Chapter 1320: The Clever Bulbasaur
Upon hearing Yuga's words, Aggron slightly bent down and extended its right arm. Yuga instantly understood its intentions and climbed up its arm, settling onto its shoulder.
Once steady, Yuga recalled Tyranitar. Having both massive Pokémon out at the same time would make their presence too conspicuous.
"Alright, let's go."
At Yuga's command, Aggron took long strides forward, and the Pokémon in the vicinity, upon noticing it, scattered in all directions, terrified.
Though the island was overrun with plants that hindered human movement, none of them posed a challenge for Aggron. With each step it took, everything in its path was crushed underfoot.
Previously, while navigating through the dense forest, Yuga had often encountered attacks from Pokémon like Aridos, Arbok, Fearow, and Beedrill, but with Aggron around, these Pokémon would flee long before Yuga and Aggron came near.
Because of their previous actions, there were no powerful Pokémon species near the Nido family territory. Yuga sat atop Aggron's shoulder for quite some time, with no disturbances or new discoveries.
"Aggron, let's head further out," Yuga said.
"Aggron~"
Aggron responded, asking which direction Yuga wanted to go.
Yuga thought for a moment and pointed in a direction. "Let's go this way."
The Nido family's territory was roughly located on the southeastern shore of the island, and the direction Yuga pointed to was northwest. If they kept moving in that direction, they might end up crossing the entire Resurrection Island.
After hearing Yuga's words, Aggron nodded and began striding forward.
At first, Yuga hoped they might encounter some high potential Pokémon along the way, but with Aggron present, no Pokémon dared to stay. By the time Yuga and Aggron got close, they had already vanished, leaving Yuga to pick medical herbs along the way instead.
Medical herbs were unlikely to run away.
The island was abundant in medicinal resources. Though Yuga wasn't an herbalist, he recognized most of the herbs, and as a result, he collected many valuable medicinal plants, some of which were rare outside of the island.
Because so many rare medicinal herbs were encountered along the way, Yuga became engrossed in collecting them, losing track of time and unknowingly straying farther from the Nido family's territory.
Looking at the sky, Yuga realized that since they had already come so far, he might as well not turn back. Let the Nido family and the Joy family worry about their own transactions.
With that in mind, Yuga took out some paper and a pen from his spatial backpack, wrote a note, and handed it to Decidueye. He instructed it to fly back to the Nido family's territory and deliver the note to Joyha and the others.
Yuga decided to temporarily stay away from the Nido family. He intended to make the most of this opportunity to explore Resurrection Island and uncover the secrets it held.
Although the system's tasks were never mandatory, Yuga had been working with it long enough to know that there was always a reason behind every task. Completing them always brought great rewards.
Before he knew it, night had fallen. Yuga found a relatively open spot to set up camp, deciding to resume their journey the following day.
Once everything was set up, he released all of his Pokémon, gave them Pokeblock to eat, and lit a campfire. Then, he set up a pot to boil water and cook rice.
When Yuga had been with Joyha and the others, he couldn't reveal the existence of his spatial backpack, so he had been limited to eating things like instant noodles and bread. Now that he was alone, he was eager to treat his stomach to something better.
Yuga had stored a large variety of ingredients in his system space, so even if he lived in the wild for a year or two, he wouldn't have to worry about lacking good food.
Once the rice was in the pot, Yuga said to Florges, "Florges, keep an eye on the fire. I'll go stir-fry some vegetables."
"Florges~"
Florges responded, holding her own bowl of rice and sitting by the pot.
Yuga then took out a table, a knife, a cutting board, and the ingredients, beginning to prepare the meal. Once the ingredients and seasonings were ready, he called out, "Charizard!"
Charizard, who had been eating, nudged its bowl aside, scooted closer to Yuga, and offered its fiery tail.
Seeing this, Yuga said, "Make the fire a bit hotter."
Charizard didn't stop eating, but the flames on its tail suddenly flared up higher.
Yuga, seeing this, nodded in satisfaction and then took out a frying pan, placing it over the flames. Once the bottom of the pan was heated, he poured some cooking oil into it.
With a sizzling sound, Yuga began stirring the ingredients in the pan. Before long, a delicious aroma spread in all directions.
