Chapter 4: And I knew it!
*On behalf of Sydney*
The sun broke through the cracks in the curtains, but its light did not bring relief. Yesterday's nightmare was still hanging in the air like a thick fog, not allowing me to breathe deeply. The dream did not bring peace, only the successive images of the mask, scream and blood.
My body was ache, and my heart ached, as if it had been pierced with a knife.
I slowly sat down on the bed, trying to remember everything that happened yesterday. Everything was like in a fog. It's like a nightmare.
It all started as usual. We sat at my house, chatting about nothing, as always.
Then this guy, Eric, appeared. He was strange, some kind of alienated, but I tried to be polite. I don't know why, but something in his eyes scared me.
He said he was lost. That feels the danger. We didn't believe him. We laughed at him, and then... then this maniac appeared.
Randy. Poor Randy. I still couldn't believe he was dead. His scream was still ringing in my ears. His laughter, his jokes - all this disappeared forever.
I got out of bed, feeling tired and devastated. I looked in the mirror and saw my pale reflection. My eyes were red with tears, and my face sashed. I wasn't the same Sidney who laughed and chatted with friends yesterday. I was a shadow of myself in the past.
Going down, I found that Billy and Tatum were no longer sleeping. They were sitting at the kitchen table, silently looking at one point. Apparently, yesterday's nightmare didn't let them go.
Sidney said Billy, noticing me. He got up and approached me, hugging me by the shoulders. - How are you?
I... I don't know - I replied, trying to hold back my tears. - It still seems to me that it's just a dream...
I know - Billy said, squeezing me tighter. - I think so too. But it's all real.
We must not give up," Tatum said, her voice being quiet and serious. We have to find this maniac. We shouldn't let him kill anyone else!
I looked at her. In her eyes, despite her fear, there was a light of determination.
I realized that she was right. We couldn't just sit and wait for the maniac to strike the next blow. We had to fight.
What are we going to do? - I asked. - How are we going to find him?
I don't know," Billy replied. But we have to start with something. Maybe we should go to the police? Or shall we turn to someone for help?
Yes," Tatum nodded. This is probably the most reasonable decision. But I don't think they will believe us. They can think that we're just rave.
What about this guy, Eric? - I asked, remembering him. Where did he go? And why did he say that someone was watching us?
Who knows him, Billy replied, waving it off. Maybe he's a maniac? Maybe he's just a psychopath who scared us and then ran away?
I don't think so," Tatum said, shaking her head. He was strange, of course, but I don't believe he could create such a thing. He looked scared, just like us.
I was silent, thinking about Tatum's words. Something in her words seemed right to me. I felt that Eric, no matter how strange it sounded, was not to blame. He just knew something. And maybe if we had believed him, Randy could be alive now.
Maybe we should find him? - I asked. Maybe he knows something? Maybe he saw a maniac?
Billy and Tatum looked at each other. They didn't seem to be sure it was a good idea, but they agreed.
We understood that we couldn't wait any longer. We have to act. We had to find answers. And we had to take revenge.
Having decided not to waste a minute, we left the house, ready to come face to face with the unknown.
The school, usually filled with noise and life, seemed gloomy and gloomy today. The corridors were quiet, and there was tension in the air. The students talked in a whisper, throwing curious glances at us. Everyone knew about yesterday's murder.
Everyone was afraid.
Billy, Tatum and I were walking along the corridor, trying not to pay attention to others. My heart was pounding in my chest, and an ice lump settled in my stomach. I didn't want to be here. I wanted to wake up and find that it was all just a nightmare. But, unfortunately, it was a reality.
We passed by the director's office, and I saw that people had already gathered there.
Policemen. And among them, I recognized him. Sheriff Burke. He was a tall, strong man with a stern look and piercing eyes that seemed to penetrate through you.
We stopped at the door of the office, not daring to enter. I felt Billy take my hand. I looked at him and saw in his eyes the same fear that I felt.
We need to talk to them," Tatum said, trying to seem confident. We have to tell them everything we know.
We nodded and, having gathered courage, entered the office. Sheriff Burke immediately paid attention to us. His eyes narrowed, and he looked at us with an appreciative look.
You must be Randy's friends," he said, his voice was quiet, but there was a hardness in it.
We nodded, and Sheriff Burke gestured to invite us to sit down. He was sitting at a large table, and two other policemen were standing next to him.
I'm Sheriff Burke, he said. I need to ask you a few questions about yesterday's incident. Try to tell me everything you've seen and everything you know.
I nodded and looked at Billy and Tatum. We looked at each other. I understood that we needed to be extremely careful. We couldn't talk about a maniac in a mask, and about the fact that some guy said that we were being watched. They will consider us crazy.
Billy was the first to speak, talking about how we were going home, when suddenly a killer appeared and attacked Randy.
Tatum added a few details, describing how everything happened quickly. They tried to speak calmly and confidently, but I could see that fear was boiling inside them.
It's my turn. I told you, trying not to miss any details, but at the same time hiding the whole truth. I wasn't talking about Eric. I just said that there were three of us when we were attacked. I saw that the sheriff was looking at me very carefully.
Did you say you didn't see the killer's face? - asked Sheriff Burke, his voice was persistent.
No, I answered, looking him straight in the eye. Everything happened very quickly. I only saw that he was wearing black clothes.
What about the motive? - the sheriff asked. Did Randy have enemies? Who could wish him death?
We don't know," I answered. He was a good person. No one had any reason to kill him.
Yes, - the sheriff stretched out. Well, okay. I got it. If you remember anything else, let us know right away. We will do everything possible to find this person
We nodded and got up. We understood that we were not taken seriously. That they think we're just scared and confused the details.
