Chapter 25
Chapter 25. Divide and Conquer
Boom-!
Crash—
With one last powerful swing, I crushed the big boar's head, prompting a kill message to appear.
- You have defeated the big boar!
- You gained a small amount of experience points.
- Acquired Low-Rank Mana Stone. The mana stone will transfer to the Summoner's inventory.
- Trait 【Kleptomancy】 has been activated.
- Stealing a skill from the big boar at random.
- Acquired skill 【Reckless Charge】!
-----
Reckless Charge Lv.1
- Charges recklessly in the direction of the specified target. This skill cannot be canceled during casting.
- Crashes into the target with 300% attack power.
- During charge, defense and speed increase by 30%.
-----
Wow! Reckless charge... Despite the shoddy name, the skill design is pretty good, isn't it?
The issue is whether my body can handle it after the charge. This creature has a tough body so it doesn't matter, but for me...
It required a designated target to use and couldn't be canceled mid-charge, but it seemed very useful depending on how I used it.
"Phew— It's entirely different from what I read in the community posts. When it charged at me, even briefly, I felt the terror of death. Scary."
The battle must have been more challenging than she expected, seeing perspiration hanging precariously at the tip of her chin.
'Let's begin with butchering. Finally, materials for my armor... Wait a minute, but you're making this for my armor, right, Yeon-hee?'
I looked at her longingly as I took out a knife, and Yeon-hee quickly went on guard.
'Hmm— This is going to take some time.'
I forcefully stabbed the knife into the hide, slicing downward toward myself several times.
Finally, the hide split open, and I peeled away the tough exterior, swiftly removing the innards and hiding them in my inventory.
Though the innards wouldn't be used, they were the most urgent to discard to avoid attracting monsters with the smell.
Slash— Slash—
It seemed my strength still fell short, as cleaning the by-products took longer than I had calculated.
After 20 minutes, I finally peeled the hide completely and packed some of the most nutritious parts like the hind thigh and the loin into my inventory.
"Wow... really well done. How can you do it so cleanly if it's your first time?"
'Tsk...'
Since I couldn't admit I was skilled because it wasn't my first time, I focused purely on wrapping up quickly.
Pop-!
I pulled a tuft of mane from the big boar's neck and placed it in my pouch.
There was a particularly thick and dark hair, usually what they gave as a bounty.
After finishing up, I brushed off our spots and started moving again.
One big boar's mane fetched 4,000 won, a low-rank mana stone 7,000 won. These creatures weren't humanoid, so they didn't carry silver.
While better earnings than goblins, thinking about the effort put into it, it's not satisfying at this level.
Big boar meat is known to be nutritious and tastes good.
However, the ones in this dungeon have too many toxic parts, leaving limited edible portions.
Still, the hind thigh meat was non-toxic, allowing me to sell it at a decent price.
If caught in higher-grade dungeons, their toxins would be gone and it would taste heavenly.
Although I couldn't taste it, I still felt my mouth watering at the thought.
"Ilwol could use the hide for armor material, right? Hehe."
"Clack-clack-clack!!"
'Ah- Yeon-hee knows me well indeed.'
Nodding in satisfaction, I assessed the size of the creatures caught in my sensory net.
As I stopped and clenched my fists, Yeon-hee halted and crouched beside me.
Using pre-arranged signals from our apartment, I conveyed the information to Yeon-hee.
Two big boars and about 20 goblins.
This was the largest monster group we had encountered together.
Gulp—
Yeon-hee seemed quite tense, gulping deeply as she perked her ears in the direction of the creatures.
Rustle— Rustle—
Carefully approaching for a look, we saw two big boars, surrounded by goblins, leaning against a tree trunk.
Some goblins seemed mortally wounded, possibly gored by the big boars' horns, lying a bit away, struggling for life.
Big boars are solitary by nature. However, they pair up during mating until their offspring grow, and the current situation seemed such.
Compared to the big boars' size and stats, a few goblins were no match, but the scenario changed with nearly 20 goblins together.
In a 2 vs 20 scenario, the goblins had a racial trait of becoming much stronger in groups, making it a potentially favorable match.
'I couldn't steal the goblins' trait of gathering strength. Could that be a racial trait?'
