Chapter 9: A Lesson On Magic Frequencies
"Father from what I have gathered from all our time together as a family, I know that your background is anything but ordinary, and you must have left that life for a reason.
Don't you think that showing off like this now would defeat the whole purpose of whatever it is you are trying to achieve," Orson chided.
"Well, that's for me to worry about, it has nothing to do with you, " Peter responded.
"Ok, if you say so. So, you've had this the whole time but never used it to ease our work. Always making me do the heavy lifting, " Orson said.
"You! Heavy lifting! Oh please! " Peter said in between chuckles.
"Tell you what, if you let me take that ring off your hands, I might forgive you for all the stress you've put me through, " Orson said.
"Hahaha! I would have, but not after the stunt you killed this evening, letting this old man close shop, " Peter said.
"Hey, it isn't fair, " Orson said.
"Yes, it is. Just forget about the ring, we have other things to discuss, " Peter said.
"What things are more important than the discussion we're having now?" Orson asked, sounding like he was about to cry.
"Well, it's about your magic affinity, " Peter said.
"Yeah, what about it? I know it's zero, " Orson said.
"Uhm, you're right, just wrong, " Peter said.
"What do you mean? " Orson asked.
"Well, for some time now, although I only noticed it recently, you have been subconsciously drawing Mana. When it happens, it's usually only just for a second. This clearly means that you have a chance of awakening your magic power, " Peter said.
"But if this is so, why is it that me, who owns this body, has never sensed this? " Orson asked.
"That, I do not know, " Peter replied.
"Well, I think it's BS, " Orson said.
"Tch! You can't fool me. Don't think I don't know that one of the reasons you want to get power, well, power and money, is to be able to have the chance to undergo one of those magic awakening procedures.
Well news flash, instead of undergoing any of those procedures, it's better to not have any magical power, " Peter said.
"Easy for you to say, you're not the one who can't use magic, " Orson said.
"And that's why I'm telling you now of your dormant magic power. I know you're just paying no need to what I'm saying because you don't want to face disappointment, but what I'm telling you is almost a sure thing.
Or do you think I've forgotten your obsession with magic? "Peter asked.
"I have never obsessed over magic, or, not in the way you think. To the best of my knowledge and resources, I've studied magic, its applications, uses, etc. But I've not even scratched the surface of what I'm trying to achieve. Still, I'm not giving up, " Orson said.
"Very good then, when you're done talking and thinking and whatever, you can ask me how I want to help in your awakening, " Peter said, yawning.
"Ok, you win. So father, how can you assist me in awakening? " Orson asked.
"Stop saying I win like I'm forcing you. If you don't want this, then just say it; in fact, I see clearly that you don't want to try whatever is it that I have planned, so good day, Orson, and good night, " Peter said with a frown on his face.
He then started taking off his clothes, readying himself to get into the bathroom, bathe, and then call it a night. When Orson saw this, he quickly behaved himself and he didn't think before calling out to Peter.
"Hey! I'm sorry for messing around, I thought it would lighten the mood, " Orson said.
"Was the mood heavy? " Peter asked.
"Please just accept my humble apology, " Orson replied.
"Sigh, ok, let's do this then, " Peter said.
"So, how is it going to be done, " Orson asked.
"Well, it's simple; you just have to have direct contact with a source of naturally concentrated and condensed magical energy, like Mana stones, " Peter said.
"Sounds simple enough, but why must it be natural? " Orson asked.
Peter smiled and explained.
"I know you already have a theory in mind, but let me just satisfy your curiosity. Every single thing in this world, from living things to nonliving things, has its unique magical signature, but nonliving things tend to have a more neutral magic frequency.
Of course, objects can be imbued with magic by someone, but then, the magical energy isn't neutral again. Neutral in the sense that almost every living thing can absorb it without an issue.
You see, your magical frequency or signature is just like your blood group. Thanks to the massive leaps in the medical community, we know that everyone has a type of blood that falls into groups, and if you should transfuse blood into someone, and the blood being transfused is of a different group than the host, there is a high chance the host will die if countermeasures are not taken immediately.
Then again, just like Mana stones, which are neutral and everyone can absorb their magic energy, there is a certain group of blood that can be transfused into almost everyone with a different blood group, but if you try to do it the other way around, blood rejection still occurs again.
That certain blood group can give to all, but not receive from any apart from itself. So it is with neutral sources of energy. You can try to absorb the energy from Mana stones without an issue but try to imbue your magic energy into the Mana stone and see what happens, you'll destroy the Mana stone, and if maybe it's not a Mana stone, but a source of great magic energy, even greater than yours, chance is that, they will be a backlash and you might die, "
"Hmmm, I guess your parents never let you off the hook when it came to your studies, " Orson quipped.
"You have no idea, " Peter responded, shaking his head.
