Chapter 5: I don't need it
"Even the strongest storms yield to the stillness of the abyss; for in the end, power bows only to its source." Unknown
The red eyes stared at Leviathan with an intensity that radiated evilness. Shadowy figures came out of the darkness, and Leviathan grinned. "You must all be joking. I'm Leviathan, the ancient mammoth, and all you plan on using to defeat me is an incomplete domain. You are hurting my pride," Leviathan said as his wings emerged from his back, his eyes glowing with a red light so bright that the darkness scattered.
Soon, only a single shadowy figure was left. "See, it's just a sheep trying to be a wolf," Leviathan said with a smirk. Lotan wanted to say something to stop Leviathan from killing the being, but before he could speak, Leviathan's huge red wings had already moved, and the being was sliced in two.
"What the fuck did you just do?" Lotan shouted at Leviathan in anger.
"Be mindful of the tone you use when speaking to me," Leviathan said, his red eyes glowing intensely as immense pressure oozed out of his body, causing the whole building to shake.
"You don't understand what you just did," Lotan said, but this time his tone was much quieter.
"Then explain," Leviathan said, and Lotan sighed.
"We should have captured him, not killed him," Lotan said, and Leviathan wore a puzzled expression.
"The thing is, I only know a little more than you about these hunters. They are creatures we know nothing of. We were lucky that this was only one, but the thing is, if you kill one of these things and the others find out..." Lotan trailed off, giving Leviathan a meaningful look.
"Get on with it and tell me what will happen," Leviathan said.
"They identify the threat's strength and then send over five of them to nullify it," Lotan said seriously. Leviathan began to laugh loudly.
"From what I saw just now, these hunters are not a threat, even if there were a million of them. If they come, their fate will be the same as this dead one here. So stop worrying," Leviathan said as he retracted his wings.
Leviathan then wore his clothes before sitting on the couch. "So, we need to discuss the most important issue here," Leviathan said, and Lotan sat beside him.
"What is more important than the hunters?" Lotan asked, confused.
"See, listen, Lotan. My sole purpose is literally to destroy everything and anything. The hunters will only be seeking death by facing me," Leviathan said nonchalantly.
"Fine, what is the important issue you want us to talk about?" Lotan asked, and Leviathan smiled.
"Who am I?" Leviathan asked, and Lotan looked confused.
"Why would you ask me who you are? I'm sure you're not having an identity crisis, right?" Lotan asked.
"No, I'm not having an identity crisis. I just need to know my identity as a human," Leviathan said, and Lotan felt his head spinning.
"That's going to be a problem," Lotan said with a sheepish smile.
"What is the problem?" Leviathan asked, feeling a sense of dread.
"Oh, it's nothing," Lotan said, and Leviathan stared at him suspiciously.
"Are you sure it's nothing?" Leviathan asked, and Lotan took a deep breath before replying.
"I kind of expected you to look a little older than you look right now," Lotan said, and Leviathan felt like he was struck by lightning.
Masking his anger with a smile, Leviathan asked another question, "How old were you expecting me to look?"
"Old enough to give birth to a late-twenties-looking man like me," Lotan replied, and Leviathan looked at Lotan in disbelief.
"You don't age, and you think I'll age? Do you think I'll lose my immortality just because you're immortal?" Leviathan asked, and Lotan coughed in embarrassment.
"What do you plan on doing now then? I can't be your father when I look this young," Leviathan said as he touched his face.
"How about I call you my twin?" Lotan suggested with a smile, and Leviathan frowned.
"I look younger than you," Leviathan said in a narcissistic manner.
"You can't be serious right now," Lotan said, looking at Leviathan in disbelief.
"You don't look that young, okay," Lotan said, and Leviathan looked at him disdainfully.
"Are you looking down on me right now?" Lotan asked, and Leviathan smirked before replying, "Yes."
Lotan balled his hands into fists. "I'm serious, you are not that young-looking," Lotan said.
"I know, I know. I'm even younger than I think," Leviathan said as his smirk grew.
"Just tell me what you want," Lotan said, frustrated.
"This place," Leviathan said, and Lotan was dumbfounded.
"You want my building?" Lotan asked, confused.
"What? Are you unwilling to give it to me?" Leviathan asked, grinning.
"No, it's just that if I give this to you, I'll lose this penthouse, and I'm unwilling to part with it," Lotan said, and Leviathan laughed out loud.
His laugh stopped abruptly, and his face turned serious. "You either give it to me or I throw you out," Leviathan said, and Lotan rolled his eyes.
"Not everything has to be solved by violence, Leviathan. Sometimes you just have to talk to people. It's called civilization, and you should know that by now," Lotan said, still unwilling to give up the building.
"Pack your things, or I'll throw you out," Leviathan said, and Lotan raised his hands in surrender.
"I'll move out of the penthouse, okay?" Lotan said as he stood up, wearing his clothes and packing his things at supernatural speed.
"Ensure you don't damage anything in the penthouse, okay? And don't change the paintings," Lotan said, and Leviathan stared at him intensely.
"What? I'll get the paperwork to you tomorrow," Lotan said as he walked to the elevator. Leviathan kept staring at him and followed him.
"What else do you want from me?" Lotan asked.
"I want money," Leviathan said, and Lotan laughed out loud.
"So, you were too ashamed to ask me for money?" Lotan asked, and Leviathan glared at him fiercely.
