head, his expression remaining playful. "Really? Is that so?" he asked, clearly unimpressed, as if testing how serious Max's claim was.
"Leave it," Black Widow interrupted, stepping between them.
Tony turned his gaze to her, his smirk widening. "You know, Natasha, you're still welcome to be my secretary," he teased with a wink.
Max rolled his eyes, unimpressed with Stark's playboy antics. "Do you ever stop talking, or is it part of the armor?" Max quipped.
"Ah, sarcasm. I like it," Tony shot back, clearly enjoying the banter.
"Enough," Fury's commanding voice cut through the room. "We have bigger problems than your egos."
Max shrugged, ignoring Tony's antics, while Tony made a mock-innocent gesture with his hands before settling into a seat.
Moments later, Captain America returned, now fully suited up in his iconic Captain America uniform, his shield slung across his back. "Let's move," he said, his voice calm but resolute.
The team boarded the Quinjet, the sleek SHIELD aircraft humming to life as it prepared for their mission to Germany. The atmosphere inside was tense but focused.
"So, we're going after this Loki guy," Tony said, leaning back in his seat as he fiddled with a small gadget. "What's the play? Cap here gives him a good old-fashioned speech about freedom, and we all clap?"
"Your sarcasm isn't helping," Natasha said, her tone sharp as she secured her seatbelt.
"I'm just saying," Tony retorted, looking around. "It's a Norse god. What's the backup plan if the shield and arrows don't cut it?"
Max, seated quietly near the rear, finally spoke. "If he gets out of hand, I'll deal with him."
Tony raised an eyebrow. "Oh, big talk. What are you, some kind of god-slayer?"
Max smirked faintly but didn't respond, his eyes focused on the horizon visible through the window.
"Focus," Steve interjected, glancing back at the team. "We're not here to banter. Loki's dangerous, and we need to bring him in quickly and cleanly."
The Quinjet lifted off, its engines roaring as it ascended into the sky. Their destination: Stuttgart, Germany—where Loki had been spotted causing chaos.
As the city lights came into view below, Natasha checked her gear while Cap gave a nod to Max. "You ready for this?" he asked.
Max simply shrugged. "I'll try not to make a mess."
Cap frowned slightly at the vague response but said nothing. The mission awaited.
As the Quinjet approached Stuttgart, SHIELD's surveillance system provided a live feed of the chaos below. Loki, dressed in his Asgardian attire, stood in a public square, commanding a crowd of terrified civilians to kneel before him. His sinister grin stretched wide as he basked in the fear radiating from the crowd.
"He's got a flair for the dramatic," Tony quipped, watching the feed.
"Stay focused," Cap said sternly, tightening the straps on his shield. "We've got to get him out of there before he hurts anyone else."
Natasha chimed in, checking her weapons. "We'll need to keep civilians safe while we engage. If he's as powerful as Thor, this could get messy fast."
"Messy?" Max said with a faint smirk. "If this is all he's got, I'd call it child's play."
"You really like underestimating your opponents, don't you?" Tony shot back.
Max didn't reply, instead rising to his feet as the Quinjet descended toward an open rooftop. "You worry too much, Tin Man."
