Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Fraudulent Star
Half a year.
This is the time Moro has spent mastering his Nen abilities.
In terms of technique, emitted aura, and even potential aura…
Moro is far inferior to the seasoned veterans before him. Worse still, he lacks combat
experience with Nen abilities.
He—
Has never had much ambition.
If he had to say something, it would be to live well and enjoy good food and sleep.
Thus, he never proactively sought trouble; he simply earned money to repay Morena
while quietly honing his Nen abilities.
As for battles, he has fought with Saixin a few times as an enhancement-type user.
But those were merely trivial skirmishes at best.
Now, in a life-or-death situation, will he regret not spending more time improving his
strength?
Moro feels no regret; rather, he doesn't have the luxury to dwell on such thoughts.
He only knows… that he must rely on his own Nen abilities to find a glimmer of hope in
this seemingly fatal situation.
But before using his Nen abilities, he needs to create an opening—
In the brief silence, Moro's mind races.
Chrollo stopped Shalnark from attacking out of curiosity, but Moro doesn't believe
Chrollo will patiently wait for his response.
After all, there's also Pakunoda's memory search ability, which could easily extract all
hidden information after capturing him alive.
Moreover, even if he directly reveals the name of Chrollo's Nen ability and the oaths
and restrictions it entails, it likely wouldn't break Chrollo's concentration.
So how can he make use of this limited opportunity to "speak"?
What can he say that would strike at the hearts of these people before him?
Faced with this life-threatening crisis, Moro's brain cells burn furiously.
Then a name naturally surfaces in his mind—
Salasah.
The owner of this name is the catalyst for the formation of the Phantom Troupe and a
lingering concern for Chrollo and his companions.
"Salasah."
Without any hesitation, Moro loudly utters this name that has been buried deep within
Chrollo, Pakunoda, and Hisoka's hearts.
On the street amidst the rain,
A name that should not have appeared at this moment reverberates with a surging
force, shaking the hearts of Chrollo, Pakunoda, and Hisoka.
Why does this boy know Salasah's name?
Just as their confusion begins to rise, Moro makes his move.
"Fraudulent Star"
Moro raises both hands and gathers a fist-sized green Nen sphere in each palm.
Then the green spheres fly from his hands straight toward the dazed Pakunoda and
Hisoka.
Directly hitting their opening!
The green spheres reach Pakunoda and Hisoka in an instant.
However, Shalnark—who shows no reaction to Salasah's name—pushes Hisoka aside
at the last moment to dodge the incoming Nen spheres.
Almost simultaneously, Chrollo—whose temperament is far from ordinary—manages
to stabilize himself at the critical moment and pulls Pakunoda away just in time.
Both green spheres miss their targets.
Meanwhile,
Moro is sprinting toward the sidewalk.
The person guarding the back door…
From the overwhelming killing intent emanating from them, they must be a special
operations member of the Phantom Troupe.
Thus, Moro cannot afford to approach that side before they reveal themselves.
His only escape route lies along the sides of the sidewalk!
He glances back quickly at Chrollo's direction.
The Fraudulent Star has missed its mark…
Ultimately, it boils down to his lack of proficiency in "casting," preventing him from
releasing his ability faster.
But it cannot be denied that during this brief encounter within a minute, Moro truly
recognizes Chrollo's exceptional prowess.
These well-known characters from the original work are not easy to deal with.
Moro averts his gaze; despite missing with Fraudulent Star, he feels no
disappointment whatsoever.
His Fraudulent Star has two phases…
"Sorry."
On the empty street, Hisoka comes back to himself with a frown.
Shalnark gives Hisoka a strange look before turning his attention to Moro running
through the rain and begins to chase after him.
Chrollo's eyes turn cold as he swiftly passes Shalnark and breaks through layers of
rain mist while pursuing Moro.
Hisoka and Pakunoda regain their composure shortly after.
Though confusion remains, as long as they capture Moro alive, all their questions can
be answered.
They follow closely behind.
Ahead,
Moro glances back at Chrollo and his companions who are hot on his heels.
"Almost there…"
Calculating time in his mind, Moro raises his right hand in preparation for welcoming
back his star.
His Fraudulent Star ability is an emission-type composite ability with an attack range
of only one hundred meters.
When the star reaches its maximum distance, it will freeze in mid-air for 1-5 seconds.
Moro can set how long it will pause before unleashing it.
Once the set pause time ends, its power, speed of fire, and size will double; then it will
reverse course toward Moro like a guided missile.
The power amplification effect during its second phase is precisely this ability's oath
effect.
The accompanying restriction is—
The returning star will also inflict damage on Moro himself.
In other words, if there's nothing else blocking the star's path, Moro must find a way to
dodge it or endure its impact.
The reason behind setting such restrictions lies in the tree rings on the back of his
right hand.
Underneath these rings' coverage, his entire hand resembles an indestructible
shield…
Thus he can use his hand to block against returning stars.
Having calculated time accurately, Moro suddenly adjusts his position without
warning.
Amidst the relentless sound of wind and rain, two faint sounds suddenly ring out.
Following that are two deep green lights piercing through the rainy night toward
Pakunoda and Hisoka carrying an air of danger.
The sudden occurrence catches them off guard; coupled with Chrollo and Shalnark
pursuing ahead means that this time Pakunoda and Hisoka receive no assistance
whatsoever.
As the enhanced stars come rushing in, Hisoka barely reacts in time and manages to
shift slightly to evade.
The star strikes him in the abdomen; instantly tearing away a large chunk of flesh as if
bitten by a massive maw filled with blood.
Pakunoda is slightly slower on her feet.
Amidst splattering blood, her face jolts as her upper body is blown away by one star
creating a gaping wound; her body collapses forward onto the ground instantly losing
strength.
This sudden turn of events causes both Chrollo and Shalnark's pursuit rhythm to falter
momentarily.
Seeing this opportunity unfold before him, Moro quickly channels over half of his
emitted aura into his legs and continues sprinting forward at full speed.
He has done everything humanly possible—
If he still can't escape then he'll accept whatever fate awaits him.
Just as these thoughts cross his mind, out of the corner of his eye flashes by a fleeting
visage—a shadowy face with an ominous expression filled with boiling rage.
Feitan?!
As soon as this thought arises within him, Moro feels a chill run down his nose;
consciousness suddenly severs like a fraying string instrument string—seemingly slow
yet incredibly fast—stripping away any sense of awareness from him entirely.
In those final moments, one question surfaces in Moro's mind:
Am I… dead?
.......
Coldness envelops him; trembling ensues.
Moro abruptly opens his eyes to find himself surrounded by vertical rusty iron bars.
It appears to be an iron cage.
"Where am I…?"
As he takes in his surroundings clearly now, he finds himself momentarily stunned.
The sensation of life being extinguished lingers faintly but quickly gets replaced by
some memories flooding back into him.
He has returned to that moment from a year ago when he first crossed over!