"You better watch your mouth," Leviathan warned, and Lotan threw a card at him.
"The password is a thousand," Lotan said. Leviathan caught the card, and they both entered the elevator.
"Do you have anywhere you want to go?" Lotan asked Leviathan, noticing he had entered the elevator with him. "Do you need me to buy a car for you or what?"
"I have no need for a car. I'm faster than any version of a car they'll ever create," Leviathan said smugly as he clicked the button for the first floor.
As the elevator doors opened on the first floor, Leviathan stepped out, his commanding presence causing heads to turn. He moved with effortless grace, exuding an aura that screamed power and danger. But before he could take more than a few steps, he almost collided with two women.
Sophia immediately stepped back, her face tightening as she recognized him. Her dark brown eyes flitted away as if avoiding even the thought of him, while Alice, on the other hand, lit up like a spark in the dark.
"Hey!" Alice exclaimed, her voice bubbly and animated. "Fancy running into you here."
Leviathan's gaze flicked from Sophia, who was trying very hard to pretend she hadn't seen him, to Alice, who looked far too pleased to see him. "It's you two again," he said with a smirk, his voice deep and velvety.
Sophia clenched her jaw, muttering under her breath, "Of all the people…"
Alice stepped forward, practically blocking Sophia from retreating any further. "Where did you disappear to that day at the beach?" she asked, her bright green eyes gleaming with curiosity. "One second you were there, and then poof! You were gone!"
Leviathan raised a brow, his smirk growing. "Poof? That's an interesting way to put it."
Alice tilted her head, undeterred. "So, where'd you go? Are you some sort of magician? Or do you just have a habit of disappearing on people?"
Leviathan chuckled, clearly amused by her persistence. "Let's just say I had somewhere important to be."
Alice folded her arms, her expression skeptical. "That's not an answer."
Meanwhile, Sophia took a step back, hoping to slip away unnoticed. But Leviathan's sharp gaze caught her movement. "And you," he said, his voice softening slightly. "You're awfully quiet today."
Sophia froze, refusing to meet his gaze. "I don't have anything to say," she replied curtly, her tone colder than she intended.
Leviathan's smile faltered for a moment before returning. "That's a shame. I was hoping we could pick up where we left off after all we did communicate with our gaze"
Sophia didn't respond, her arms crossed tightly over her chest.
Alice, sensing the tension, decided to interject. "You know, Leviathan, for someone who's just 'someone important,' you've got quite the mysterious vibe. Are you a celebrity or something?"
Leviathan smirked. "Would it make a difference if I were?"
Alice laughed. "Not really, but it might explain why you look like you just stepped out of a magazine."
Leviathan inclined his head, acknowledging the compliment. "And here I thought you were going to ask me for an autograph."
Alice rolled her eyes but was clearly enjoying the banter. "How about your number instead?"
Sophia's eyes widened, but she quickly masked her reaction. Leviathan didn't hesitate. "Fair trade," he said, pulling out his phone and handing it to Alice.
Alice entered her number and handed it back to him with a grin. "Now you owe me an explanation about that disappearing act."
Leviathan chuckled but didn't commit to answering. His gaze shifted back to Sophia, who was still trying to shrink into the background. "And you?" he asked. "Are you going to keep ignoring me?"
Sophia finally met his gaze, her expression unreadable. "I don't see the point in talking," she said flatly.
Alice nudged her playfully. "Sophia, don't be so harsh. He's just trying to be friendly."
Sophia shot her a warning look but didn't respond.
"Well, I'd better get going," Leviathan said, sensing that pushing Sophia any further wouldn't get him anywhere. "I have some errands to run."
"Errands?" Alice asked, clearly intrigued.
"Just picking up some new clothes," Leviathan replied casually.
Alice gave him a once-over and smirked. "I'd say you're doing fine without them, but good luck."
Leviathan gave her a nod before walking away, leaving the two women behind.
As soon as he was out of earshot, Alice turned to Sophia with a mischievous grin. "Okay, spill. What's your problem with him?"
Sophia frowned, clearly uncomfortable with the question. "I don't have a problem with him. I just don't trust him."
Alice raised a brow. "You don't trust him, or you don't trust yourself around him?"
Sophia shot her a glare. "Don't start."
Alice laughed, clearly enjoying herself. "Come on, Sophia. He's hot, he's mysterious, and he's obviously interested in you. Why are you shutting him down so hard?"
Sophia looked away, her expression conflicted. "You wouldn't understand."
Alice smirked. "Oh, I understand perfectly. You're scared he might actually like you."
"That's ridiculous," Sophia snapped, her tone defensive.
"Is it?" Alice pressed, her grin widening. "Because from where I'm standing, it looks like he was trying really hard to get your attention."
Sophia didn't respond, her mind racing with conflicting thoughts.
"Face it, Soph," Alice said, her tone teasing. "The guy is into you. And if you're not careful, you might just fall for him too."
Sophia's eyes narrowed, her voice firm. "That's never going to happen."
Before Alice could respond, her phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen and froze, her expression shifting to one of concern.
"What's wrong?" Sophia asked, noticing the change in her friend's demeanor.
Alice hesitated before holding up her phone. On the screen was a message from an unknown number: **"Stay away from him if you value your life."**
Sophia's heart sank as a chill ran down her spine.
