Chapter 8: Chapter 8: What Are You Waiting For?
A confident judgment and a responsive
execution.
It's truly frustrating…
It's like accidentally exposing a corner of your underwear and having someone guess
the style.
The key is that the one doing the guessing is just a kid.
But the problem lies in—
What exactly has happened to this kid?
Zazan feels a strong sense of unease rising within him, followed by a quiet surge of
killing intent.
While tasks and responsibilities are important, he cannot tolerate this sudden
situation filled with "strangeness and unknowns."
It's irritating and unsettling.
Should I kill him…
As Zazan silently contemplates, he glances at Moro's bleeding knee, his brow
furrowing slightly.
This "blood bag" holds high priority; for now, it's best to observe.
After all, a wound has already been opened; it can barely meet the conditions for his
ability to activate, but it just means he needs to "wait" a little longer.
So he decides to wait patiently for a few more minutes.
Once the effect of his "Data Flying Knife" ability activates, he can directly control
Moro.
In this brief moment, Zazan feels a surge of killing intent but suppresses it, ultimately
settling on his course of action.
"They say things don't happen more than three times; I think that applies here."
Zazan collects his emotions and casually plays with the flying knife in his hand, his
voice turning cold: "So don't think about escaping; that way you might still have a
chance to live."
"Hmm, they also say listening to advice leads to a full stomach; I think that applies
here too."
Moro stares intently at Zazan's Nen fluctuations and calmly responds: "So I'm not
thinking about escaping; that way you might still have a chance to catch me."
"..."
Zazan's mouth twitches slightly.
If it weren't for the constraints of his so-called responsibilities and the need to wait to
satisfy the conditions for his ability…
The flying knife in his left hand would have already been thrown at Moro instead of
engaging in this verbal sparring.
Since jumping out of the truck, Moro has been observing Zazan's Nen energy.
Some thoughts and emotions can sometimes be revealed through fluctuations in Nen
energy.
A skilled person certainly wouldn't allow their Nen energy to expose information.
But Zazan clearly hasn't reached that level yet.
Moro sees through Zazan's shift in killing intent clearly.
This indicates that Zazan's principle of "not harming the cargo" could be flexible
based on circumstances.
Thus, Moro believes Zazan's statement is serious and completely dismisses any
thoughts of using Zazan as leverage to find an escape opportunity.
After all, holding back during pursuit versus attacking without restraint involves
different levels of risk.
He can only… confront the problem head-on now.
Moro consciously spreads his emitted aura evenly throughout his body.
Although he opened his aura points in haste, the adaptation speed is not slow; the
synchronization between his body and Nen energy is tightening up.
Given the current progress, he shouldn't have to worry about any unexpected delays
in synchronization and feedback between Nen energy and his body.
This is crucial… after all, my margin for error is very low.
While keeping an eye on Zazan, Moro reflects inwardly.
Both sides have motives for "waiting," so the rugged mountain road where the truck is
located suddenly becomes somewhat quiet.
Moro is waiting for his body and Nen energy to coordinate properly to lower the
probability of mistakes.
Zazan, having gained the initiative, prefers to resolve issues without conflict if
possible.
Thus, within this somewhat strange atmosphere, neither side attempts to break the
silence; they maintain an odd tacit understanding.
One minute passes, then two minutes, then three…
As time goes by, both Moro and Zazan's mentalities begin to shift.
Zazan believes he has the upper hand and holds initiative; thus when he sees Moro
remaining still, he doesn't waste much thought on it.
All he needs to do is wait for his ability to activate before resolving the issue
immediately.
Moro is different; he has much more to consider.
From a hardware perspective on the surface level, there's no doubt that Zazan is
stronger.
However, after the knife attack earlier, Moro realizes that Zazan seems to lack any
sense of urgency regarding "time."
And therein lies the problem.
I am waiting for an opportunity for battle; what is he waiting for?
Moro's gaze sweeps over Zazan's left hand gripping the flying knife.
Being left-handed suggests a high probability of being an emission-type user, but this
assumption can only serve as a reference point.
Another characteristic of emission-type users is that they subconsciously gather more
Nen energy in their dominant hand.