Thank you, I said before leaving the office.
As soon as we were in the corridor, we all breathed a sigh of relief.
They didn't believe us," Billy said. They think it was an ordinary killer, not a maniac.
Probably, that's how it is - Tatum added. But we know the truth. And we need to do something. We can't just sit and wait for this maniac to attack again.
We looked at each other, and the light of determination lit up again in our eyes. We weren't alone. We were together. And we won't let this maniac win.
We had to survive. For my own sake. For Randy's sake. For the sake of all those who can still become his victims. And we had to figure out who this killer was, who was able to deceive us all so easily.
*On behalf of Mark*
I was sitting on a cold bench in the park, hugging my knees. The cold wind, piercing to the bones, did not want to let go.
The city seemed to be dead, immersed in a gray veil. Everyone around me was screaming about my loss, about the horror I experienced. My thoughts were rushing like frightened birds.
How I want to go home, not be here.
I scrolled yesterday in my head again and again. Scream, blood, Randy, and my useless attempts to warn them.
My failure. My failure. They all laughed at me. They didn't believe a single word.
I'd rather stay at home, watch movies, read books, bury myself in my reality. This... this creature made me forget everything I had before.
My hands were covered with dirt and cold sweat. Cold sweat flowed down my temples. I was terribly cold.
But I couldn't give up. I had to find him. Killer. I had to restore justice. I had to... for what?
The system appeared again before my eyes, cold and emotionless.
Task: "To help the main characters solve the identity of a maniac in a mask" is not active.
Task: "Save Sidney Prescott" is not active
Task: "Find a maniac before the next attack" is not active
New task: Follow Tatum (250 points)
Follow Tatum? - I muttered, feeling growing anger. As if she can help. She's just another teenager!
There was a rage inside me. I failed the task for 500 points, and she offers me to follow Tatum. Just watch while they escape from the problem, doing nothing to stop the killer.
With a heavy sigh, I got up from the bench.
I had to act. The first thing I had to do was find that girl and follow her.
Exactly follow. Don't act. Just watching.
I went to school. Where it all began. Where all the worst things happened.
At first, I watched Tatum. I followed her around the school, on the streets. She was like an ordinary teenager, no different from the others.
She went to class, talked to friends, went to lunch, laughed. There was nothing in it that pointed to a maniac.
I realized that I was wrong when choosing to spy on Tatum. Now I should have focused on Billy.
Surveillance of Billy turned out to be more difficult than I expected. He wasn't as open and predictable as Tatum.
He kept himself alone, avoided companies, was always alone. His behavior worried me, but he could not be called suspicious.
I watched him. He went to the gym, then to the library, and then went to a quiet corner of the park. He didn't do anything criminal. Nothing special.
I began to understand that there was something... different about it all. Not what I expected. There was no clear goal. No motives.
But I couldn't give up. I was here for a reason.
At one point, Billy headed for the building.
It was an old, abandoned part of the school. I felt that it could be a place where the maniac was hiding.
I went around the corner, watching Billy. What was he doing there? I had to find the answer. And then I saw something I didn't expect.
A small, sharp razor flashed in his hand.
Knife.
My heart was pounding. The system flashed before my eyes again.
New task: Track down and identify Billy.
I had no more choice. I had to act.
The heart was pounding like a bird in a cage. I froze, watching Billy, who hid behind the door of the abandoned part of the school.
A knife flashed in his hand, and I felt a chill running down my back. The system confirmed my suspicions. Billy was the one I was looking for.
I understood that I had to act carefully. Billy was obviously up to something, and I didn't want to attract his attention. He was much stronger and bigger than me, and I knew that I had no chance in an open clash.
Carefully, trying not to make noise, I followed him. The old boards under my feet creaked, and I froze every time there was a loud crackle. I knew Billy could hear me, and in this case I wouldn't get away with a simple conversation.
I walked along the corridor full of dust and cobwebs, trying not to lose sight of it. Billy walked confidently, without looking back. Apparently, he thought he was alone in this abandoned place.
Suddenly, Billy stopped. I clung to the wall, trying to merging with the shadows. I saw him take a mask out of his pocket. That mask. White, with black slits for the eyes.
The killer's mask.
I felt everything getting cold inside me. My suspicions were confirmed. Billy was a maniac. Billy was a murderer. My hands were shaking. I wanted to throw myself at it, but I knew it was crazy.
Billy put on a mask, and then something changed in him. It's like he's become a different person. More cruel, more ruthless.
He turned towards me, and I froze. He seemed to feel my presence. His head twitched, his eyes became more attaching.
He sees me.
I got up and ran as soon as my legs allowed. I couldn't let him catch me. I had to leave here.
I heard footsteps behind me. Billy was running after me. I rushed without looking back, trying to leave this place as soon as possible. My lungs were burning, my legs were shaking, but I kept running.
I found some kind of emergency exit and jumped out into the street. I didn't stop until I was far from the school.
I felt terrible. I didn't have the strength, I was suffocating, but I was alive. I was able to escape.
I stopped, leaning against the wall of the building. The system appeared before my eyes again.
The task "Track down and identify Billy" is completed! Reward: 300 points
Current task: "Save Sidney Prescott"
I was able to complete one of the tasks, and it gave me a little strength. But I was worried about Billy.
Now, he knows what I know, he will be even more cruel. He won't leave me alone.
And of course, he won't leave Sydney alone.
I had to act. I couldn't delay any longer. I had to figure out how to stop him.
I had to save Sidney.
And I knew that I still had a lot to do. The game has just started.
