Chapter 91 - III
After the New Year, the next festival was the Lantern Festival.
The day before the Lantern Festival, Wu Mingrui finally finished all the questions sent by Jing Xingzhi.
He happily held the list of exam questions filled with words and planned to find his friends.
Wu Mingrui ran to the academy and found Jing Xingzhi’s home.
First, he wished New Year greetings for the second time, and then Wu Mingrui gave various hints: “Okay, look at my homework…”
‘I have finished it!’
Wu Mingrui looked at Jing Xingzhi with bright eyes, full of expectation.
Jing Xingzhi was secretly happy in his heart, but he didn’t show it on his face. He said “Oh” and praised emotionlessly: “Brother Mingrui has been working really hard recently. If you keep working hard, you will definitely achieve something.”
Wu Mingrui was pulled in circles by Jing Xingzhi several times and finally couldn’t bear it anymore. He said anxiously: “Xingzhi, tomorrow is the Lantern Festival, you promised to help me.”
Wu Mingrui simply put the packed purse on the table.
The two of them were gentlemen, and every word they said was a promise, and they would do what they had said.
Seeing Wu Mingrui’s impatient look, Jing Xingzhi suppressed a smile and said earnestly: “Brother Mingrui, it can’t be done.”
Wu Mingrui was stunned. He thought that Xingzhi was not someone who made empty talk. Could something has happened?!
“What’s wrong?” Wu Mingrui leaned forward, his tone a little anxious.
Jing Xingzhi smiled evilly and patted Brother Mingrui on the shoulder: “Tomorrow is the Lantern Festival, let’s go see the lanterns together. You can give the gift yourself, why do you want me to give it for you!”
‘Go see the lanterns together?! I could send it myself?!’
Wu Mingrui felt that the Lantern Festival fireworks seemed to have exploded in his heart in advance. He grabbed his friend’s hand and said, “Thank you, Xingzhi!”
On the surface, Fang Qichen looked like a very strict old man. So, Wu Mingrui attributed this benefit to Jing Xingzhi.
Jing Xingzhi shook his head and said, “The teacher agreed, otherwise I couldn’t mess around.”
“Then, this is all thanks to the chief too.” Wu Mingrui touched his nose, “But please help me and tell me something I should and shouldn’t do.”
“When you come to pick up my junior sister tomorrow, remember not to stay out too late. She is a bit noisy, so don’t just go along with her.” Jing Xingzhi gave Brother Mingrui a family reminder in advance.
.
On the second day, the Lantern Festival that young people were looking forward to had arrived.
Before the sun set, Wu Mingrui arrived at the academy early and came to pick up people to go out to play.
Fang Yaojun was accompanied by two women, who wanted to follow her out together. After all, as an unmarried girl, no matter how safe the town was, Fang Qichen would not let her go out alone.
As for Liu Fang, because the baby was more than seven months old, his body was getting heavier and heavier, and it was impossible to go out to play.
But seeing Fang Yaojun going out happily, Liu Fang looked at Jing Xingzhi unhappy and complained slightly: “I want to go too.”
“No. Next year, let’s go next year.” Jing Xingzhi shook his head.
Liu Fang asked again: “So what do we do today? It’s so boring.” Liu Fang raised his chin in boredom and looked at the closed window.
“I can’t even open the windows for fear of the cold air coming in. It’s so boring to be stuck in the room.”
Jing Xingzhi lowered his head, his eyes still on his book.
When Liu Fang didn’t hear the answer, he turned back to look at Jing Xingzhi. Unexpectedly, he saw that Jing Xingzhi was engrossed in his book.
Liu Fang reached out angrily, moved his hands and feet, touched Jing Xingzhi’s chin, and pinched his face.
“Big Pig Hoof, it’s a festival today! Didn’t you even prepare a surprise? Where’s my surprise?”
Liu Fang knew that Jing Xingzhi had secretly prepared something in the past few days. But he didn’t know what it was, and Jing Xingzhi ignoring him at the moment made Liu Fang a little angry.
