Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Thor the Power Bank, Let’s Go!
"No wonder Odin chose you as king," Thanos remarked as his Overlord Sky Blade spun back into his grip. His tone was cold, unfazed, as if the bloody wound on his chest didn't exist. "If you're allowed to grow unchecked, you might even surpass me. You'd become the greatest threat to universal balance."
Despite the fierce wound on Thor's arm, Thanos watched in shock as it healed rapidly, the flesh knitting back together before his eyes.
"That kind of resilience," he thought, "paired with that extraordinary defense... it's all too familiar." He recognized the traits: incredible endurance, rapid recovery. It was reminiscent of a powerful figure from his own Eternal race—someone who didn't need food, sleep, or air to survive and was immune to most physical and magical attacks. That being, like Thor, had regenerative powers that repaired cells, tissues, and even organs at breakneck speed, making them impervious to toxins, diseases, radiation, and extreme conditions.
But that was all irrelevant now. That former comrade hadn't shared Thanos' ideals and was ultimately destroyed, along with everyone else on Titan. That destruction marked the first step in realizing his dream.
"But none of this will come to pass, because you won't live that long," Thanos declared, his voice calm yet menacing.
Thor sneered, eyes flashing with lightning. "You can't beat me now. If you don't believe it, give it a try…"
Thor summoned a storm of lightning, which slammed into Thanos, throwing him back tens of meters. He cloaked himself in a spinning vortex of electricity, hurling bolts toward his opponent.
On the sidelines, Eitri, the dwarf king, watched in astonishment. "He's charging right at Thanos, weaponless! Is he insane?" But just as he thought that, Thor turned midair and redirected his charge toward Ebony Maw instead.
Without Gungnir in hand, he knew he couldn't pierce Thanos' defenses directly. Only a fool would fight him bare-handed. Better to deal with Ebony Maw first and let Captain Marvel keep Thanos busy in the meantime.
In the earlier skirmish, he'd learned a few things about Man of Steel. While formidable, it wasn't invincible, and it couldn't be used as a weapon to directly counter the Overlord's Blade.
Corvus Glaive lunged with his double-bladed spear, but Thor swatted it aside and threw Corvus himself backward, sending him tumbling straight toward Thanos. Without missing a beat, Thor closed in on Ebony Maw, catching him off guard with a punch that sent him sprawling.
Realizing he'd been outmaneuvered, Thanos charged after Thor.
"Hey, Carol!" Thor called, struck by an idea. He placed his hand on her shoulder, sending a steady stream of electricity through her.
Carol shivered, her entire body glowing brighter as the surge of energy amplified her strength. Light pulsed from her hands, more intense than ever, and she fired a continuous energy wave toward Thanos.
With a grunt, Thanos raised the Overlord's Blade, spinning it in a defensive shield, pushing forward against the blinding energy wave.
"Another boost!" Carol shouted. Thor pressed both hands onto her shoulders, doubling the charge. A golden light tinged with blue flared in her eyes.
"Take this!" she roared, releasing an explosion of energy.
The dwarves of Nidavellir gasped. For a brief moment, it was as if a second sun had ignited on the battlefield. The sudden, blazing light made the surroundings appear dark as night in comparison. Where the energy blasts collided, a cataclysmic explosion erupted, triggering powerful shockwaves. Thor, Carol, and even Thanos were sent flying backward.
The shockwave cleared the smoke, and Thor quickly rushed over to Wanda. He shielded her, turning his back to the approaching wave of force. Wanda's physical endurance was no match even for a dwarf, and a shockwave like this was more than she could handle.
Meanwhile, Corvus Glaive rolled helplessly across the ground. Ebony Maw fared slightly better, positioning Cull Obsidian's massive corpse in front of himself to absorb the brunt of the blast.
As Wanda's eyes fluttered open, she noticed Thor's protective hold on her. She blushed slightly and pushed herself upright.
"You're awake?" Thor asked.
"Yeah," Wanda nodded, though her voice was faint. "Still a little dizzy. I'm not sure how much I can help right now, at least not against that purple giant…"
"It's okay. Just standing up is enough," Thor assured her. "Stay focused and keep your emotions in check."
Even at partial strength, Wanda's presence alone was intimidating enough to distract Ebony Maw, giving Thor and Carol the edge they needed.
