Marvel: As Thor

Chapter 23: Chapter 22: Showdown!!

Thor stood tall, his arms crossed as he locked eyes with Thanos. The air in the room was thick with tension, the kind that made even the bravest warriors uneasy. Still, Thor couldn't help himself.

"You're Thanos? The Titan who destroyed his own planet trying to 'save' it? Hah, and here I thought you'd be taller," Thor jabbed.

Thanos' imposing figure loomed as he remained still, his aura alone seeming to press down on the room. Thor hesitated for a brief moment before poking Thanos' injured foot with his weapon. He hadn't planned to speak first, but the silence was suffocating, and Thanos' aura felt like a storm waiting to break.

Beside him, Ebony Maw—Thanos' ever-loyal henchman—stepped forward, his face twisted in disdain. "How dare you—"

Thanos raised a hand, silencing him effortlessly. His voice was calm but carried a weight that made even Thor falter. "Oh? Odin's son. You've got your father's arrogance, I see. Bold, even for someone as reckless as you."

His eyes flickered to the young girl behind Thor, her small frame trembling as she tried to shrink away from his gaze. "And this? My daughter, cowering behind her would-be protector?"

The girl's lips tightened into a thin line. Her eyes burned with hatred, yet a shadow of fear lingered. She said nothing, refusing to acknowledge him.

Thor smirked, his arrogance returning in full force. "What's this? The infamous Mad Titan, destroyer of worlds, has a daughter? That's rich. A purple brute like you playing house? Hah!"

Thanos' expression didn't change, but the room seemed to grow colder.

"And here I thought you were all about wiping out half the universe. So what is this?" Thor's gaze slid to Proxima Midnight, who stood rigidly at Thanos' side. His smirk widened into something truly infuriating. "Ah, I get it now. Kept it in the family, huh? Not bad, not bad." He waggled his eyebrows in mock approval.

Proxima Midnight's face darkened, her grip tightening on her weapon.

"You insolent fool!" Ebony Maw snapped, his voice rising in indignation. "How dare you insult the great Thanos! You can't possibly comprehend his vision, his purpose!"

Thanos finally spoke, his deep voice cutting through the tension like a blade. "You do not understand the consequences of mocking me."

With a wave of his hand, Thanos signaled his subordinates.

The first to respond was Corvus Glaive, his eyes blazing with fury. Thor's earlier remarks had stung deeper than he cared to admit. He lunged at Thor with his double-bladed spear, the sharp edge slicing through the air with deadly precision.

Thor dodged the initial strike and, with a quick twist, grabbed the spear's shaft mid-swing. Corvus Glaive's eyes widened in surprise, but before he could react, a surge of electricity traveled down the weapon, shocking him into paralysis.

"Say goodbye!" Thor yelled as his lightning-charged foot connected with Corvus' chest, sending the warrior flying across the room.

Proxima Midnight darted forward, her weapon gleaming like a comet streaking toward Thor. But Thor was ready. He parried her strike with the disarmed spear, the sheer force of his counterattack driving her to one knee.

"You should've stayed in bed," Thor quipped as he swatted her weapon away. Just as he raised the spear for a finishing blow, a shadow fell over him.

"Thor, behind you!" the girl screamed.

Black Dwarf's massive telescoping hammer came down like a meteor, and Thor barely managed to yank Proxima Midnight into its path. The hammer struck her unconscious body, sending her sprawling.

"Whoops, my bad," Thor muttered with mock regret.

Black Dwarf roared in anger, his hulking frame charging at Thor like a freight train. Thor dodged at the last second, letting the giant crash into a nearby pillar. Without missing a beat, Thor turned his attention to Ebony Maw.

The slender sorcerer extended his hands, and the metal floor beneath Thor twisted and writhed like snakes, forming deadly spears that shot toward him. Thor's thunder-clad spear lashed out, shattering the metal constructs into harmless shards.

Ebony Maw's confidence faltered as Thor closed the distance in a flash. A bolt of lightning struck Ebony Maw, scorching his robes and leaving half his body charred. The sorcerer crumpled to the ground, defeated.

"I expected more," Thor said, stepping over Ebony Maw's limp form.

Black Dwarf, having recovered, roared and lunged once more. Thor sidestepped him easily, spinning his spear to knock the brute off balance. Before Black Dwarf could recover, Thor's attention shifted to the real threat.

Thanos.

With his subordinates defeated or incapacitated, Thanos finally moved. He stepped forward, his towering presence eclipsing Thor's defiant stance.

Thor didn't wait. Lightning surged around him as he charged, spear raised. "Come on, then!"

Thanos met him head-on, catching the spear mid-strike with one hand. The force of their clash sent shockwaves rippling through the room, and for a moment, it seemed as though the very walls might collapse.

"You're strong," Thanos said, almost approvingly. "But strength alone will not save you."

Thor gritted his teeth, pouring every ounce of his power into the strike. "I don't need saving. You do!"

With a sudden twist, Thanos wrenched the spear from Thor's grasp and tossed it aside. Thor responded with a thunderous uppercut, but Thanos blocked it with ease, his movements impossibly fast for someone of his size.

The girl watched in horror as the two titans clashed, the room shaking with each blow.

Thanos finally struck back, his fist connecting with Thor's chest. The force of the punch sent Thor crashing into a wall.

"Stay down," Thanos commanded, his voice cold and unyielding.

Thor staggered to his feet, blood trickling from his mouth. He wiped it away with the back of his hand and grinned. "You'll have to do better than that, sweet potato."

The fight was far from over.
