Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Random Miracles
Hela paused for a moment, her expression flickering between confusion and amusement. Then, her laughter echoed through the empty space, filling it with a sense of dark triumph.
"Hahahahaha, Odin, Odin, you really haven't changed at all, you're still as hypocritical as ever!" she cried out, her voice ringing with scorn. "You old fool! Even your own son is more promising than you!"
Her gaze shifted toward Thor, who stood silently, processing her words. To his surprise, she seemed to regard him with a newfound interest, though their ideals were still miles apart. Despite that, there was an undeniable respect in her eyes.
"I am Hela," she declared, her voice proud and filled with dark authority. "I was once the firstborn of Odin, the ruler of the Asgardian legion, the rightful heir to the throne, and the goddess of death. Together, we were the embodiment of absolute power in the universe. No one dared challenge our authority. But Odin, in his weak-mindedness, stopped in his tracks, hesitating when the time came."
Her eyes gleamed with passion, her words growing more fervent with each passing moment.
"Our destiny," Hela continued, "is to rule over all! We are invincible! We built the glory of Asgard with our own hands, and the world bent the knee before us. But then… my ambition surpassed Odin's. And for that, he banished me, imprisoned me, isolated me like some beast."
Thor stood quietly, listening intently. He could understand her pain, her anger. Hela had been cast aside, exiled because she desired power beyond what Odin was willing to grant. He saw the parallels between their paths—Odin had grown tired of the bloodshed, but Hela had embraced it. Her ambition was far greater, and her resentment burned just as hot.
Thor, too, understood the bitterness that lingered. He had defied Odin's ways, launching the war against the Giants of Jotunheim. He had questioned his father's methods, but that was nothing compared to Hela's rebellion. Yet, in some ways, their desires were not so different. Thor wanted a stronger Asgard, one that would be remembered, one that would not cower before any enemy.
Hela's voice broke through his thoughts as she continued, her anger still palpable.
"Before, the warriors of Asgard fought to build the foundation of this throne with their very bodies. But now… Odin has turned soft. He wishes to be some benevolent ruler. I am buried beneath his past mistakes."
Thor nodded slightly, understanding the weight of her words. He too, had been a witness to Odin's changing ideals. But he had never seen them from Hela's perspective—until now.
Thor, his expression unreadable, chose to remain silent for the moment. He understood Hela's anger, but he did not entirely agree with her approach. He, too, wanted to see Asgard strong again, but not through tyranny. There had to be another way.
Then, Thor's thoughts shifted. A new determination stirred within him. If he could align with Hela, gain her strength, perhaps he could broker some kind of peace between her and Odin. Maybe, just maybe, they could defeat the coming threats together, particularly with the looming menace of Thanos.
As Thor contemplated this, he suddenly felt a surge of power ripple through his body. His muscles tensed as a surge of energy exploded within him, and his eyes crackled with bright lightning. The dark, oppressive air seemed to shimmer with the force of his power.
"Sister, you—" Thor gasped, his voice barely a whisper. He could hardly believe it. Hela had broken the seal on him.
With a flick of her wrist, Hela smirked, her power evident. "This is a reward for you," she said, her voice dripping with dark amusement.
Thor's heart raced. The sudden surge of power was overwhelming. He felt stronger than ever, and yet, he also realized that this moment was a turning point. The task he had completed—facing death at Hela's hands—had rewarded him with an incredible ability: Death resistance. It meant that, under any circumstances, if he died, time would rewind for a short period, giving him a chance to change the course of events. But it came with a risk. Stronger enemies might notice the time anomaly.
"Sister," Thor began, still processing the situation, "I must leave. The seal on me… it didn't target me on purpose. I have a way to escape."
Without hesitation, Thor pulled out the Space Gem coupon he had kept hidden. He held it tightly, activating it to open a portal to escape from the dark world Hela had kept him in.
Hela watched silently, though she did not stop him. Her eyes held a cold gleam, her lips curling into a mocking smile as Thor moved toward the portal.
"Go ahead," Hela said coolly, "But remember, when you take the throne, I'll be waiting. If you have the strength, I will welcome the challenge."
Thor paused at the edge of the portal, his voice carrying over his shoulder. "When I inherit the throne, I will lift your seal. I'll announce your glory to Asgard."
Hela's expression hardened, and she let out a low chuckle. "Heh, inherit the throne? If you're capable of it, then we'll see. Challenge me, and we'll see if you truly have the strength to lead."
With those parting words, Thor stepped through the portal. His surroundings began to blur as he teleported away, but not before a sudden, disorienting sensation hit him. The world spun violently around him, and before he could process what was happening, he found himself standing before a group of heavily armed soldiers.
His eyes widened in confusion. Where am I?
Through the disorienting haze, he barely registered the unfamiliar terrain. His surroundings were strange, and the soldiers, clad in armor, appeared hostile.
"This is… a Kirita?" he muttered under his breath, as he prepared himself for whatever lay ahead.