However, accuracy in judgment depends on whether or not an emission-type user has
activated their ability yet.
When he jumped out of the truck and immediately turned back in caution—at that
time Zazan already had a flying knife in hand.
Moreover, from the bulging outline on Zazan's jacket, it's highly likely that several other
flying knives are concealed inside.
Additionally, after jumping out of the truck earlier, Moro had specifically checked on
what was happening inside; that flying knife was still there…
While it's possible there are multiple manifested objects concealed within him, given
current information it seems unlikely that Zazan's flying knives are anything but
manifested objects.
This also eliminates any possibility that these manifested objects possess special
abilities—thus temporarily relieving him from considering inherent risks such as using
them to create wounds as a means to achieve desired effects from certain abilities.
From analysis results thus far—even leaning toward an optimistic view—however…
Diving into deceit within the antique industry not only provided Moro with
opportunities to develop "Fraudulent Star," but also taught him something valuable.
That is—based on opposing interests during confrontations—the thoughts or goals
expressed through another party's words or actions will invariably be outcomes one
wishes to avoid.
So even if Moro cannot extract more useful information from existing data; he realizes
that continuing to wait may yield returns lower than risks involved.
Given their current compatibility level, should be able to bypass foundational steps
directly and smoothly utilize "Fraudulent Star," right?
He should… be able to?
Moro doesn't have complete confidence; however amidst adversity there are no
chances left for verification.
As thoughts swirl while making decisions, Moro first locks onto the handgun that has
fallen closer to him on the ground before gathering Nen energy into his right palm.
A small egg-sized green Nen sphere emerges gently like a sprouting seed revealing
itself softly.
On one side of the cargo truck.
Zazan's eyes flash with surprise.
Nen ability…?!!
He had only just opened his aura points not long ago…!
In an instant, alarms blare in Zazan's mind as shock gives way to killing intent
replacing it entirely.
At this moment, Moro successfully activates "Fraudulent Star."
An egg-sized green Nen sphere shoots from his palm directly toward Zazan's chest.
Uncertain about Moro's exact abilities but seeing how slow the star travels allows
Zazan enough time to sidestep away from its path.
Simultaneously,
Moro picks up the handgun lying on the ground before aiming at Zazan while pulling
the trigger repeatedly.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Eleven bullets fly toward Zazan one after another.
Zazan's expression turns cold as he leaps sideways again while evading incoming
bullets.
"P922—twelve rounds."
After dodging bullets successfully, Zazan slightly raises his flying knife while slowly
approaching Moro coldly: "You fired eleven shots just now; were you saving one round
hoping for a comeback? But what I'm more curious about is…"
At this point, Zazan's killing intent intensifies significantly.
"You're quite familiar with firearms…and with Nen abilities…so who exactly are you?!"
Bang!
In response to Zazan's inquiry comes another bullet fired from Moro's gun—the last
round remaining in its chamber.
But at the same moment as gunfire rings out, Zazan throws his flying knife.
The bullet infused with scorching energy and the knife wrapped in Nen energy pass
each other through mid-air as they each head toward their respective targets.
Zazan remains expressionless; confident that even if hit by one bullet he could endure
its impact while believing firmly that his thrown knife will eliminate Moro entirely.
Given how events have unfolded far beyond expectations—he can no longer afford
concern about how he will report back—he sends icy glances toward where his knife
heads toward Moro while channeling Nen energy to block against bullets coming at
him.
Thud—
But before he can see whether or not his knife pierces through Moro's body—a sudden
pain strikes him from behind causing instant disorientation as blood pours from his
mouth profusely.
"What…what…"
The sudden attack leaves Zazan shaken as consciousness begins fading away amidst
confusion.
On another side.
The tip of the flying knife wrapped in Nen energy has pierced through Moro's skin.
However it cannot advance any further; instantly transforming into mist-like form
before slowly dissipating into thin air.
Huff.
As dust settles down again, Moro lowers his arm holding onto the gun.
At this point he still cannot determine what type of Nen ability Zazan possesses.
Yet he feels fortunate that he is currently dealing with someone like Zazan.
If it were any other type of Nen user with different personality traits—he might very
well face death once again.
