Chapter 18: 18 Not over yet.
Crash
The old man was hurled back into the shrine by a heavy force, his body slamming against the wooden floor with a thud before going motionless. Jotaro watched him for a moment, ensuring he was down for good, before glancing over his shoulder.
Yuki stood amidst the scattered corpses of the zombies, brushing the blood off her hands. "Those guys are really disgusting to fight," she muttered with a sad expression noticing her hands dirty with zombie blood.
Although the fight didn't last long, the fact that the creatures were not just curses meant they would leave a mess behind.
Jotaro moved his attention back to his target, stepping into the shrine and approaching the unconscious old man. Now that he had a closer look, he felt like he recognized the man. If his memory did not betray him, he was that one attendant at the Kamo Clan, someone Kenjaku had brainwashed in the manga before taking over the Kamo Clan.
(A/N: the old man is known as Shino).
Behind him, Yuki's footsteps echoed lightly as she stopped and peered over his shoulder with a curious expression. "Why didn't you just finish him?" she asked, seeing how Jotaro had clearly held back his punch when dealing with the man.
Lowering his body next to the old man, Jotaro remained silent for a moment before replying in a calm, neutral tone. "He's not a zombie... We might be able to use him to get some information."
Then Jotaro's stand, Star Platinum, materialized beside him. Yuki watched, curious about what Jotaro wanted to do, as Star Platinum's hand moved toward the old man's forehead, gripping the strange parasite latched there.
The parasite wriggled around lightly as Jotaro remained focused. Star Platinum began to extract it carefully, but as it came loose, one of its small tendrils lashed out, attaching itself to Jotaro's arm. It crept up slowly, pulsating ominously underneath Jotaro's skin spreading further up his arm.
"Jotaro, watch ou—" Yuki started, her eyes widening in alarm. She moved forward instinctively to intervene but froze in her tracks at Jotaro's sharp voice.
"Don't touch me women!" Jotaro spoke out, not even sparing her a glance.
Yuki stepped back, a mix of betrayal and embarrassment flashing across her face. She opened her mouth to argue but thought better of it, watching warily instead.
Though Jotaro knew what he was doing was undeniably dangerous, he was confident in his stand's ability to handle the situation. If it went too far and his life was in danger, he was prepared to rip the parasite off with brute force, even if it meant sacrificing the old man's life. For now, though, he focused on removing the creature while keeping the man alive.
The parasite could only reached up to Jotaro's shoulder before Star Platinum finally managed to pull it free completely. With a decisive motion, the stand hurled it into the air.
"ORA!"
Star Platinum's fists slammed together with the parasite in the middle, pulverizing it midair. The force of the blows reverberated through the shrine, and as Star Platinum separated his fists, there was nothing left behind but a faint shimmer of dust.
Jotaro exhaled, rolling his shoulder and turned back to Yuki. She stood with her arms folded, her lips pressed into a frown.
"Yare yare," Jotaro muttered, shaking his head but before he could say anything to her, a groan escaped the old man's lips, drawing their attention.
The old man stirred, blinking as he rubbed his forehead. "Where am I? Who are you people?" Shino asked, disoriented.
"You were under someone's mind control, old man," Jotaro stated bluntly, standing tall above him.
"Control? That's impossible," Shino replied, narrowing his eyes as if trying to gauge whether Jotaro was some sort of intruder.
"It happened, so its not impossible," Yuki interjected from the doorway, her tone casual.
Seeing her, recognition flickered in the old man's eyes. "You… you're that Special Grade sorcerer?"
"Oh?" Yuki's demeanor shifted instantly, her seriousness replaced with a stupid grin. "You've heard of me? Go on!"
"Enough chit-chat, old fart!" Jotaro snapped, his patience wearing thin. "Don't waste my time and answer my question. What's the last thing you remember?"
Shino muttered something under his breath about disrespectful youths before answering. "I was at the clan's headquarters, taking care of the future clan head. I stepped outside for a moment, and then… I woke up here." His expression darkened. "But if you are speaking the truth... the clan's future head might be in danger!" He bolted upright, panic in his eyes.
Jotaro grabbed him by the collar, holding him still. "Stop freaking out, I still got some questions," he said sternly. "What do you know about the Stone Mask?"
"The Stone Mask?" Shino repeated, his face twisting in confusion. "That's a family heirloom. How do you know about-"
"The brainwashing you experienced is a direct result of the mask's power." Jotaro interrupted, his tone brooking no argument. "Now think carefully and tell me. Did you notice anyone unusual?..."
Jotaro paused before speaking in a lower tone "Someone with stitches on their forehead?"
Shino furrowed his brows, shaking his head slowly. "No… except for an ancestor from over a hundred years ago, no one in our clan had stitches on their head." He paused, his gaze distant.
Jotaro's grip tightened understanding who he was talking about. Clicking his tongue in irritation, he threw the old man to the ground and turned to leave.
"Wait!" Shino called after him, his voice desperate. "There was a woman the clan leader had taken a liking to recently, but I never saw her myself. As for the mask, I know the clan base like the back of my hand! I can help you find the mask!"
Jotaro stopped in his tracks. "And why would you do that, knowing full well I'm after your shitty family heirloom?"
"You can have the mask! But in return, you need to help me. If there really is a traitor, the future clan head might be in danger!"
Jotaro glanced back at the old man with narrowed eyes. 'He's talking about Noritoshi, huh?' He closed his eyes briefly, weighing his options. There was a high chance the mask was already gone from the Kamo Clan's grasp but there was no other lead...and someone had already used it.
He wasn't sure if Kenjaku was behind all of this, especially since, in the original timeline, he didn't take control of the Kamo Clan until much later. 'If left alone, things would undoubtedly get more complicated.'
"Fine," Jojo said finally, his tone cold. "But if you're lying about the mask…" His gaze darkened, his voice dropping to a dangerous growl. "I'll make sure you don't live long enough to see your future leader grow up."
Shino swallowed hard, but he nodded. Outside, Yuki rubbed her forehead, wondering if all this trouble was even worth it.
