Chapter 35: Ch- 35: Uzumaki Uzumaki, Kabuto and Sound Ninja compete on the same stage
As they entered the hallway leading to the exam room, Naruto couldn't help but complain loudly.
"I can't believe Iruka-sensei didn't give me a proper strength test! He acted like I was some real enemy or something!"
Sakura tried to console him, glancing over at Sasuke, who seemed uninterested in their conversation. But she knew this day was important for him, too, perhaps more than any of them would realize.
"Look at all these people…" Naruto muttered, his eyes widening as they took in the crowded corridor filled with genin from various villages, each a potential rival in the Chunin Exam.
Sasuke observed them with a calm, calculating gaze. Among them, he recognized the Konoha team led by Maito Gai, consisting of Rock Lee, Neji, and Tenten—each of them possessing unique abilities that intrigued Sasuke. His attention lingered on Neji, in particular. Sasuke had heard about the strength and skill that came with Neji's Byakugan.
They continued down the hall, only to hear a familiar voice call out, "Hey, Sasuke!"
It was Rock Lee, stepping forward with an air of determination and confidence that made him stand out even among the crowd of skilled ninjas.
Sasuke looked him over and sighed, uninterested. But Lee's enthusiasm was unshaken.
"I want to challenge you, Uchiha Sasuke!" Lee announced, raising his voice so the whole hallway could hear. His words drew the attention of their fellow exam participants, but Sasuke merely crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow, unimpressed.
Meanwhile, Sakura's attention drifted, catching sight of Kakashi appearing out of nowhere. "Kakashi-sensei? Why are you here?" she asked, her voice laced with surprise.
Kakashi looked at his students, his visible eye filled with a rare mix of pride and satisfaction. "This is an exam that you three need to take together," he explained, his tone calm and reassuring. "Even though I was certain you'd participate, I had to confirm it myself."
Naruto's face lit up with excitement, while Sakura felt a sense of warmth at Kakashi's encouragement. But Sasuke sensed something different in Kakashi's words. He sighed, realizing this was a pivotal moment that could change everything.
"Sasuke, Naruto, Sakura—you're the team I'm most proud of," Kakashi said with a slight smile, prompting a nod from all three.
As they turned to enter the exam room, Sasuke glanced back at Kakashi, a newfound determination in his gaze. He knew the challenges they would face here weren't just physical; they would test their hearts, their minds, and their loyalty.
"Let's go, Naruto, Sakura…" Sasuke said confidently. The three of them stepped inside, greeted by a massive room filled with genin from every village.
"Wow, there are so many people," Sakura murmured, awestruck by the sheer number of participants. Naruto wore a similar expression, eyes darting around as he took in the sea of ninja gathered here.
Amidst the bustling crowd, a familiar voice rang out.
"Sasuke-kun! You're finally here—I've been waiting for you forever!" It was Ino, who had been waiting for her chance to see Sasuke again. Without hesitation, she launched herself at him, wrapping her arms around him in a bold embrace, her head resting against his shoulder.
Sasuke tensed at the unexpected closeness, feeling a mix of surprise and embarrassment. Meanwhile, Sakura's expression darkened as she watched Ino flirt with him, her irritation rising with every affectionate gesture.
"Ino, get off of him!" Sakura demanded, grabbing Ino's arm to pull her away. Ino, however, wasn't the least bit deterred, flashing a teasing grin.
"Aww, Sakura, jealous already?" Ino purred, deliberately brushing her fingers along Sasuke's shoulder. Her playfulness only fueled Sakura's annoyance.
Sasuke, maintaining his calm demeanor, gently pushed Ino away, giving her a small, dismissive smile. "Now's not the time for this, Ino," he said, his tone light but firm.
Sakura secretly felt relieved. It wasn't that she thought Sasuke was interested in Ino, but seeing him handle the situation so smoothly reassured her.
Just then, a voice broke through the tense moment. "Troublesome as always…" Shikamaru remarked, his voice carrying that familiar note of boredom. He approached, accompanied by Choji, both of whom seemed amused by the antics between the two girls.
