Leviathan: Rise of the Abyss

Chapter 2: The Awakening

**Chapter Two: The Awakening**

Deep beneath the surface of the Pacific Ocean, where light couldn't reach and silence ruled, something stirred.

A millennium had passed since the Leviathan's body was sealed away in the abyss. For centuries, his spirit roamed the world, observing but never truly living. But now, the time had come. His spirit returned to its rightful place, fusing with his long-dormant body.

Golden eyes flickered open, illuminating the watery darkness. Muscles that hadn't moved in a thousand years began to stir. The Leviathan's lips curled into a faint, chilling smile.

**Kindred Hospital, Seattle, Washington**

Sophia Lane walked briskly through the brightly lit halls of the hospital, clipboard in hand. Her long blonde hair was tied back neatly, and her white coat was perfectly pressed. She moved with purpose, checking on patients in each ward as she made her rounds.

"Miss Sophia!"

The cheerful voice made her pause. Turning toward Ward 7, she saw Mr. Miles, one of her older patients, sitting upright in bed. His face lit up the moment she stepped inside.

"Good morning, Mr. Miles," Sophia greeted, her lips curving into a warm smile. "How are you feeling today?"

"Better than I've felt in years," he replied, his eyes sparkling. "Whatever you did, it worked miracles."

Sophia chuckled lightly, moving closer to check his IV drip. "Let's not call it a miracle just yet. But I'm glad to hear you're doing better."

"You're far too humble, Miss Sophia," Mr. Miles said, shaking his head. "This hospital wouldn't be the same without you."

Sophia gave him a polite nod, her expression calm, but inside, she felt the familiar pang of frustration.

*If only they knew what I really am.*

**Sophia's POV**

As she stepped out of the ward and into the bustling hallway, Sophia couldn't help but sigh.

"They all think I'm some kind of saint," she thought bitterly, her heels clicking softly against the polished floor.

But she knew the truth. She wasn't special. The reason for her miraculous success had nothing to do with talent and everything to do with the curse she carried. Her ability to heal wasn't meant for humans. It was meant for creatures—beings most people didn't even know existed.

She passed a group of nurses who whispered behind her back, their eyes filled with suspicion and jealousy.

"I don't know why I bother," Sophia muttered under her breath, forcing a smile as she nodded at a passing doctor who barely acknowledged her.

---

"Hey, Sophia!"

She turned to see Alice, her only friend in the hospital, hurrying toward her.

"What's wrong?" Sophia asked, noticing the worried look on Alice's face.

Alice hesitated, biting her lip. "I think it's better if you hear it from the MD yourself."

Sophia frowned but followed Alice to the Medical Director's office. Alice knocked lightly, and a deep voice called from the other side.

"Come in."

Sophia stepped into the room, her nerves on. Although she wasn't sure what to expect, it surely wasn't the MD's unusually bright smile

"Ah, Miss Lane!" he exclaimed, standing up from his chair.

Sophia blinked in surprise. "Sir?, What exactly did I do?"

"You've done it again," the MD said, his grin almost too wide. "Mr. Miles just donated a million dollars to the hospital. All thanks to you!"

Sophia's smile tightened. *Fucking vampires,* she thought bitterly, masking her annoyance.

"To show our gratitude, we've decided to promote you to Attending Physician," the MD announced proudly. "Congratulations!"

Sophia forced a polite laugh. "Thank you, sir. That's… very kind of you."

"You can take the rest of the day off to celebrate," the MD added, practically ushering her and Alice out of his office.

**Later That Day**

"Well, that was unexpected," Alice said as they stepped out into the fresh air.

Sophia shook her head, letting out a dry laugh. "Yeah, not what I was expecting either. But hey, at least I'm climbing the ranks quickly, right?"

"Exactly! And we're celebrating," Alice declared, her eyes lighting up.

Sophia raised an eyebrow. "Celebrating what? Being used as a pawn by supernatural freeloaders?"

Alice rolled her eyes. "This isn't time to say all those your weird shit,I am talking about your promotion, obviously! Come on, let's go somewhere fun."

"Like where?"

"The beach!"

---

**At Sophia's House**

Sophia stared at herself in Alice's bedroom mirror, feeling completely out of her element. The tiny bikini Alice had picked out was barely holding everything in place.

"I can't wear this," she said, tugging at the straps awkwardly. Her tanned skin and toned body looked fine, but the outfit felt… too much.

"You look amazing!" Alice said, practically bouncing with excitement. "You're 26, Sophia. Live a little! You're always wearing suits. No one's going to notice you if you don't put yourself out there."

Sophia sighed, grabbing a loose shirt and pulling it over the bikini. "Fine. Let's just go before I change my mind."

---

The beach was packed with families, couples, and groups of friends. The sun was warm, the sand hot beneath their feet. Sophia let herself relax, laughing as Alice dragged her toward the water.

For a while, everything was perfect. The waves lapped gently at the shore, and children's laughter filled the air.

Then, everything changed.

A massive wave rose from the ocean, towering over the beach like a wall of liquid glass.

"Sophia, run!" Alice screamed, grabbing her arm.

Sophia's heart raced as they sprinted toward safety, the sound of crashing water deafening behind them. They barely made it to higher ground, but not everyone was as lucky.

When the water receded, the beach was in chaos. In the distance, a figure lay motionless on the sand.

"Who is that?" Alice whispered, clutching Sophia's arm tightly as she pointed at Leviathan's figure.

Sophia shook her head, her eyes fixed on the man. He was tall, broad-shouldered, and completely out of place. His body seemed to radiate an unnatural aura, even as he lay still.

The man stirred, his golden eyes snapping open. Slowly, he sat up, a wicked smile spreading across his face.

"Finally," he said, his voice deep and resonant. "I can see the sun once more." Leviathan said
