I ,Sasuke , Why Should I Defect To Konoha

Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Here Comes the Chunin Exam that Will Change Konoha

A few days later…

"Your task today is to clean the garbage in the river and help the customer walk the dog. Follow me to get your mission tools. First, clean up the garbage in the river..." Kakashi said lazily, arriving late at the 7th team meeting point.

"Another D-rank mission!" Naruto groaned, slamming his fist into his palm. "Kakashi-sensei, we've done several of these boring missions already. Aren't there any more exciting or dangerous ones? I'm so tired of these low-level tasks!"

"Next time," Kakashi said nonchalantly, "Next time, I'll help you get a C-rank mission. That's it."

Naruto scowled but didn't argue further. He knew Kakashi wasn't one to be easily swayed. He looked at Sasuke and Sakura, who were already walking ahead.

"Let's go, Sakura," Sasuke said as he motioned for her to follow. Sakura beamed and nodded enthusiastically, trotting to catch up.

"Wait for me, Sasuke! Wait up!" Naruto shouted as he quickly followed them.

The four of them soon arrived at the river where their task awaited. Kakashi stood by the bank, surveying the swift water.

"Yes, this is the river," Kakashi said, pointing to the churning waters. "Your job is to clean all the trash clogging the waterway. Be careful—this river runs fast. Even with the water-walking technique, you still need to be careful. You could get swept away if you're not careful."

Naruto scoffed and puffed out his chest. "Easy. I've got this!"

Sasuke and Sakura stepped forward, and Sakura was the first to use her chakra to walk across the river. She stepped gracefully onto the water's surface, her feet steady despite the current.

"Let's get to work," Sakura said, smiling at Sasuke.

Sasuke followed suit, stepping onto the water with ease. He gave a small nod to Sakura as they began cleaning.

Naruto watched the two of them for a moment, then gritted his teeth. "I'm not going to lose to you two!" he shouted, rushing forward with determination.

But before he could make it to the river, something unexpected happened. Naruto's foot slipped, and the next thing he knew, the ground beneath him disappeared. He let out a loud yell as he plunged into the river with a splash.

"Help! Help me!" he cried, flailing his arms in the water.

Sasuke, quick on his feet, immediately reached out to grab him. He caught Naruto by the arm and pulled him to safety, helping him out of the river.

"I told you the river was fast," Kakashi said, shaking his head. "If you can't maintain a steady chakra flow on such an unstable surface, you're bound to fall in. Your training in water walking clearly isn't up to par, Naruto."

Naruto's face turned red from both the cold water and embarrassment. He scowled, brushing himself off. "Hmph! Even if I fell in, I'll still finish this mission better than you two. Watch this!"

Naruto quickly formed the hand seals and shouted, "Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

With a loud bang, multiple clones of Naruto appeared on the riverbank. They immediately scattered and began cleaning the river, diving underwater to retrieve the trash.

Sasuke watched the clones work for a moment, then smirked. "Well, that should speed things up."

"Yeah, but it's still pretty boring," Sakura added. She bent down to pick up a stray piece of trash from the riverbank.

As the time passed, an hour went by. Thanks to Naruto's shadow clones, the task was finished quickly.

"Alright, that's it for the river," Kakashi said, turning to the next part of their mission. "Now, follow me to the customer's house to walk their dog."

The group followed Kakashi to the address, where they were greeted by a large, wild-looking dog.

"Naruto, are you sure about picking the biggest one?" Sasuke asked, eyeing the massive dog that Naruto had chosen. "You're not scared of it?"

Naruto grinned confidently. "Of course not! I've got it handled! I'm not backing down now."

Sasuke sighed and shook his head. "Fine, but don't come crying to me if you get dragged all over the place."

"Alright, alright," Naruto said, grinning. "You take care of the smaller ones then."

Sasuke nodded, though he wasn't exactly thrilled about it. As they prepared to head out with their respective dogs, Naruto suddenly jumped forward, tugged by the large dog on the leash. "Wait! Stop!"

The dog bolted, pulling Naruto along behind it as he struggled to keep up. Sasuke and Sakura watched in amusement as Naruto was dragged across the field.

"Come on, Naruto! You're supposed to be the strong one!" Sakura called out.

Sasuke shook his head, a small smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. He turned to Sakura. "Let's go. We should catch up to him."

They followed the chaotic scene for a while before Naruto finally managed to get the dog under control. Out of breath and covered in dirt, he grinned sheepishly at the others.

"See? Told you I could handle it," he said, trying to brush off his earlier struggles.

Just then, an unexpected sound rang out—a high-pitched eagle's call echoed through the air, catching Sasuke's attention. His eyes narrowed as he heard the sharp cry.

"That's a ninja eagle," he murmured. His expression hardened as he realized something.

"It's a signal..." Sasuke said, his voice low. The sudden realization hit him like a jolt. "The Chunin Exams... they're coming."

Sasuke's eyes flashed with determination, and his thoughts quickly turned to the upcoming challenges. The Chunin Exams would change everything.

"We're done here," Kakashi said as he turned to leave, his voice casual as ever. "Take care of the dogs, and then go back to the village. You can all get some rest."

Sakura looked up at Sasuke with a hopeful expression. "Sasuke-kun, now that the mission's over, do you want to go shopping with me? We could grab a bite to eat together."

Before Sasuke could answer, Naruto, still recovering from his ordeal, jumped up and yelled, "No! Sasuke promised me he would take me out to dinner for a whole month! You can go by yourself, Sakura!"

Sakura shot Naruto a glare, but her gaze softened as she turned to Sasuke. "Sasuke-kun… This is just between us, right?"

Sasuke didn't answer immediately, instead letting out a deep sigh. "Fine, let's go get something to eat," he said, clearly feeling cornered by both of them.

But before anyone could leave, a voice cut through the air.

"You're in the wrong village, Sunagakure ninja."

The group froze as a figure appeared behind them, and Sasuke's eyes narrowed in response. "You're too cocky for your own good," he muttered, not fazed by the challenge.

The figure's words were cold, and it was clear they were about to bring trouble to Konoha. Sasuke's mind raced, knowing this could be the beginning of something that would change everything.
