Chapter 23: Holy Swords - 3

As Issei stepped into his home, he got chills and was immediately greeted by the sound of lively laughter echoing from the living room.

Curious, he exchanged a glance with Asia before they both made their way inside. To his surprise, he saw his mother seated comfortably, chatting animatedly with two unfamiliar girls.

One of the girls had striking blue hair and golden eyes, while the other had bright orange hair and captivating purple eyes.

Their presence filled the room with an unfamiliar yet strangely comforting energy. Issei's mother noticed him and Asia entering and waved them over with a warm smile.

"Issei, Asia, come here! We have guests," she called out cheerfully.

Before Issei could process who they were, the orange-haired girl's eyes lit up with recognition. "Issei! Do you remember me?" she asked excitedly, stepping forward.

Issei blinked, taken aback. "Huh? Do I know you?"

The girl puffed her cheeks slightly, clearly disappointed. "It's me, Irina! Irina Shidou!"

Issei's confusion deepened as he tried to recall where he had heard that name before. His mother chuckled softly and reached for a photo album on the table. She opened it and pointed to a particular photo, handing it to Issei.

"Look at this, Issei. Remember your childhood friend?" she said with a teasing smile.

Issei stared at the old photo, his eyes widening in shock. It was a picture from his childhood, showing him playing with a boy who looked remarkably similar to the orange-haired girl standing before him.

"Irina… Shidou?" he muttered, realization dawning on him. "Wait, I thought you were a boy!"

Irina burst into laughter, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "A lot of people thought that back then! But nope, I've always been a girl."

Issei scratched his head, feeling both embarrassed and relieved. "Wow, this is crazy. It's been so long."

The blue-haired girl, quietly observed them, without saying anything, but here stares were anything but friendly.

Issei, was still processing the surprising reunion when irina spoke.

Irina grinned, her excitement undiminished. "We have a lot to talk about, Issei. But first, let's catch up!"

As they all settled into the living room, the atmosphere was filled with nostalgia.

...

After spending some time catching up with Irina. Issei and Asia watched as the two girls bid farewell and left the house. The unexpected reunion left a lingering sense of curiosity, but for now, it was time to return to their own routines.

Issei and Asia made their way upstairs to Issei's room, still processing the surprising visit.

As they entered the room, they found Rias already waiting for them, her expression clouded with worry. She had clearly sensed something was off, and her usual calm demeanor was replaced by concern.

"Issei, Asia," Rias began, her voice gentle but serious, "who were those girls? I could sense something unusual about them."

Issei sighed, taking a seat on his bed. "That was Irina and a girl named Xenovia. Irina is an old childhood friend. We used to play together when we were kids."

Asia chimed in, "Yes, they seemed friendly, but something felt… different."

Rias leaned forward, her crimson eyes focused intently on Issei. "Did they mention why they were here? Anything about their intentions?"

Issei hesitated for a moment, then shrugged. "Well, Irina said she came to catch up. She even showed me an old photo from when we were kids. I thought she was a boy back then!" He chuckled softly at the memory, but his expression quickly turned serious. "But… when they left, it felt like the only thing they really cared about was the fact that we're devils."

Rias frowned, her concern deepening. "That's what I was afraid of. If they're aware of our true nature, it could mean trouble. Especially if they're affiliated with the Church or any other faction."

Issei nodded, his brow furrowed. "Yeah, it felt like more than just a casual visit. They didn't seem hostile, but there was definitely something on their minds and its more likely the are affiliated with church because in they were carrying a holy sword."

Rias stood, her determination evident. "We need to be cautious. If they're here for a specific reason, it could involve the Church or something related to the supernatural world. We'll need to stay vigilant."

Asia clasped her hands together, a worried look on her face. "Do you think they might try to hurt us?"

Rias shook her head, offering a reassuring smile. "I don't think so, Asia. If they wanted to harm us, they would have made a move by now. But we can't ignore the possibility that their presence here might bring complications."

Issei leaned back, exhaling deeply. "Great, just when things were starting to settle down."

Rias placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "We'll handle it, Issei. Whatever their intentions are."

The room fell into a thoughtful silence, the weight of the situation settling over them. Despite the uncertainty, there was a sense of unity and determination among them. They knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them as a team.

For now, all they could do was wait and see.

.....

Sitting by the water's edge, Issei Hyoudou held a fishing rod in his hands, his expression a mix of confusion and contemplation. Beside him though he doesn't know his identity, Azazel, the Governor-General of the Fallen Angels, lounged casually with his own fishing rod, a relaxed smile playing on his lips.

Azazel had summoned Issei out for a casual fishing trip, Though Issei didn't fully understand what Azazel meant by that, he had accepted the invitation, hoping for some clarity amidst the confusion of the day's events.

After a few moments of silence, Azazel glanced at Issei, noticing the young devil's troubled expression. "You seem deep in thought, Issei. What's on your mind?"

Issei sighed, casting his line again. "It's been a weird day. Irina, an old childhood friend, showed up at my house with another girl, Xenovia. They're both from the Church. They said they're here on a mission, but it felt like they were more interested in the fact that I'm a devil now."

Azazel nodded, his interest piqued. "Ah, Irina and Xenovia. The Church must have sent them for something important. Did they mention what their mission was?"

Issei shook his head. "Not really. But if what we heard is true they should be here for finding about holy swords."

Azazel reeled in his line slowly, a thoughtful expression on his face. "The Church has been dealing with some missing holy swords. It makes sense that they'd send exorcist. Their mission might be more complicated than it seems."

Issei frowned, staring at the water. "Yeah, they should be finding something about the Excalibur fragments. But it's weird seeing Irina again. She was my friend, and now she's part of something that might end up clashing with us."

Azazel chuckled softly, casting his line once more. "The supernatural world has a way of complicating relationships. Friends can become enemies, and sometimes, enemies become allies. It's all part of the game."

Issei sighed, leaning back on his hands. "I just don't want anyone to get hurt. Irina and Xenovia… they seem determined, but I don't want to fight them."

Azazel gave Issei a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "You've got a good heart, Issei. That's one of your strengths. Just remember, sometimes you have to fight to protect what you care about. But that doesn't mean you have to lose yourself in the process."

Issei nodded, a small smile forming on his face. "Thanks, Azazel."

The two sat in comfortable silence for a while, in the gentle sound of the river. Despite the uncertainty there was a sense of calm in the moment. Issei felt a bit more at ease, knowing he had people like Azazel to guide him through the challenges of his new life.

As the night breeze flowed from the horizon, brushing the world in the its cool air, Issei and Azazel continued their quiet fishing, both reflecting on the events of the day.
