Chapter 3: The Attack
Raiden knew that he was not a good shot. This is why the title of the good shot in their crew was reserved for a man named Horis, who was their sniper. But he had confidence about the fact that under no circumstance he would miss a shot when firing at point-blank range. Even if he was panicking, he would not miss such a shot.
But now there he was lying on the floor, in front of him stood an 8-foot-tall man, seemingly unharmed by his shot.
What the hell was that? The man asked, but he could not answer. Is that some sort of weapon?
It is then that Raiden heard the hurried steps making their way down. And sure enough most of his crew were beside him, which Jackie in front of everyone, "What the fuck happen?" he asked.
Raiden was surprised to see that everyone was looking at him, and seemingly not focusing on the elephant in the room. "Well, can anyone tell who the fuck is this, and what is he doing down here?"
They cannot see or hear me boy, Jacob said.
"That is just bullshit," Raiden mumbled.
But still, everyone was staring all around the room, even Jackie. "Ah… Captain, am I missing something here?" one of them asked.
Raiden then stood up, and Jackie questioned, "Did you have too much to drink or did you have a bad dream?"
He could not believe his ears. But then a smirk formed on his face, "This is a joke right?" There was no way that Raiden believed none of them could see the 8-foot-tall man standing in front of them.
It is then Jacob strolled towards his crew members, and Raiden saw that the man passed through them as if he was an apparition. No one even seemed to have noticed or had any sort of reaction to when it happened.
See, told you. Only you can hear and see me. Now quickly, tell these guys you had a bad dream or something, or they might think you are a little loose on the head. You dont wanna lose your head now, do you?
What is this guy talking about, why would I lose my head? He thought.
People in this era dont kill their children if they are loose on the head.
"So what is it?" Jackie asked.
Raiden didnt know what was happening here, but the stranger was right. So he shook his head, and confessed, "Maybe I was dreaming,"
"Yeah," Jackie said awkwardly, then directly took the gun from his hand, "Maybe I would hold on to this till we reached home,"
Most of the crewmates gave him an awkward smile, while some gave him a sympathetic look as well. Slowly they all went upstairs leaving him and the apparition behind. It is only after they were gone, did Raiden turned towards him, "So you are a fucking ghost?"
Not a fucking ghost. Just a ghost. Also, you dont have to talk to me out loud, I can hear your thoughts.
"So you are haunting me because we stole that cylinder?" Raiden asked. Although he did not practice any religion, he had heard mumbo jumbo that the Lord Itab followers believed in. Many times he had heard that sometimes a person could have ended up getting haunted just because they stole something from an ancient tomb.
I am not a ghost, Jacob then down on the floor, I mean technically I am a ghost. But I am no ordinary ghost. I am the Hero of the previous generation. And I am here to accompany you for the rest of your journey.
"What do you mean by my journey?"
With a smirk on his face, Jacob replied, You.. my friend.. You are the Hero of this generation.
Raiden couldnt help but burst out laughing his ass off. "Hero.." He mumbled as he smacked his thigh, this was the funniest thing that he had ever heard.
The title of the Hero is not presented to anyone. The title is given by the messenger of Lord Itab to the person in concern. Now he could have really bought the things the ghost before him was saying if he was drunk. Currently, the alcohol in his system had not affected his thinking capacity, and he was not buying the shit.
Also, there was the fact that Raiden knew himself pretty well. He was a well-spoken merc, nothing more, nothing less. The only god that he truly believes in is money, nothing could take that away from him…
Raiden when stopped laughing, turned towards the man, "Thanks for letting me know man. I truly appreciate it. Now, if you would excuse me, I need to get myself baptized or blessed so that you can stop haunting me,"
With that, he turned to go to the upper deck, when the man called out, Feel whatever you want. Remember Raiden, I am always with you, till your eventual death or quest completion… If you ever need me, then I am just a call away. And with that, the man vanished from the deck completely…
When Raiden got to the upper deck, he saw that most of his men were asleep. There was Jackie on the helm, while Boris was above the sail, looking out for them.
"Did someone scare you downstairs?" Jackie asked.
He shook his head and came to the helm as well. "How far away are we?"
"My guess is we would be able to see the coat of UCA any minute now,"
"Good," Raiden mumbled, "Good…" He was about to ask Jackie about his problem when they both heard something touch their boat from the starboard. Curious Raiden made his way to the starboard, to realize a small two-person boat, tied to their ship.
"Jackie," Raiden said, "Where did the boat come from?"
Jackie looked at him with confusion on his face, "What do you mean boat? Are we dragging something,"
He was about to ask Boris whether he had seen something peculiar around the ship when something fell from up the sail. It took only a few seconds for both Raiden and Jackie to see the head of Boris lying on the deck, illuminated by moonlight.
"INTRUDER!" they both yelled simultaneously.
All the men who were all asleep on the upper deck woke up, with their guns cocked. It is then something heavy fell from the sails again, on the other side of the room. They all saw a person standing, covered in darkness. The person's ominous purple draconic staring at them.
"AH!" Jackie yelled and shot the gun, the next thing Raiden heard sound of a sword being unsheathed.
The person stood before them unharmed, in his hands a black sword that felt very familiar. On cue he heard, Is that.. My..
Jacob's voice was cut in half when everyone on the ship charged towards the man. Some shots were fired, and some yells were heard, but within seconds Raiden found himself staring at the moon, clutching the big cut on his torso…