Only Yuga would dare do this; ordinary adventurers wouldn't risk it. If the smell attracted powerful Pokémon, it could spell trouble.
As the dish neared completion, Cosmoem, having already eaten most of its Pokeblock, teleported in front of Yuga with its eyes closed and its mouth wide open.
"Ah~"
Yuga looked at Cosmoem with amusement, picked up some food with chopsticks, and fed it to Cosmoem. "How is it? Tasty?"
Cosmoem squinted its eyes, chewing happily. Its expression was as though it were eating a rare delicacy, which amused Yuga greatly.
Being familiar with his own cooking skills, Yuga knew it was far from gourmet level, not even on par with an average chef. Yet, here was Cosmoem enjoying it so much.
Not far away, Chimecho watched this scene and immediately became displeased. It teleported over to Yuga and tried to push Cosmoem aside. But after a failed attempt, it realized that with Cosmoem's weight, if it didn't want to be moved, no one would be able to shift it.
"Chimecho~"
Just then, Chimecho suddenly heard Cosmoem let out a "weak" cry. It saw Cosmoem wobbling and then collapsing onto the table, looking at Yuga with big, watery eyes full of unspoken complaints.
The little expression of being wronged was utterly pitiful.
Chimecho stared, dumbfounded.
Yuga, seeing Cosmoem suddenly act like a drama queen, nearly burst into laughter. He then picked up some more food with chopsticks and fed it to Cosmoem.
Chimecho was left speechless.
Cosmoem, satisfied, smacked its lips twice and then teleported away from the table, casting a seemingly provocative glance at Chimecho as it left.
Chimecho was even more irritated now.
It glared at Cosmoem, who had returned to eating its Pokeblock, before remembering that Yuga hadn't fed it yet. Quickly, it copied Cosmoem's actions, closing its eyes and opening its mouth, waiting for Yuga to feed it.
Yuga, laughing at Chimecho's childish antics, also fed it some food, and Chimecho grinned with delight.
Charizard, who was still tending to the fire, turned its head to look at Chimecho, thinking to itself: This guy's getting more and more ridiculous.
Yuga had cooked three dishes, each in ample quantity. If there was any leftover, he could store it in his system backpack, which would save him from having to cook again the next day.
After the food was ready, and the Pokémon had eaten their fill, Yuga left Charizard and Shasha to keep watch for the night, while the rest of the Pokémon were returned to their Poké Balls.
Once everything was set on the table, Yuga adjusted the lantern hanging on the tree to make the light brighter and then sat down to enjoy the carefully prepared dinner.
Looking at Shasha sitting across from him, Yuga asked, "Do you want to eat a little more?"
Shasha shook its head without saying anything, so Yuga continued eating.
Halfway through his meal, Yuga suddenly heard rustling in the nearby grass. Shasha and Charizard both turned their heads toward the source of the sound.
Yuga made a "shh" motion to his Pokémon and continued eating.
In the grass, a small black figure sniffed the air, savoring the tempting aroma, its mouth watering uncontrollably.
So hungry... I really want to eat...
Before long, Yuga, Shasha, and Charizard all noticed a shadow darting under the table. A vine slowly stretched out from beneath, dragging a plate of food from the table, attempting to pull it down.
Just as the plate was about to be pulled off, Yuga quickly grabbed the vine. At the same time, both he and his Pokémon heard a startled exclamation from under the table, and the vine released its grip on the plate.
Yuga tried to pull on the vine but couldn't move it. Charizard, seeing this, reached out and tugged on the vine, pulling with a sharp jerk. With a startled cry, a Pokémon with a completely green body was pulled out.
"Bulbasaur~"
A Bulbasaur, looked up at Charizard with a goofy expression, smiling at it in a friendly, endearing way.
Yuga looked at the Pokémon, surprised that so late at night, he had managed to catch a Bulbasaur.
...
[ Bulbasaur ]
Type: Grass, Poison
Ability: Overgrow
Gender: Female
Qualification: Green
Level: 20
Skills: Tackle, Leech Seed, Vine Whip, Stun Spore, Sleep Powder, Mud-Slap, Synthesis.
...
"Charizard~"
Charizard let out a roar at Bulbasaur, which startled it, causing it to shiver. Yuga then spoke up, "Alright, Charizard, let it down."