Jing Xingzhi raised his eyebrows: “What surprise?”
Liu Fang snorted: “Where is it? I’ll bite you if you don’t tell me! My teeth are very itchy recently.”
As he spoke, Liu Fang showed off his small white teeth.
Jing Xingzhi laughed, moved his head forward, and successfully stole a kiss.
After the kiss, Jing Xingzhi held Liu Fang’s waist and said with a helpless smile: “In the evening, you’ll know.”
Jing Xingzhi smiled so much that Liu Fang’s heart sank. Wouldn’t this guy think of something inappropriate again?
“How about we forget it?” Liu Fang whispered.
Jing Xingzhi looked at his face and found that Xiao Fangfang looked unnatural. He smiled and grabbed Liu Fang’s face: “Xiao Fangfang, you think so dirty! I can smell the car exhaust.”
“I don’t!”
“You must have thought about it just now.”
“It’s all because you smiled so strangely, otherwise why would I think too much about it.” Liu Fang ended the topic with one sentence, “Remember it, you will take me out to play on the Lantern Festival next year. I won’t go today; I’m carrying a baby. I’m so tired, I don’t want to go out.”
Liu Fang leaned on Jing Xingzhi’s shoulder, and his whole body went limp.
Jing Xingzhi patted his back. Liu Fang didn’t sleep well last night, so he fell asleep soon.
.
When it got dark, Jing Xingzhi woke Liu Fang up for dinner.
After finishing his meal, Jing Xingzhi found a black ribbon and waved it in front of Liu Fang: “Here, let me tie this for you.”
Liu Fang curled up the corners of his mouth and raised his chin slightly, allowing Jing Xingzhi to cover his eyes.
Before he covered his eyes, there was a bright yellow light in the room, but once he eyes were covered, everything in his sight disappeared in an instant, and all kinds of rustling sounds gradually became louder.
Liu Fang stretched out his hand in panic.
Jing Xingzhi extended his hand and said softly, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”
“It’s too difficult to walk blindfolded for a while. I’ll carry you there, but you’re not allowed to peek.” Jing Xingzhi considered the distance to Shuhe River and decided it would be better to carry Liu Fang.
After saying that, Jing Xingzhi moved one hand behind Liu Fang’s back, placed the other on the crook of his leg, and lifted him with all his strength.
Nourished by the spiritual energy, Jing Xingzhi’s physical condition had already surpassed that of many others, and it didn’t take much effort to hold Liu Fang.
For safety reasons, Jing Xingzhi carefully watched the ground as he walked.
Liu Fang put an arm around Jing Xingzhi’s neck and asked, “Where are we going? I smell grass.”
“You little clever guy, stop guessing,” Jing Xingzhi smiled and replied gently. Then he asked, “Are you cold?”
“I’m not cold. Are you?” Liu Fang hugged Jing Xingzhi’s neck, suddenly reaching out and touching it. “You didn’t bring a scarf!”
Jing Xingzhi wasn’t actually cold, but he said, “Then please cover me and keep me warm, alright?”
Invisible in the darkness, Liu Fang found what he needed to do. He pulled off half of his long scarf, wrapped it around Jing Xingzhi, and also covered his hands, fearing he might get cold.
Perhaps it was due to the warmth inside him, but Liu Fang’s hands felt particularly warm in the winter air, and he felt very comfortable.
As they walked, Jing Xingzhi’s footsteps eventually stopped.
Liu Fang smelled the cool breath of the water and asked happily, “Are we here?”
“Yes, we’re here. Let me untie it for you. When it’s untied, slowly open your eyes.”
Jing Xingzhi set Liu Fang down, stood behind him, and untied the black ribbon that was simply meant to block light. Then he hugged Liu Fang from behind.
Liu Fang opened his eyes.
In the darkness, a river of light flowed before him, as if all the stars had gathered in his eyes.
—The most important thing was that these were the Lantern Festival in the river that he had longed to see!
There was a soft smile in the voice behind him as Jing Xingzhi said, “Why envy young lovers who struggle to meet each other today? You already have me.”
