I Died And Reincarnated Into Marvel as Goddess Artoria

Chapter 22: Chapter 22

Time Skip of a Few Days, a New Week has Started:

POV: Nick Fury

Nick Fury wakes up with a groan, his desk serving as his makeshift bed. A sharp buzzing on his comms startles him awake. He slams the button, his voice groggy but sharp.

"This had better be good."

Hill's Voice answers over the comms, "Sir, World Security Council's calling. Emergency meeting. And Stark—"

"I know about Stark. Sixty-eight hours left, give or take. Anything else?" Fury says, cutting her off mid-sentence.

"Roswell. Coulson says we picked up an anomaly there. Something big—" Hill tries again to inform her director but is cut off once more.

Nick groans at hearing about Coulson's report, "Tell Coulson I've got bigger problems than alien tchotchkes right now. Let me deal with this meeting, then Stark, then... whatever's crashing in Roswell."

Fury grabs his coat and heads to the conference room, his thoughts racing. He couldn't help but think of Artoria Pendragon. A reborn King Arthur builds Camelot overnight, declaring her intent to guide and protect humanity. That kind of power could have solved problems like the Red Room—if she were willing.

-------------------------------------------------

The chamber is dimly lit as before, with the glowing screens of the World Security Council flickering to life one by one. Fury strides into the room, a cup of coffee in hand, his exhaustion visible but his resolve unshaken. He hasn't slept in two days, and his usual sharpness is dulled by the weight of the chaos unfolding around him.

Fury's outward expression is stalwart, but the faint circles under his eye betray the stress of the past few days. The screens display the faces of the World Security Council members as they exchange quiet murmurs. The council members greet him tersely, their faces as serious as the matters at hand.

He sits down at the head of the table with a groan "Alright, what's so urgent you had to drag me out here this early in the morning? Is it something to do with me just getting a call this morning that Tony Stark is going to die in 72 hours or did some other mythological being appear out in the middle of nowhere?"

The American Representative clears his throat, leaning forward on his screen with a serious expression.

"Director Fury, we've got a new development that requires immediate attention. One of our highest-priority targets has resurfaced."

Fury raises an eyebrow. "Resurfaced? Who are we talking about here?"

"A ghost we've been chasing for a while. Goes by the name of Banner. Bruce Banner." The American Representative has a look of anger on his face as he says his name.

Fury stiffens, setting his coffee down as the weight of the name sinks in. His visible eye narrows as he leans back in his chair, processing the information.

"Banner? The big green guy we've been chasing for years? You're telling me you found him? After all this time? Thought he was off the radar."

The representative nods to Fury, "That's the one. He resurfaced at Culver University yesterday. General Ross attempted to apprehend him... and failed. Spectacularly. Ross's forces were torn apart."

Nick sighed at that. "Of course, Ross tried to grab him. Subtlety isn't in that man's vocabulary." He exhales sharply, setting down his coffee. "And now Ross has stirred up another mess I have to clean up. Fantastic."

The American tries to defend himself. "We've been tracking him for months. He's somewhere in the Northeast now. If he turns into the Hulk again, we're looking at a disaster."

"Banner's not the problem. The Hulk is. You want me to find a way to stop him before things go nuclear." Fury responds calmly, not fazed in the slightest.

The UK Representative jumps in, not wanting things to escalate. "This isn't just about stopping him. If we can contain him or... recruit him, the benefits could be enormous."

The Russian looks at the British woman skeptically. "Recruit the Hulk? Are you mad? That creature is a weapon of mass destruction."

Fury smirks at him. "That creature is also a man. And last I checked, Banner's not the type to go on a rampage without a damn good reason."

"Reason or not, he's a threat. What's your plan, Fury?" The Chinese Representative says, not really wanting to be here.

Fury pauses, considering his options. His mind drifts to Artoria. Her charisma, her power, her ability to command respect from anyone who crosses her path.

The United Kingdom Representative leans forward, a mix of concern and curiosity on her face.

"And this is happening during the same week you've been dealing with... Camelot, isn't it?"

Nick looked over at her crossing his arms. "You could say that. Camelot popping up overnight wasn't exactly on my to-do list, but King Arthur, Artoria Pendragon, to be precise, didn't seem to be looking for a fight. Can't say the same for Banner if Ross keeps poking him with a stick."

The French Representative butts in not able to contain their worry "Are you suggesting Artoria could... intervene? Surely not with someone as volatile as the Hulk."