At Yuga's command, Charizard released its grip, and Bulbasaur fell onto the table.
With Yuga, Charizard, and Shasha all staring at it, Bulbasaur became very nervous, and its stomach began to growl loudly with hunger.
Yuga laughed and asked, "Are you hungry?"
Bulbasaur quickly nodded. It hadn't eaten in days. On this island full of dangers, the young Bulbasaur often went without food, sometimes eating only once every few days.
Fortunately, as a Grass-type Pokémon, when it couldn't handle the hunger anymore, it could sunbathe to absorb sunlight and use photosynthesis to sustain itself. It learned the skill Synthesis precisely because it was often hungry.
Yuga took out a plate and two Pokeblock: one labeled "Vitality" and the other "Mystery." He poured one of each into the plate, then said to Bulbasaur, "Eat up."
Bulbasaur sniffed the plate in confusion. A fragrant aroma filled the air, and it looked up at Yuga as if asking: "Are you really giving this to me?"
Yuga nodded and added, "Aren't you hungry? Go ahead and eat."
Bulbasaur finally extended a vine, picked up a Vitality Pokeblock, and placed it in its mouth. The moment it tasted it, a wave of indescribable deliciousness exploded in its mouth.
So tasty!
Then it picked up another Pokeblock, this one with a completely different aroma—Mystery. The flavor of Mystery was even more stimulating than Vitality, but Bulbasaur found both equally delicious.
Unfortunately, after just one Vitality and one Mystery Pokeblock, Bulbasaur couldn't help but burp, feeling full and stuffed.
Looking at the remaining Pokeblock in the plate, Bulbasaur hesitated, picking up one cube, then putting it back, torn between whether it should eat it or not. Its face was full of indecision.
At this moment, Yuga spoke up, "Do you want to come with me? If you follow me, you'll be able to eat this every day, and you can eat as much as you want."
"Bulbasaur~"
Really?
Bulbasaur's eyes brightened at the words. Would it really get to eat its fill every day?
Yuga nodded and said, "Of course, it's true."
Without thinking twice, Bulbasaur immediately nodded in agreement. Its biggest dream in life was to be able to eat until it was full every day.
After the meal, Yuga didn't immediately rest. Instead, he sat under a tree, using the light to organize the herbs he had gathered during the day.
Some of these herbs were very precious and rare, difficult to find outside. Yuga had preserved them well while gathering them, planning to plant them in his medicinal field when he returned.
While Yuga was organizing the herbs, Bulbasaur lay nearby, watching him.
"Bulbasaur~ Bulbasaur~"
What's this?
Yuga patiently explained, "These are herbs. They have many uses—some can heal wounds, others are edible. The energy cubes you ate also contain herbs."
"Bulbasaur~ Bulbasaur~"
I'll help you!
As soon as Bulbasaur heard that it could eat, it immediately became excited.
Yuga responded, "Alright, I'll teach you…"
And so, while organizing the herbs, Yuga began to teach Bulbasaur about the different types of herbs and their uses.
At first, Yuga only taught it out of boredom, but to his surprise, Bulbasaur was incredibly smart. It only took hearing something once for it to easily identify the types of herbs.
Yuga was both surprised and delighted, so he taught with more care. Bulbasaur learned very quickly and eventually remembered all the herb names and their appearances.
The next morning, during breakfast, Larvitar noticed a strange Pokémon in the group. Curious, it approached and soon became fast friends with Bulbasaur.
Both of these little ones had never had friends before, and suddenly having a new one was an exciting experience for them.
After breakfast, Yuga and his team set off again.
Yuga's goal was no longer just to uncover the island's secrets; he was also very interested in the island's abundant herbal resources. He decided to both explore the island's mysteries and gather herbs along the way.
He didn't put Bulbasaur in its Poké Ball. Seeing how enthusiastic it was about the herbs, he kept it by his side, gathering herbs and teaching it along the way.
However, Yuga didn't expect Bulbasaur to collect herbs much faster than he could. By the end of the half day, Bulbasaur had gathered 20 to 30 percent more herbs than Yuga had.
Could this be a talent? Yuga couldn't help but wonder.
