Happry Potter: The New Player

Chapter 36: Chaos at Hogwarts

The weather was gloomy, turning the dark castle particularly eerie.

Evan, Hermione, and Harry hurried towards the Gryffindor common rooms. They were disturbed by what had just occurred.

"I can't believe it, Malfoy is the one trying to kill us!" Harry said, looking pale.

"I can't fathom it, why would Malfoy want to kill us?"

Evan shook his head as he observed Harry's expression and said, "Even if he wanted to, he wouldn't be foolish enough to send a house-elf to do it."

"So, Dobby...?"

"I don't think he was lying, he must have overheard his master talk about opening the Chamber of Secrets and came to try to save you, Harry."

"Yes, save me, by preventing me from boarding the train, breaking my arm, and controlling over eighty chairs and tables to attack us," Harry sighed, "If he keeps trying to save me this way, I might end up dead."

"Don't blame him so much, house-elves are creatures of immense servitude. They can't disobey their masters' orders, they can't reveal their masters' secrets, and if they do, they have to endure severe punishments."

"Servitude!" Hermione growled, "It's astonishing that slavery still exists in our country in this day and age!"

"I don't care about that," Harry said, "I wish he had told us who opened the Chamber of Secrets, or what lies within it. How is it possible that no one has noticed a monster roaming the school?"

"Perhaps it can turn invisible."

Hermione pondered for a moment and said, "Or maybe it can disguise itself as another object."

"Regardless, this has something to do with Malfoy," Evan interjected quickly, "Lucius Malfoy is plotting something, but..."

His words couldn't continue, as the three turned a corner and witnessed a horrific scene.

Evan felt his heart sink and his face pale.

A Ravenclaw girl lay on the ground, cold and stiff, with a terrified look on her face, her eyes staring at the ceiling. She wasn't alone, there was another figure beside her, a sight Evan had never seen before.

It was Moaning Myrtle, no longer milky white and transparent, she was shrouded in dark smoke, lying six inches above the ground, with the same expression as the Ravenclaw girl.

"Haven't we seen this Ravenclaw girl before? What was her name?"

Harry gasped as he looked around the hallway, seeing spiders scurrying away quickly.

"Penelope Clearwater, she's a Ravenclaw student," Hermione answered sadly.

"Another attack, we should find someone to help."

Before they could react, they heard a door slam open, it was Peeves.

"Ah, it's you three!"

Peeves jumped around laughing, "What are you up to, why skulking about?"

He somersaulted but abruptly stopped upon noticing what lay on the floor.

He quickly straightened up, took a deep breath, before Evan could stop him, he shouted at the top of his lungs. "They've done it again! Not even ghosts are spared! Run for your lives!"

The whole castle instantly buzzed with activity, people quickly flocked to where they were.

In the ensuing minutes, the scene was incredibly chaotic, Penelope was in danger of being trampled. The crowd swarmed around Moaning Myrtle's body, pushing Harry, Evan, and Hermione against the wall.

Within moments, the teachers arrived and restored order.

Professor McGonagall

Evan heard Justin whisper that Harry was the heir as he left.

This remark seemed to be heard by Peeves, who suddenly grinned widely.

As the professors observed Penelope and Myrtle, Peeves sang, "Oh, Potter, oh, Potter, you're a pain, you ruin lives and think it's a game."

"Cease your mischief, Peeves!" roared Professor McGonagall, Peeves stuck out his tongue and hurried away.

Professor Flitwick, along with several other students, took Penelope to the school infirmary. They were unsure what to do with Moaning Myrtle.

Eventually, Professor McGonagall transfigured a large fan and handed it to Ron, who had just arrived, instructing him to fan Moaning Myrtle up the stairs. Ron looked at Evan and the others with a worried expression before leaving.

"Come with me, Mason, Potter, and Granger," said Professor McGonagall as she led them towards a gigantic statue of a griffin.

McGonagall uttered the words "Sherbet Lemon."

As soon as her words ended, the statue moved aside, revealing a staircase ascending slowly.

Evan and the other two followed Professor McGonagall and heard a loud noise as the entrance closed behind them. The stairs kept rising higher and higher, making Evan feel a bit dizzy. Then he saw a double oak door with a bronze knocker shaped like a griffin.

Evan knew where he was; it was the entrance to Dumbledore's office.

He had been secretly gazing at it for four weeks. He couldn't help but be awed by its beauty. Harry and Hermione were concerned about their imminent fate.

It was too coincidental that the three of them were there during the first and second attacks. If they claimed they had nothing to do with the Chamber of Secrets, no one would believe them.

Dumbledore's office was quite intriguing, a very spacious and beautiful round room with curious background noises. The narrow tables were filled with silver devices.

The walls were covered with portraits of former headmasters, softly snoring in their respective frames. On a shelf sat a tattered and wrinkled Sorting Hat.

On a perch behind the door sat a peculiar-looking bird with red and gold feathers.

It must be Fawkes the Phoenix, thought Evan curiously.

After observing it closely, Dumbledore emerged.

"Albus, it was Miss Clearwater and Moaning Myrtle..." said Professor McGonagall anxiously.

"I know, Minerva," replied Dumbledore calmly, "The Chamber of Secrets has been opened again."

"But Albus, you must know... Who is it?" she asked.

"The question is not who," said Dumbledore, "The question is, how..."

Evan was slightly startled; Dumbledore must have noticed something.

Then he saw the expression on Professor McGonagall's face and knew that, like himself, Harry, and Hermione, no one understood what Dumbledore meant.

Later, the anticipated investigation did not take place; Dumbledore only inquired about Fawkes the Phoenix and let them go.

Evan turned around, wondering if he had just imagined it or not, but he felt as if Dumbledore's eyes were on him.