The room erupts in a flurry of voices. The United Kingdom representative, especially, looks conflicted.

"You're suggesting we send King Arthur, our King Arthur, after the Hulk?"

Fury's one good eye narrows as he stands and paces in front of the holographic screen.

"Artoria's not just some random myth come to life. She's got the power to take down armies, possibly even cities, but she's also got the heart to stop a fight before it starts. I've seen it. She wants to be a beacon of hope, not a weapon of destruction. And if anyone can reach Banner without turning it into a demolition derby, it might just be her."

"You're putting a lot of faith in someone we barely understand. What makes you so sure, Fury?" The Chinese Representative responded skeptically.

"Because I've looked her in the eye, and I've seen what she stands for. She's not some power-hungry tyrant. She's a ruler who's made her share of mistakes and wants to do better. Hell, she even said she doesn't want to be perfect, just better. That's more than I can say for most people with her level of power."

The Russian Representative smirks faintly, his voice laced with dry humor.

"And what happens when the 'beacon of hope' decides she doesn't agree with our world's way of doing things?"

"Then we'll talk her down. But right now, we've got Banner loose, Ross breathing down our necks, Stark dying, and something weird happening in New Mexico that I don't have time for. If Artoria can keep Banner from turning a city into rubble, I'm willing to take the chance."

The Council falls into an uneasy silence, each member exchanging uncertain glances. Fury continues, his tone resolute.

"Artoria's got charisma that could rally armies, power that could topple mountains, and enough heart to make you believe in her. If she's willing to step in, we'd be fools not to let her try. Worst-case scenario, she gets through to Banner long enough for us to handle him properly."

The UK Representative looks hesitant but hopeful "And if she succeeds... it could change how we handle these kinds of threats. Perhaps she's exactly what the world needs right now."

Nick Fury looks at her with a faint smirk "Finally, someone's making sense. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to brief Artoria on what a Hulk is and why she shouldn't stab it with her lance."

She sighs, nodding reluctantly.

"If she can help... I'm willing to support this. But she must not be seen as our enforcer. She's a symbol of hope, not fear."

The Council chuckles nervously, the tension easing just slightly. As the holograms flicker off one by one, Fury mutters to himself, shaking his head.

"Camelot, a gamma-radiated scientist, a palladium poisoned billionaire, and a hammer crashing out of the sky. Just another Tuesday."

He exits the room, already pulling out his phone to call Coulson, who's been blowing up his inbox with reports about Roswell, New Mexico. Fury knows he's prioritizing, but deep down, he wonders just how much more his "big week" can throw at him.

------------------------------------------------------

Fury strides into his office, where Hill and Coulson are waiting. Coulson is holding a tablet, his usual fanboy grin creeping onto his face.

"Alright, here's the rundown. Banner's back, Ross is making a mess, and we've got another mystery in Roswell. Oh, and Stark's still on death's doorstep. Just another day in paradise."

Hill gives the director a deadpan look. "Sounds like a light morning."

Coulson responds with excitement dripping off him "Wait, are we finally going to talk about Camelot? I've been brushing up on Arthurian legends. Did you know there's a theory that Rhongomyniad—"

Fury cuts him off "Coulson, focus. We're sending Artoria after Banner."

Maria raised an eyebrow at that. "That's a bold move. You're sure she's up for it?"

"Hill, she built an entire kingdom overnight and summoned an army of magical knights. If anyone can handle a rampaging Hulk without breaking a sweat, it's her. Besides, she's got this whole 'hope and redemption' thing going for her. Maybe it'll rub off on Banner."

Phil nods enthusiastically at Fury. "She might be exactly what he needs. Someone who understands the burden of power and the struggle to control it."

"And if Banner decides to ignore her and start smashing things?" Hill asks dryly.

Nick smirks, enjoying the banter after the kind of day he's had. "Then I hope she's as good with that lance as she claims to be."

Fury grabs his coat and heads for the door.

"Coulson, prep the Quinjet. I'm heading to Camelot. And Hill, keep Ross out of my hair. Last thing I need is him turning this into a war zone."

"Got it. And Fury?"

He turns, eyeing Hill out of the corner of his eye.

Maria gave Fury a look showing genuine concern. "Good luck. You're going to need it."

Fury nods and walks out, leaving Hill and Coulson behind. Coulson watches him go, his grin widening.

"You know, if this works, it's going to make one hell of a story."

Hill sighs, thinking about what's possible to come. "Let's just hope it doesn't end in a tragedy."
