Marvel: As Thor

Chapter 24: Chapter 23: Hard Against Thanos

Chapter 23: Hard Against Thanos

The battlefield quaked under the tension of two titans preparing to clash. Thor gripped his double-edged spear, lightning crackling along its length, while Thanos stood calmly, his massive broadsword resting on his shoulder.

"You call yourself the overlord of the universe," Thor sneered, his voice echoing through the field. "Yet you send your minions to weaken me. Is this your idea of strength?"

Thanos' expression twisted into a scowl. "I don't waste my energy on fools. If you insist on challenging me, then you will learn your place—beneath my feet."

With a roar, Thor launched himself into the air, spear aimed directly at Thanos. The weapon shone like a comet, its edges crackling with lightning. Thanos met the strike with precision, raising his sword to parry. Sparks flew as the two weapons collided, the shockwave sending ripples through the air.

Thanos pushed back, his sheer strength forcing Thor to stagger. The god of thunder gritted his teeth and leaped back, summoning a thundercloud above them. Bolts of lightning rained down, illuminating the battlefield as they struck Thanos' armor.

The Mad Titan weathered the storm, his expression unchanging. "Is this the best Asgard has to offer?" he mocked, stepping forward as the lightning danced around him.

Thor growled, charging again. This time, he aimed for Thanos' weapon, hoping to disarm him. The spear struck with ferocity, and the broadsword flew from Thanos' grip, embedding itself in the ground several meters away.

Before Thor could capitalize on his advantage, Thanos grabbed the shaft of the spear with one hand and yanked it—and Thor—toward him. With a powerful swing, he hurled Thor into a nearby pillar, shattering it into rubble.

Thor groaned as he pulled himself from the debris, blood dripping from a gash on his forehead. His body ached, but his spirit burned brighter than ever. "I'll make you regret underestimating me, Thanos!"

The Mad Titan smirked. "Bold words for someone on the ground."

Thor surged forward again, fists blazing with lightning. He landed a punch squarely on Thanos' jaw, the impact creating a shockwave that sent the Black Order stumbling back. But the effort cost Thor dearly. His arm throbbed with pain, and Thanos barely flinched.

"You hit like a child," Thanos said, grabbing Thor by the arm and tossing him across the field. The god of thunder skidded to a halt, groaning as he forced himself to stand once more.

Nebula, watching from the sidelines, felt a mix of awe and fear. Thanos was as unstoppable as ever, but Thor's resilience inspired a glimmer of hope.

"You can't win," Thanos declared, advancing toward Thor. "You're outmatched in every way."

Thor roared, summoning every ounce of strength he had. A bolt of lightning, larger and brighter than any before, erupted from his spear and struck Thanos head-on. The battlefield was bathed in blinding light, and for a moment, it seemed as if the Mad Titan had been defeated.

But as the light faded, Thanos emerged, his armor scorched but his body unscathed. He looked at Thor with something between amusement and irritation. "Is that all you've got?"

Behind Thanos, Nebula struggled against her chains. Ebony Maw, who had her restrained, smirked as he tightened the grip. Thanos turned to her, his voice cold and commanding. "Nebula, finish him. Kill the god of thunder and prove your loyalty."

Nebula froze, her mechanical eye flickering as she processed the command. "You've taken everything from me," she spat. "You destroyed my home, turned me into a weapon, and now you expect me to obey you? I'll never bow to you again!"

Thanos raised an eyebrow, unimpressed by her defiance. "So be it." He gestured to Ebony Maw, who lifted Nebula into the air, tightening the invisible bonds around her.

Gamora, arriving on the scene, clenched her fists as she watched the scene unfold. She wanted to help Nebula but knew any move against Thanos would be suicide.

Thor, battered and bruised, saw the exchange and summoned his remaining strength. "You talk of loyalty," he said, his voice hoarse. "But you inspire nothing but fear. You'll fall, Thanos. Maybe not today, but your tyranny will end."

Thanos laughed, a deep, chilling sound. "You think words will save you? I've crushed gods, kings, and entire civilizations. You're no different."

But Thor wasn't finished. Channeling the storm, he unleashed a bolt of lightning so powerful it turned the skies purple. The bolt struck Thanos directly, forcing him to take a step back.

Amidst the chaos, Nebula noticed something peculiar within the lightning—a faint purple glow that seemed out of place. It pulsed with an energy she didn't recognize, and it gave her hope.

Thor collapsed to one knee, his body spent. "This isn't over," he growled, gripping his spear tightly.

Thanos, brushing off the remnants of the attack, approached Thor. "You're right," he said, his voice low and menacing, "it isn't over—not until you're broken."
