Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Crisis X Unraveled
Why—
Is Shalnark of the Phantom Troupe here?
And he has transformed into Saixin's appearance; this is clearly a targeted operation.
Looking at Shalnark, who has undone his transformation ability, Moro's pupils
tremble.
In an instant, Moro thinks of many things.
He confirms that Shalnark has come specifically to cause him trouble.
Then he considers Saixin's predicament and the possibility of other Phantom Troupe
members nearby.
The worst-case scenario would be a collective action from the Phantom Troupe, with
him as their target.
But—
What are their motives and reasons?
Moro has never had any interactions with the Troupe.
Could it be a whim, or do they have their eyes on his antique shop?
That seems unlikely.
The value of the antique shop is negligible in Youkexin City. With the Phantom Troupe's
audacity to steal everything from an auction house, they wouldn't be interested in his
shop.
A whim?
Even less likely.
If it were truly a whim, they wouldn't have gone through the trouble of targeting Saixin
first or employing such a cautious method as transformation.
This is clearly a premeditated plan aimed at ensuring the success of their operation.
And among the Troupe, the one who would insist on such methods…
Chrollo Lucilfer.
The worst possibility.
This indicates that the Troupe members targeting him include not only Shalnark but at
least Chrollo and Pakunoda, who is inseparable from Chrollo.
This is dangerous…
But in such moments, one must remain calm.
Why does the Phantom Troupe want to target him?
There's no point in digging deeper into that now; what he needs to consider is how to
escape this perilous situation.
Moro suddenly steps back, grabbing an ashtray from the visitor's desk as he passes by
the front door.
In the midst of wind and rain,
Shalnark notices Moro's actions but doesn't seem to care. Even after his disguise was
exposed, he doesn't rush to attack.
He hasn't completed the mission assigned by the leader, but that won't change the
outcome.
"Hmm?"
Shalnark suddenly raises an eyebrow.
A dull thud resounds within the antique shop, followed by all lights going out, plunging
everything into darkness.
Seeing this scene, Shalnark realizes that Moro grabbed the ashtray to destroy the
circuit breaker as quickly as possible.
But what good does that do?
Shalnark still makes no move, standing still in the wind and rain.
In the pitch-black antique shop,
Moro looks towards the back door and can clearly feel a surging and violent killing
intent—there's no hint of concealment whatsoever.
He's blocked off.
Moro lets out a breath.
From Shalnark's actions, he deduces that there's a high probability Chrollo and
Pakunoda are nearby, but clearly more than just three…
With no intention of confronting the killing intent at the back door, Moro tries to remain
as calm as possible and then walks out of the antique shop.
In just that short time, three people have appeared on the street.
The leader has short black hair with a purple cross tattoo on his forehead. His deep
black eyes convey a calm demeanor but hint at a touch of coldness.
To his left stands a tall and voluptuous blonde woman with striking features marred by
an aquiline nose.
To his right is a doll-faced young man with blonde hair and bright green eyes, wearing a
cheerful smile.
Chrollo, Pakunoda, Hisoka.
Some distinct features immediately allow Moro to recognize their identities, causing
his heart to sink.
Chrollo looks at Moro with his hands in his pockets as if observing a lifeless object
devoid of any meaning.
Beside him, Hisoka places one hand on his hip and smiles: "Very alert and decisive; it
seems he knows we…"
"Let's control him first," Pakunoda interjects while crossing her arms over her ample
chest.
Chrollo silently raises his right hand, channeling Nen into his palm.
Watching Chrollo manipulate Nen, Moro's expression hardens; there's not a hint of
emotion in his voice:
"The Phantom Troupe… really thinks highly of me. But we've never had any direct or
indirect contact before, have we?"
Chrollo's eyes remain as still as dead water; he continues to say nothing.
The other Troupe members also have no intention of answering.
Not going to respond…
Moro takes a deep breath, trying hard to think of an escape opportunity.
At this moment, Chrollo activates his Nen ability.
"The Extreme Essence of Thieves"
As Nen surges around him, a book with a red palm print appears in his right hand out
of thin air.
Flap flap flap…
Against the pouring rain, the book begins flipping its pages on its own.
When it finally stops on one page, Chrollo manifests a single-lens glasses connected
by golden chains in his left hand.
Upon seeing Chrollo materialize those glasses, Moro's eyes suddenly change; he
doesn't know whether to feel relieved or angry.
Those glasses are Saixin's manifested ability.
Now that this ability has been taken by Chrollo, it means Saixin is still alive.
However, given the Phantom Troupe's modus operandi—even if he is alive, his fate will
undoubtedly be tragic…
Chrollo holds up the single-lens glasses but does not put them on.
"No rush."
He speaks slowly, halting Shalnark from making any moves.
Originally, Chrollo intended to use this act of manifesting glasses to influence Moro's
mind and create an opportunity to capture him alive securely.
Strangely enough…
Moro shows no signs of surprise or confusion in response.
When a companion's ability is used by someone seeking trouble,
Even with unwavering determination, one would expect some semblance of human
confusion to surface.
Yet what Chrollo sees in Moro is not shock or surprise or confusion but rather…
Relief?
What could he possibly be relieved about?
The only possibility Chrollo can think of is that Moro realized upon seeing those
glasses that their owner was still alive.
Thus making such a judgment requires understanding Chrollo's specialized ability—
"The Extreme Essence of Thieves."
That becomes quite interesting.
"Moro… just as you said; we've never had any direct or indirect contact."
Chrollo affirms this conclusion with certainty while revealing some curiosity in his
eyes.
"But your reaction conveys information to me—you—understand my Nen ability."
It's not a question nor speculation.
It's definitive.
Hearing Chrollo's words causes surprise among Hisoka, Pakunoda, and Shalnark
alike.
"..."
Moro remains silent; internally he feels some surprise as well.
Just because of that brief change upon seeing Saixin's ability did Chrollo pick up on it
so confidently and conclude definitively?
This is Chrollo Lucilfer for you.
Moro suppresses the waves within himself while forcing himself not to look at
Pakunoda.
If there's still an opportunity for escape—it lies within…
Intelligence.
Moro can almost confirm that Pakunoda used her memory-searching ability on Saixin
to extract information about himself.
And this information contains one piece of misinformation:
In Saixin's perception—I am an enhancement type user.
But in reality—I am an emission type user.
The opportunity lies therein.