Maybe it was just poor luck, but given the number I've dealt with, it seemed unlikely.
Squeeeeal!!
Cackling-!!
The big boars and goblins stood in brief deadlock.
Yeon-hee aimed, drawing her bow tight, targeting the exposed weak point of a big boar, accompanied by the taut string's creak.
Sensing the slight tremor, the big boar turned to our direction, letting out a shriek.
As it followed the big boar's gaze, the goblins locked eyes with Yeon-hee and hesitated, darting their heads back and forth, unsure of which side to attack.
But as soon as Yeon-hee began nocking her arrow, I got close to the goblins and I sprayed acid over a wide area.
Thwump—! Whoosh—
Immediately followed by arrows shot at the big boars.
The sequence of events happened almost simultaneously, plunging all the creatures present into chaos.
Squeeeeaaaallll—!!
Thud-thud-thud-thud-thud!!
As expected, the big boars reacted first.
The arrow-struck one charged towards Yeon-hee, while the other charged at the goblins scrambling from the sprayed acid.
Yet Yeon-hee deftly deflected the big boar's charge with a slime-turned-shield, and I gleefully bashed the small green creatures embroiled with the boars with a club.
Shwee-swish—
From the sound of the big boars' intense breathing, it was clear they were enraged, and the goblins vacillating between me and the boars ultimately lunged at the still-threatening big boars, initiating a collective beating.
However, due to the acid, the goblins' attacks fell short, while the big boar steadily jabbed each one with its horn.
Meanwhile, I deftly maneuvered between two species, ensuring neither side tipped the balance too much, delivering quick hits and retreats.
- You have defeated a goblin...
- You have defeated a goblin...
Squeeaaaak!!
"Ahhhh! Run, Ilwol!!"
As I was enjoying the experience points gained from defeating goblins, Yeon-hee's piercing scream reached me.
Turning my head quickly, I saw the slime wrapped around her arm sink to the ground like a congealed porridge.
'Did it die?'
Without time to mourn the first demise of Lime, I swiftly carried Yeon-hee up a tree, chased by the big boar.
【Adhesion】
'Come on— Please stick!!'
Even with F-rank mid-level strength, carrying someone and climbing a tree wasn't easy.
Crack— smack!
'Damn it!'
Slowed by the tree-climbing speed, goblins targeted me, hurling clubs and stones wildly.
'Worry about your own hides!'
Boom-boom-boom!!
The big boar, charging at me, snorted furiously, knocking over goblins like bowling pins in its way.
'Hah! You can't even climb.'
Stamina: 23(-15)
Though the tree climbing took a toll on my stamina, it was still manageable, and except for one big boar, the rest of the monsters were heavily injured.
Yeon-hee began to adjust her grip on her bow, watching the infuriated big boar jab horns at the downed goblins.
"Shooting from a tree for the first time though..."
Thwomp— Thwack!
Squeeaal!!
Thunk— Thud—
Squeeal! Squeal!!
With each arrow shot from above, the big boar started resembling a porcupine, but seemed reluctant to leave, worried for either its mate or partner that lay down.
Once I judged enough of its stamina had been sapped, I leaped down and charged at the remaining creature.
【Reckless Charge】
Upon activating the skill, everything except the targeted big boar was obstructed from sight.
True to its name, it was a straightforward attack, focusing only ahead.
Crash—!!
Squeeaal—!!
Even a colossal 200 kg wild boar rolled over several times, flung by my headbutt. My jaw dropped wide open at the unexpected outcome.
Stamina: 7(-31)
Of course, my bones weren't left unscathed. Despite the defense boost from Reckless Charge, my stamina had plummeted drastically.
'I really should use this only at crucial moments...'
The creature writhed momentarily before collapsing, signaling its time had come to an end.
- You have defeated a Big Boar...
- You have leveled up!
Kill messages adorned my vision, and I gained a level. Feeling my stamina quickly replenish, Yeon-hee and I began cleaning up the remaining monsters together.
Thud—!!
Squeaal—
- You have defeated a Big Boar...
While the actual count of monsters we finished wasn't as high, the messages suggested I provided significant help, gifting us with satisfying experience and gains.
"Would it be a stretch to butcher both of them?"
"........"