Shikamaru looked at Sasuke and nodded. "Didn't think everyone from our class would be here for the Chunin Exams."
Kiba, Hinata, and Shino joined the group as well. "Oh, it's gonna be one hell of a competition, that's for sure!" Kiba said with a smirk, sizing up his classmates.
Hinata smiled shyly, glancing at Naruto with a quiet fondness that he didn't notice in his excitement. Meanwhile, Shino stood quietly, his gaze observant as ever.
Naruto, eager as always, couldn't resist boasting a little. "I'm gonna pass this exam and become a chunin before any of you!"
The others looked at him skeptically, shaking their heads with a mix of amusement and exasperation. Shikamaru rolled his eyes. "Right, Naruto. Sure."
Just then, a newcomer appeared—Kabuto Yakushi, a fellow ninja from Konoha. With a polite smile, he introduced himself, his demeanor friendly and approachable.
Ino crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow as she studied him. "And who are you exactly?"
"Kabuto Yakushi," he replied with a polite nod. "I'm just here to help. This is my seventh time taking the Chunin Exam, so I know my way around."
With a flick of his wrist, Kabuto produced a stack of ninja information cards, drawing everyone's attention. He began explaining the purpose of the cards, offering to share intelligence on the exam's participants.
As Kabuto handed out the cards, Sasuke observed him intently, but his thoughts were elsewhere. He knew Kabuto wasn't as simple as he seemed. While the others eagerly examined the information, Sasuke scanned the crowd, his gaze lingering on a particular figure with vibrant red hair.
"She's here…" he murmured, recognizing the kunoichi, Setsu. She was a formidable ninja from the Sound Village, a healer and sensory type with incredible chakra abilities. Sasuke felt a pang of sympathy for her; he knew that if left unchecked, she'd eventually fall into Orochimaru's clutches.
Sasuke's eyes softened. He couldn't bear the thought of her being consumed by darkness. If he could, he would save her, bringing her away from Orochimaru's influence. She could have a future, a purpose beyond serving a power-hungry madman.
At that moment, Setsu looked up, meeting Sasuke's gaze. She blushed, a surprised smile forming as she found herself captivated by his intense stare.
"Could he…could he really be looking at me?" she thought, her heart racing. She hadn't expected anyone, let alone someone as handsome and formidable as Sasuke, to notice her.
Naruto's loud voice shattered the moment. "Hey, you! Just so you know, I'm Uzumaki Naruto, and I won't lose to anyone!"
Sasuke sighed, shaking his head at Naruto's outburst, but the sentiment made him smile. Naruto's boundless confidence was infectious.
"Idiot," Sakura muttered, rolling her eyes at Naruto's antics, while Ino shook her head in agreement.
Meanwhile, Sasuke's attention was abruptly diverted by an approaching figure—Sound Ninja Sak. He moved quickly, his hand forming a one-handed seal as he prepared to attack Naruto.
Reacting on instinct, Sasuke stepped forward, his right hand flashing through a rapid series of hand seals. "Thunder Snake!"
A bolt of crackling energy burst forth from Sasuke's hand, slamming into Sak's chest and paralyzing him instantly. At the same time, Kabuto deflected another attack aimed at him, moving with surprising agility.
Sasuke turned to Naruto, a faint smile playing on his lips. "Next time, be more careful, Naruto. I won't always be here to watch your back."
Naruto gave a sheepish grin, rubbing the back of his head. "Yeah, yeah…thanks, Sasuke."
Sasuke's smirk deepened. He was growing more and more used to the thrill of these skirmishes and the way Naruto looked to him in admiration.
"Whoa! Did you see that?" came the murmurs from other genin in the room. Their awe was palpable, their respect for Sasuke growing with every passing moment.
Even Sakura and Ino couldn't hide their admiration. "Sasuke-kun…you were amazing!" Sakura said, her eyes shining with pride.
Ino nodded, glancing at him with a soft smile. "Yeah, that was…really impressive."
From across the room, Gaara, Kankuro, and Temari—the Sand Village's elite trio—watched in silence, their expressions unreadable. Neji, Lee, and Tenten stood nearby, equally taken aback by Sasuke's skill. Lee clen
