Ikuyo Kita was quite pleased with the photo she'd just sent to her friends.

Well, "quite" pleased was more accurate. After all, her phone's gallery contained plenty of other photos, taken at better angles and showcasing even more perfect moments with Saku Kamigawa. Those were far better than the one she'd chosen to send.

So, why hadn't she sent the best one?

The answer was simple: there was no need.

Her friends had only wanted to see what her "boyfriend" looked like. So why send them the best shot when any photo of Saku would do?

The day wasn't even over yet, so technically she and Saku were still "dating" as a pretend couple. Why should she, as his "girlfriend," share her boyfriend's best photos with other girls?

Just one photo was more than enough.

Friend A: Wow, he's so handsome! You two look amazing together!

Friend B: So jealous! If we hadn't been called away, we'd have gotten to see him in person!

Friend A: Hey, why don't you have him come out with us again, like today?

Seeing the message, Ikuyo felt a flicker of temptation.

True, that excuse could work a second time. Her friends hadn't come today, so all she'd had to do was snap a few photos.

If they were that eager to meet him, she could easily do this all over again.

But then—

Ikuyo Kita: Sorry, but my boyfriend's super busy and doesn't have time for casual hangouts.

Even if she was tempted, Ikuyo didn't want to bother Saku. Like she'd said, as an Instagram influencer, he really was busy. She already felt bad for taking up his time today.

Plus, he wasn't actually her boyfriend.

Friend A: Seriously? Isn't he just a high school student? How busy could he be?

Friend B: Yeah, I mean, what does he do? If he doesn't have time to hang out, how do you even date?

Ikuyo took these comments in stride, her fingers dancing across the screen with calm confidence.

Ikuyo Kita: He always makes time for our dates, but that time is just for us. Why should I share that with you two?

Ikuyo Kita: I definitely don't need two third wheels cramping our dates!

Ikuyo Kita: Hmph!

Friend A: How rude! We're your best friends, and you're throwing us over for him!

Friend B: Heads up, if my boyfriend's as hot as yours, I'll be throwing you two over just as fast.

Friend A: Good point.

Friend A: But still! Betrayal! You're officially guilty of ditching us for your man!

Friend B: In that case, next time we hang out, you're paying!

Friend A: Seconded!

Ikuyo Kita: Alright, alright!

Ikuyo turned over on her bed, smiling as she read her friends' messages.

Being longtime classmates and friends, they could joke around this way without it being taken seriously.

And just as she expected, they didn't mind at all. They knew it was just fun and games.

Still, Ikuyo offered a silent apology to them in her heart.

After all, she didn't have a boyfriend—this was all an act.

But it was too late to admit the truth now, and she'd have to keep the charade going.

Ikuyo Kita: Oh, and please don't spread it around that I have a boyfriend.

Ikuyo Kita: That'd just create a lot of unnecessary drama for me and him.

Friend A: Got it. Lips sealed.

Friend B: Don't worry, we won't say a word.

With that reassurance, Ikuyo settled back and continued chatting with her friends.

---

Meanwhile, Saku had wrapped up his chat with Chihaya Anon.

He could sense she had a certain level of interest in him, but it wasn't enough to be proof of any deeper feelings. So, as far as he was concerned, Chihaya Anon remained innocent—her feelings were still undecipherable.

Just like Ikuyo Kita's today.

Even though they'd done plenty of things that might seem intimate, their relationship hadn't actually changed in the slightest. It had simply been a day of playing "pretend couple."

Standing up, Saku started making his way over to Nagasaki Soyo's house, already thinking about the next day.

Tomorrow, he'd be going with Nyamu to pick out an instrument and discuss her possible appearances in his videos.

Looking back on it, he probably seemed like some kind of player.

Today he'd just finished a "date" with Ikuyo Kita, tomorrow he'd be out shopping with Nyamu, and now he was on his way to Nagasaki Soyo's house. And that wasn't even counting all the other times he'd met with the girls in his life.

But it was only a coincidence that he seemed like a player.

A real player was out to use someone's emotions or body, but all he wanted was to be friends with them. His intentions were totally different.

That's why Saku felt zero guilt over any of this.

If there was something wrong with wanting to make friends and meet new people, then everyone in the world was guilty.

And if it was only wrong for him, then that was a little much.

In that case, the entire world must be wrong, not just him.

With confidence, Saku continued on, completely at ease with what tomorrow might bring.

---

The next morning…

"Morning, everyone! Nyamu-nyamu! Lately, I, Nyamu, have started to get really interested in instruments, so today I've come to a music store to pick one out. Can you guess what I'll end up choosing?"

In front of a music store in Ochanomizu, Nyamu held up her selfie stick and began her daily filming routine.

"Hm, that intro looks good. No issues there."

As she reviewed the clip, Saku, in a mask, stepped out from nearby and approached her.

"Good morning, Nyamu. Hope I'm not interrupting?"

Though he asked, Saku had actually waited a good while, timing his approach to a moment when she wasn't filming.

"Oh! Good morning!"

Hearing the familiar voice, Nyamu looked up, then blinked in surprise.

"Wait—Saku? Is that you?"

"Yup. Did you forget what I look like?"

Saku pulled down his mask a bit to reveal his face.

They'd only met once before, but surely that was enough to remember his face.

After all, he liked to think it was a pretty memorable one. Even if she had forgotten, all she had to do was look for the most attractive guy around—that was usually him.
